Living the Suburban Lifestyle.....

“I grew up in a white poor trash family. We lived out in the sticks, as my dad hated neighbors and nosy town people (thanks dad for giving me a legacy of being distrustful!!)
As I wrote in my thread on cookie making...my whole life as a kid I wanted a 'normal' life..and I told myself I would give that to Ford as he got older....(Ok the first few years of his life don't count...but he always had a stable life, even if all we did was hike and travel.)
I love the house we live in...it is a small community outside of Bellevue and Seattle, near the foothills of the Cascade Mts. It is a town where I feel safe, where there are trails, parks and a lot of green.I live in city limits, I have neighbors, I have a real yard that is fenced and the landscaping makes me smile...I live in an actual private community.
The bus comes and picks up Ford for school. His school is a newer school-huge and modern for a small amount of children....

And then I wonder...am I ACTUALLY cheating Ford out of something by having him live in a 'normal' way? I actually wonder about this!
Last year he went to an inner city school, before we bought the house and moved. He was a minority...surrounded by kids from so many countries. He loved it. Of course his school was 1/4 the size, with 1 tiny playground and as old as dirt.
I wonder some days will he become a typical boring suburban kid? I don't even think there is a token kid of any other race at his school!!
I would hate to see him lose what makes him so unique.
But, god, I do not want him to grow up being white trash! Or having to live in a city, where crime was the norm.
Yet, somedays, I know I am a fraud...I will be driving and see a cabin or a farm and realize how I would love that lifestyle I had as a kid. Being white trash did have some freedoms-no one expected much and I could run free.
Just those quandrys I have....
And there is my ramble of the day.”

"normal" is what we as parents can give to our children by loving them and giving them a sense of belonging, security, adventure, & all of those other thhings that make up life.
