Nyack, from what I understand is a suburban town near Harriman State Park, about 1/2 an hour upriver from New York City.

IMHO, Rockland and Westchester Counties still count as Downstate New York. You probably want to go farther north...

Elmwood Ave in Buffalo. Every house is either across the street or next to a bar. Not that I have ever been in all any of them.

Artex:

I think that's right...Walsh's was right across from the Old Village Inn and the Helen Hayes Theater, next to a mexican resturant and a Japanese resturant right on Main.

I spent too many nights there when i lived in Nyack. I was on Gail Dr...which was up the hill from town. Nyack was/is a great place...though San Fran and Switzerland have been nicer so far...

pepsi...Ted's Hot Sauce, now you are making me jealous...there are only a few things i have been craving since I got over to Europe, now that is one of them...

Oh, and in south buffalo, the bar to house ratio is almost higher that on Elmwood!

What do you want to know about Albany and the Capital Region?

If there are any TT'ers there. How miserable is it in the winter? What is the job market like? Average cost of rent? Car insurance rates? etc..

I think Sacco and myself are the only TTers in the area.

I don't think the winters are too bad. The coldest month is Jan. with average high of 31 and low 13. Average snowfall is 52" per year.

I currently pay about $90 a month for car insurance as a male in my mid 20's.

$90 a month? Dang that's cheap!

What is rent like? Do people even rent?

Are you going to school there by chance?

Rent is a lot less than NYC. But so are average salaries. When I was in college about 2 years ago, I lived in Troy, which is about 5 miles north of Albany. My rent was $650 a month for a 3 bedroom. But rent prices here really depend on locations. I’ve seen one place that had condo apartments that were $1million a year, but this we very extreme.

Was that $650 each person? Or was that $650 for a three bederoom apartment all to yourself?

You still out there? "Home of the Hits" still there? I remember Elmwood and the Allentown area with fondness.

Keep in mind that you won't get paid nearly what you make in NYC, so it all evens out.

Mmmm... Dinosaur BBQ
There's a lot more to Syracuse than just 190" of snow.

Dinosaur BBQ - The biggest congregation of bikers and lawyers outside a court room. Saucy BBQ served up by even saucier waitresses.

God, I love that place. Good thing I live close.
