Hey Hey! New guy in town

“Sup everyone. I'm kinda new around here, but not to backpacking. Just moved to New York, some podunkt town right outside of the big city. It's cool tho, not a huge city fan. Moved here from Colorado, and let me say it's quite a bit different. Where'd my mountains go?????

Anyway, I'm looking forward to some of the hiking out here, as I hear it's quite beatutiful. Probably not going to get a lot of the Alpine stuff I'm used to, but I think I'll survive. Problem is I know absolutly nobody here....and know even less about the trails. You guys ever do group trips??? I'd love to hike with some people who know their way around out here. Might even show you guys how it's done out west....if you're lucky. Haha. Like I said...not new to backpacking. Longest trip to date is 14 days, 95 miles. Had 4 days in a row with no water source. ahhh, such a good time. Back in my college days I used to get out near every weekend...we'll have to see how it goes now I'm in the *gulp* real world.

“Welcome, NY solo hiker. There are lots of people in the general area. Go to the link on Phil's Photo Page and there is a link to TTers by state. I'm in NH. You'll have to check out the Adirondacks and the Catskills, the Green Mts. in VT and the Whites in NH.”

“Hey there NY Solo Hiker. I used to live right outside of NYC also. The Catskills are probably around 1.5-2 hours away from you, depending where you are exactly. The Adirondacks, about 4 hours away. The the mountains aren't as big as they are in Colorado, they'll kick your butt. Switchbacks have no meaning in the northeast, and you can get close to, if not the same, elevation gains on a well-planned route (depending on what you've done before). Enjoy it, and good luck.”
