'05 AT Thru Hike

No go today. There is now snow and ice on the trail. My guess is tomorrow will be crappy too. It's supposed to rain down here tonight and it's hard telling what it will be doing on the mountain. I'll stick around long enough to see if it's safe and immediately head for home if it's not. I doubt if I'll come back just to climb Katahdin. Too much like kissing my sister for me (or worse, since I have only brothers). The only way I'd do it is by starting over in Georgia. At this point I kind of like having my own personal unfinished symphony. At one point on the trail I made a joke about climbing up Katahdin, approaching the sign, reaching out to touch it, pulling my hand away at the last moment and saying, "Naahhh, I don't think this through hiking is really for me."

Then again, maybe I really did spend all this time somewhere in the Virgin Islands and just create the whole deal...”

Give me a few years and we'll both go up to Cap Gaspe and hike the IAT back down to Katahdin. You can summit then at the end of another great hike. Of course, you might not summit then, either. You never know with that mountain.”

“Hi, no go this year. I gave up the ghost on 10/19. Katahdin remained closed due to ice and snow. I figured that late in the year it was foolish to just hang around and spend money I no longer have. I'll post more when I get a chance. I feel good about it. The adventure was just too great to define success by climbing one more mountain. See ya later.”
