Dead at 55 “Rocker Johnny Ramone is the third member of the band to have passed away. He was 55. He was a little different in my eyes than just another celebrity. Back in my radio days, I had the good fortune to spend 1/2 hour in a motel room at Busch Gardens in Tampa (1979) with Johnny and Joey Ramone. I had still been a bit green in the radio biz, as most of my announcing positions were on public radio and I hadn't yet graduated to local commercial success yet. I was doing a New Wave show on a local listener supported radio station at the time and landed interview time with the two of them. I went with two other female members of the radio staff and spent a memorable 30 minutes with them on tape. They could have easily torn us up professionally, but treated us real well instead. Two nice guys. RIP, Johnny!!!!” 8:40:21 AM 9/16/04 “Yeah I just heard. That sucks. I loved the Ramones” 8:42:17 AM 9/16/04 “RIP J!” 8:43:16 AM 9/16/04 “Go, Johnny, go!” 8:43:33 AM 9/16/04 “Wow. Did you get to partie with groupies?” 8:44:24 AM 9/16/04 “No, Bear. * *(How did i know he was going to ask this question?) lol” 8:47:58 AM 9/16/04 “Your just saying that because mapes is listening. ;) Rule: When asked by gf how many women have you slept with, the answer is: Number they can prove +1” 8:50:09 AM 9/16/04 Bearmagnet, you impress me “You've got it all down to a science, lol.” 9:10:44 AM 9/16/04 “BM, I was one of trees groupie!” 9:14:15 AM 9/16/04 “Not in those days, you weren't!” 9:16:09 AM 9/16/04 “Its all learned from the massive amounts of mistakes I've made, SE! Mapes - one of them? there was a groupie grope fest? tree- Shhhhhhhhhh! she can't prove anything!” 9:18:15 AM 9/16/04 “your right, I was only 14” 9:18:31 AM 9/16/04 “So the band will not be getting back together at this point? Bummer :( First Joey, then Johnny. Their poor momma. At least they're jammin' in that big rock and roll band in the sky. Tree definately has a DJ voice!” 9:18:54 AM 9/16/04 “I agree bob, I feel in love with his voice then the man” 9:21:23 AM 9/16/04 “14? Dirty old man!” 9:21:25 AM 9/16/04 “Tell me more...” 9:23:33 AM 9/16/04 “And now there's one?! I'm so glad I got to see them when I had the chance (L'amour in Brooklyn). That's pretty cool you got to meet them Tree. Ever see them perform on the Uncle Floyd Show?” 9:33:26 AM 9/16/04 Tree Voice ? “Was Johnny in "Rock And Roll High School"? They were good to you Tree 'cause dey is New Yawkuhs, too. was” 9:33:37 AM 9/16/04 “They always seemed so apethetic, so... punk. Did those guys ever crack a smile?” 9:35:40 AM 9/16/04 Blitzkrieg Bop.... “...sorry to see Johnny go...brings back vivid memories of some nasty times at CBGB's....” 9:38:49 AM 9/16/04 “It was an act, Dodo......Bobo >8^] I saw those guys at a bar in Boston in '76. "one, two, three, four......." Joey, "No applause, please. Just throw drugs."” 9:39:49 AM 9/16/04 Used to go to... “CBGB's to see them and the Clash, B-52's and a host of other crazed lunatics.” 9:40:43 AM 9/16/04 “I have a signed 'Rock and Roll High School' original movie poster that they gave me. The shows were so much fun. I remember airing one of their NY performances on one of my shows and laughing about the fact that the show was one hour and fifteen minutes and they played 35 songs!” 9:43:44 AM 9/16/04 “V, I never saw them on Uncle Floyd. That was a pretty cool show though!” 9:44:20 AM 9/16/04 “I remember trying to see them at an odd venue - the Philadelphia Zoo. They performed with the B-52's but we got there late and the last scalper wanted more than we were willing to pay. We snuck around back and climbed the fence - I snagged my jeans and hung upside down until they ripped - perfect for a Ramones show. We climed through the ladies room and ended up in an animal pen - we didn't hang around to find out what kind. We almost made it to the stage area when security caught us and sent us outside. They said we did pretty well and if we tried again, we might make it.” 9:46:25 AM 9/16/04 “Pretty funny, V! And yes, that is a rather odd venue...” 9:47:35 AM 9/16/04 “Great story, Violin” 9:51:23 AM 9/16/04 “And peeps say Violin doesn't go hiking!!! Hilarious! You hiked right into the lion's cage from the women's bathroom?!?” 9:52:52 AM 9/16/04 “We went in through the ladies room door and climbed out the window to avoid a well lit area. Whatever it was was real musky smelling. Like I said, we didn't stick around.” 10:10:30 AM 9/16/04 “Bummer. I've seen them once. They get up on stage blasted through about 8 songs and stopped midway through another. They all stood up and walked to the edge of the stage and pointed out some guy in the crowd. "You live in Florida, it's July and you are wearing a leather jacket. Rock on! Come up here and help me sing the next one!" Gabba gabba hey! Too dang funny.” 10:38:19 AM 9/16/04 “Reminds me of one other story concerning my time with them. When we went into the Agora Ballroom in Tampa earlier in the day to iron out some details for the interview, they were in the middle of their soundcheck. When we entered, they stopped and apparently we pissed off Marky, because he stoped playing, blurted out some obscenities and kicked over his drums and stormed off the stage. Made us a little uncomfortable, to say the least. We took care of biz and got out before we pissed any of the others off...” 10:48:58 AM 9/16/04 Ramones were the sh1t “To bad” 10:52:23 AM 9/16/04 “Tree definately has a DJ voice!" Capn Bobo 09:18:54 AM 09/16/04 ignore this user And a DJ face.” 10:56:40 AM 9/16/04 Sad Day “Joey, Dee-Dee, and now Johnny... Wherever these guys end up in the afterlife is where I want to be! There's still sizable aftershock left in my bones when I think back to witnessing the Ramones in concert. They roared. It was a non-stop audio barage who's energy could only possibly be eclipsed by the fusing of hydrogen atoms. Elvis' passing didn't mean much to me. He was a generation ahead of mine. However, when Joey passed away I knew what all those folks felt when the King died. A void was created by his interminable absence that will never again be filled. R.I.P. Johnny - Long Live The Ramones!!!” 11:35:43 AM 9/16/04 “Well he got his wish. Now he’s sedated.” 11:43:37 AM 9/16/04 “Nuclear amped sound, nice!!” 11:59:44 AM 9/16/04 “My ex was a professional drummer. He used to play shows at CBGB's back in the 80s.” 12:10:31 PM 9/16/04 “The Ramones will live on every time I crank them on my stereo! 53rd and 3rd...branh, branh, branh...” 12:23:39 PM 9/16/04
