While I was away
I arrived in Florida on Wednesday September 1, approx. early afternoon. It was a nice 97 degrees. Thought I was going to die in the heat.

Thursday, went to casino and lost money. Watched employees take off canopy outside in preperation for Frances. Watched the weather channel inside the casino on a HUGE screen TV to see the latest update on Frances’ arrival, which had not changed much.

Friday, most of Florida shuts down. No gas to be found. Freeways crowded. (I later found out it took a friend of my Mom’s 22 hours to get from Boca Raton to Tipton, Georgia.) Most things closed. Tried to go to beach but police were not nice about our attempt. I understood, and just looked at the intercoastal waters.

Saturday, things are a bit more active. One of my vacation plans included meeting the woman I had been talking to for three months. Frances was for sure on her way and I was convinced that we were not going to be able to meet. There was no way I could drive down to Miami in the weather and there was no gas even if I could have. I was pretty upset but there was nothing I could do.

I slumped on the floor in the living room to watch the latest radar of Frances. That biitch was slow. She was not going to come onto land while I was there, I just knew it. She stopped in the ocean like 3 times to reorganize. I began to believe that it just was not going to hit. It would die off out there or go north. Then the news went to Ft. Lauderdale beach where they said people were so bored from having been cooped up waiting that they were calling taxi’s to take them to find something to eat. Ah ha, I say to me...

140.00, one way, in a Lincoln Town Car, I was riding in 80 MPH winds down the turnpike, on my way to meet Maria. Life was good again.

Saturday night, Sunday, and part of Monday morning, I spent in Miami. The weather was not that bad down there.

Monday morning, I take the same car back to Boca Raton, the cost was the same, 140.00, and I got to see what I had missed. There were trees everywhere!! My Mom’s subdivision was thee only sub that did not lose power. They were very lucky. I spent Monday at South Beach where I swear I saw some things from the Bahamas lying around. Finally, parts of Florida were getting back to normal, at least down that way. They had cold Corona.

Monday night, I slept like a log due to the lack of sleep while in Miami.

Tuesday morning, I leave Florida. I had a full tank of gas that I managed to find on the A1A and headed North. It took 26 hours to get home here to Michigan. Know why? Cause we brought that biitch Frances back with us all the way to Cincinatti, Ohio, and the driving sucked.

While waiting for Frances, here are some t-shirt logos a friend of mine and I came up with. Because Frances was very slow in her arrival, that is where most of these come from.

1)I sat in a shelter for 4 days and all I got was a lousy breeze.

2)Which ways it gonna go...which ways it gonna go?

3)No gas. No plywood. No hurricane.

4)Picture of Florida on front of shirt with the saying “Frances can’t touch this!”

5)Hell, I could fart a better breeze than this!

6)I survived hurricane Frances. Who couldn’t?

7)I got this tan during Hurricane Frances.

and last but not least

8)There was a hurricane?

Now, I realize, and did see there was a lot of devestation. These sayings are not to make light of that or the loss of the seven lives. It was just a slowwwwwwwwww storm and even the weather reporters said it was an exhausting storm.

Did I have fun? You betchya! So much, I am moving to Florida within the year. Was it because of the hurricane...HAIL NO!!! It was because of this.....

This is NOT Frances!!!

I would move to the southeast area...preferably near the job I hope to find. I am not too keen on the area she lives in simply because I don't speak a lick of Spanish and her condo is very small. However, I think in time, I will end up like most men on this board, and just do as I am told.

The spanish thing isn't a big deal. You can learn it pretty quickly and have a lot of fun doing it especially when surrounded by native speakers.

Oh yeah, congratulations and don't worry about making light of the storm. That's what we all do down here anyway. If you can't laugh at it, all can you do is cry about it.

See you in Ocala next February?

Because of Frances a couple married for 50+ years finally had their first candlelight meal. (I think it was cold beans and warm beer!)
