Can anyone not remember where they were the first time they heard Cliffs of Dover and thinking, “Who HELL is THAT? Oh my god!”?

It took me a long time to love The Extremist because I was so blown away by Surfing and they are so different. Summertime Song is just one of those songs that makes my heart sore!

Here’s hopin’ October comes quickly for you!

Yeah, come on all of you, big strong men,
Uncle Sam needs your help again.
He's got himself in a terrible jam
Way down yonder in Vietnam
So put down your books and pick up a gun,
We're gonna have a whole lotta fun.

And it's one, two, three,
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Vietnam;
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why,
Whoopee! we're all gonna die.

Well, come on generals, let's move fast;
Your big chance has come at last.
Gotta go out and get those reds —
The only good commie is the one who's dead
And you know that peace can only be won
When we've blown 'em all to kingdom come.

And it's one, two, three,
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Vietnam;
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why
Whoopee! we're all gonna die.

Huh!

Well, come on Wall Street, don't move slow,
Why man, this is war au-go-go.
There's plenty good money to be made
By supplying the Army with the tools of the trade,
Just hope and pray that if they drop the bomb,
They drop it on the Viet Cong.

And it's one, two, three,
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Vietnam.
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why
Whoopee! we're all gonna die.

Well, come on mothers throughout the land,
Pack your boys off to Vietnam.
Come on fathers, don't hesitate,
Send 'em off before it's too late.
Be the first one on your block
To have your boy come home in a box.

And it's one, two, three
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Vietnam.
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why,
Whoopee! we're all gonna die.

Romantics. Romantics... Romantics!!!
Guess my favorite group?

The Romatics!!!

Their newest Album is 61/49, released in october, 2003.... Awesome stuff--way better than their "80s power rock" fluff (i.e. Talking in Your Sleep, One in a Million)

I like all of their albums, but in particular their 1st one and 61/49 (their last one)

Best Song: What I like About You

I am also one who likes a lot of different music,
from classical to jazz and country, rock, rap and pop.

Some of the other bands/groups I like:

Billy Joel
Led Zepplin
Garth Brooks
Shania Twain
Indigo Swing
Brian Setzer Band
Pink
The Beatles (how can you NOT like the Beatles?!)
The Rolling Stones
Early David Bowie (Ziggy Stardust time-- not the stuff from the 80s and newer.)
Mozart
Beethoven
Chopin
The News Boys
Gershwin (especially "Rhapsody in Blue" and "An American in Paris" and "Summertime")
Ella Fitzgerald
Scott Joplin (played by Ithsak Perlman)
Matchbox 20
Enigma
Tangerine Dream
Laurie Anderson

And the list goes on and on and on.. .

Back in the early eighties I was. Not anymore really. But if I had to pick an all time fav, it would be that album. Hell Bent for Leather, the Ripper, Sinner, Diamonds and Rust, all live, and all great, for their time.

Hey Backslacker, I heard Judas Priest pretty much owned the OzzFest this summer and that was the main reason everyone came out.

About 6 months later Ringo had a hit with 'It Don't Come Easy'

which eclipses anything Elton ever did, imo.

The Wikipedia page notes that the album was released in '71, so it's only, like, 34 years ago or something when it came out. Although, as you note, it was recorded 35 years ago. But who am I to quibble?

"Empty Sky"
Anyone ever heard this Elton John album? It was originally released in 1969 in the UK. I believe it was released in the USA around 1989. Always though it was one of his best albums. I've got an original British copy that's in great condition, and been told its worth some $$$$.

downloaded this the other day

"Eat a Peach" (the Deluxe Edition) from the Allman Brothers. Contains several live versions from a show at the Fillmore East - including a live version of Mountain Jam and You Don't Love Me - (and many more).

Just might be the best recorded batch of music I've ever heard.

You Got That Right, Cackalacky !!
The Fillmore East show was '69 or '70 and WOW!!!

I believe that turned into an all-night jam.

Somehow I just KNEW you'd agree with me! Did you get to see them "back in the day"?

I got to see a 'tribute' band a couple weeks ago in Boulder and it was really good. They only played for about an hour though.

I saw The Allman Brothers Band in 1975 without Duane.

They were very hot and as tight as a bug's ass.
