good theory zac, i had a Suzuki Samauri that blew out the head and spun the rod bearings - when the crank went it actually knocked the rear head bolts right outta their seats - BLAM!

the machine shop guy i talked too said the suzuki engines were bad for doing that - all aluminum blocks just didn't hold up well at all with a little age on them.

I heard those Samuri engines had a life expectancy of only 50,000 miles. And that's what the FACTORY says.

Maybe they should start making them out of titanium. After all I think the whole reason for the aluminum was to make the engine lighter.

I miss the 4.3L V6 that was in my old truck. All the parts were the same as the 350s, so parts were easy to find and dirt cheep.

I have a Kia Sorrento
Kias are great. They can't offer a warranty like that without building a car that won't break down.

But my family are Ford people.

Well, I thought Toyota was supposed to be so great and bought one since my sister had 3 Camry's and my brother has a 1998 RAV4 all with no problems. Toyota had really slipped in quality. My brand new RAV4 at 2300 miles already needs a new catalytic converter and a new charcoal canister in the emissions system and it's an expensive repair. It's covered under warranty, however. It had more rattles and noises than my 1988 Astro Van did. They claimed they fixed the rattles today, but we'll see. I'm disappointed with this RAV4 and think it's a piece of junk. Toyota is overpriced hype in my book and there's so much cheese on this vehicle and it just isn't worth it. I was going hoping to keep it long term, but now I look forward to the day I get rid of it. What to try next? I don't know, but Toyota doesn't deserve my business and this is my first and last Toyota.

wow. I had an older (like an 82 or so) Yota p/u that was a HORSE and then later had a 97 Corolla that i loved. But I didn't keep it long. Maybe its just the Rav4 model that got all cheesy.

OK, this is really getting ridiculous now. I finally found the source of the squeaking noise that the dealer claimed was normal intake noise. It's not intake noise, but the driver side brake caliper is digging into the hub part of the rotor and causing the squeak. The dealer added a felt kit to fix the dashboard rattle that was the cowl banging on the windshield and well it's back although not as bad. The visor clips are loose and will eventually fall off unless tightened. They are not just screwed in and it looks like the inner roof has to be removed to get at the fixture. Now the dealer can't take the car in until next week since they are so busy. Since they only repair Toyota they must be busy fixing all the junk Toyota defects that people bring back in the shop. I have notified the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration to register a complaint about the defective emissions system when I heard I'm not the only one with a defective catalytic converter and charcoal canister. Toyota customer service heard from me too, but who's know if they care. Toyota sucks!

Okay, I gotta jump on this band wagon....definately Chevy/GMC. I've had both a Chevy or GMC product, as well a Ford. I've had the best luck with GMC products, gotta miss those Dodge Dart/Aspen, you know the old slant-6 engine, couldn't kill em. They might have rusted in it's spot, but the thing would always start in the dead of winter when everyone else's wouldn't.

Then you've got the old cheap affordable Chevy Chevette, had both a standard and automatic. The standard was definately better. When the automatic went, it blew oil all over one side of the car and I still got some value on a trade-in for a Buick Skyhawk, thought the guy was crazy, but what the hey, I wasn't gonna tell him no.

Now, Ford's they're okay, but I had a '74 Ford LTD, sweet car,(bought it in '79) but it was always braking down and was a gas hog, back when we thought gas prices were getting out of control(what did we know then?) After I sold that car is when I started going GMC.

Keep Buying American!
It might just save someone's job! I have always bought American made vehicles. I know with the transplants it is hard to make that decision, but when you loose your job remember to "eat your import". Now I will get off my soapbox and just say Chevy or GM products is the way to go. Esp. since I work for them!

most "foreign" cars are built in US plants by US workers.

some of the components may be made overseas, but a lot of the raw materials are also produced here. There aren't many true "foreign" cars any more.

If you look at the VIN number of your car, and the first character is a 1, the car was made in the US. Likewise, 2 stands for Canada, and 3 stands for Mexico, and I forget the rest -- I think cars made in Japan actually have a J as the first character...

As far as customer service woes with dealers, I hear your pain. Volkswagen's customer service is pretty lousy too, and apparently all disputes are between you and the dealer only, as corporate refuses to get involved in anyway. Fortunately I haven't had any real trouble with my Jetta so far. Still, doesn't make Volkswagen too appealing when it comes time to get another car...

When I called Toyota customer service they started a case file on my vehicle to keep a record of the defects. The lemon law states that you must have the same problem 3 times that wasn't fixed or 30 days in the shop within the first year. I think muliple problems should count too since they are just as annoying. The dealership so far has been cooperative and other than the misdiagonsis of the squeaking noise my beef is not with them since they didn't make the car. The other negative thing about the dealership is the wait time in getting the car repaired. Toyota really needs to clean up their act since I'm reading about other models and defects that you would expect from maybe Kia, but not for what you pay to buy a Toyota. With quality like this it won't be long before the buying public sees through all the hype about Toyota's claim of "Legendary Reliability" What a joke.

They should structure their points after CART where this years champ finished the season with a mere 369 points. The way they adjust the points for the top 10 in "the chase" is also a crock. They think it makes for a more exciting finale to the season but if they didn't hand out an ungodly # of points it would be interesting the entire season.

I got a Ford Ranger. It's an OK ride but I think I'll get a Toyota again for my next truck. I'm not dead set on any type of vehicle. I have owned a couple of Chevy's in my life. One was a complete nightmare. The other was OK.
I was thinking about getting a Dodge next but I hear they can be expensive to repair if they go to the shop.

Sometimes I miss my GMC Sierra. It had a 4.3L V-6. It almost never broke down and I could do a tune up minus the timing chain and water pump for under $50. The only reason I got ride of it was because I wanted something that got better than 20 miles per gallon.

Do you need a V8?

I've been extremely happy with my Nissan,,if I was to get another pickup I would probably go with Nissan again. There has been only a hand full of times where I wished I had a V8 or a full size bed.
