Nova Scotia

“Wondered if anyone has been to Nova Scotia. We are heading there for a week next Wednesday. Will be staying with my pen pal of 20 years whom I have never met. We'd like to do some hiking and just looking for some suggestions.”

“I've never been, but several of the people I work with own houses there. They've said great things about the area, and one says the Cabot trail is great. It's located on the northeast part of Nova Scotia, I think.

“It depends on what part of Nova Scotia yer going to. The state parks are great... there is Keijimkujik (spelling?) in the south, with great hiking and canoeing and a more spectacular state park in the North (on Cape Breton Island).

Have fun, I love Nova Scotia and the Acadians. I worked their one summer.

Also, the tides on the Bay of Fundy are awesome.”

“Cape Breton Highlands National Park for hiking. Fantastic scenery. There's also ferrys that go to PEI and Newfoundland.

As Pedxing mentioned, The Bay Of Fundy is a must see. I believe the tides are the biggest in the world.

“I"ve been to Nova Scotia a couple of times, but didn't do any hiking. First time was end of December and very cold and snowy. Drove around shooting photographs. Second time was early July 2004. I was actually headed to Newfoundland and spent a couple of days looking around at the things that I'd seen during my winter trip. The Cape Breton Highlands National Park is very beautiful with many nice trails that I will one day spend some time on. You'll find Keijimkujik (sp) in the south central area of Nova Scotia. Along the coast, the Lighthouses and little fishing villages are wonderful. Peggy's Cove (south of Halifax) is a nice place if you can handle bus loads of tourists. The Novites(?) Nova Scotians(?) are very friendly people.”

“Born there....but left at age 2, so I don't remember anything about N.S. Went back once, 20 years ago to visit for 4 days. Wasn't into hiking then...so we were only in Halifax.”

“There's a place near the Minas Basin (spelling?) where you can find garnet and jade on the beach after the tide goes out!”

that's a good idea. the kids like that sort of thing-they had a blast in Bancroft last year digging up garnet, rose quartz, and sodalite.”

“Thank you so much for your input. We will be staying down near Yarmouth. Her family owns a seafood exporting company...so we will NOT have a shortage of seafood...my favorite. It was a last minute trip so I wasn't able to research the places to hike. Once again, I appreciate your help.”
