“I watched the CBS 60 minutes piece on the Human Growth Hormone this evening.

Is this news? Was it reported as news?”

“I'm on the west coast so I haven't seen it yet, but I've heard of a growth hormone given to children when it looks like they will stay extremely small.”

“HGH has been around for over 40 years. When my rich friend grew 12 inches in three years it was news. It was never reported, but we all saw it. Now it is news?

The social slant that 60 minutes puts on it makes it news? Forty years later?

Shameful.”

“This was a repeat. However, it is a discussion that we need to have as a society of people, IMHO.
The boy's mother, in this particular case, was 5' tall. Not very tall for a woman, and likely to have at least one short child. That's what happened. That's the way the cookie crumbles, if you ask me. I mean, look at One Inch Wang. I feel much sorrier for him.

However, the real report on 60 Minutes was about our president.”

Whew! I should not have been sweating the fake report.”

“Maybe HGH will replace the still practiced barbaric method of repetitive limb fracturing (which promotes growth) in youths who might grow up to be "shorter than average".”

“I didn't see the interview. I guess I can see the use in extreme circumstances. My wife is 5' and I'm 5'10". Both our kids hit at or under the 5th percentile on the growth charts. Our pediatrician isn't concerned and neither are we. At first he thought something was "wrong". He just looked at us, asked if we were small as kids, end of story.

I was very small as a kid and did have some self-confidence issues. My son is involved in sports at an earlier age than I was and we're going to get him taking some form of defensive martial arts when he's old enough. I figure that'll take care of it.

Being different is just part of life.

“I am 5'2", hubby is I think 5'10 or so. Both of my boys are short. They are not happy about being the shortest in class, but they do not get teased about it because they are likable kids, and I teached them how to react if someone would make fun of them. Beat the crap out of them...j/k Seriously now, they know how to react.

I teached them to become leaders, and they are leaders. Size doesn't matter!!

I would give a couple of my toes if I could be only 2 inches taller though. Cloth would fit so much better. ;)

“Sounds like the experts are now saying the document looks real. Funny how Bush won't bother to deny anything, he just sends people out to take potshots at the messengers. He says "I served honorably" but doesn't say what that means. Could it be he doesn't want to be caught in a lie?

Personally, I don't think it that important if he messed around instead of serving in the guard. It doesn't mean I' not entertained by the way he dances around it.”

“Last week 60 minutes did an expose with suspect documents and this week (tonight)does an expose that the documents were fake.

“The National Standard has an article about one of Rather’s other stories that went sour on him. He interviewed a bunch of Vietnam Vets who had done stuff like skin 50,000 VC alive and other stuff. Turned out they all lied and most of the guys had never even been in battle.

No 60 Minutes is a propaganda tool.”

Rather's statement was very nicely worded to place blame on the source. He does however need to acknowledge the fact that due dilligence was not done.”

"But we did use the documents. We made a mistake in judgment, and for that I am sorry. It was an error that was made, however, in good faith and in the spirit of trying to carry on a CBS News tradition of investigative reporting without fear or favoritism."

He basically said that Rather has done the near exact same thing Bush did with Iraq. He was using information that he felt to be accurate at the time, he went with it, it turned out to be wrong. If there’s more to it I’m all ears though.

“It looks like Dan Rather has been successful at burying the forged document scandal. History will show the three networks abused their power by ignoring the swift boat veterans, except in their efforts to discredit these heros.
