Well, it could be worse.
She could be broadcasting from right in front of your house.

Hi! I'm Bubbles McPerky live from the very spot the hurricane will royally screw over. I sure am glad I don't live right here. Oh look, a resident! Sir what's your name?

Uhhh, I'm Roam Around.

Mr. Around how does it feel to know for a fact that you are less than 24 hours from getting royally screwed by a hurricane and your landlord won't let you protect your belongings?

Uhh, really crappy? ~Hi mom!~

om - Didn't you say you were going to ride it out at your office, rather than at your home with all those trees?
I'll make me feel better if you do. I worry about you being alone at your woods covered house.

All y'all take care!!!
Be safe!!!!

I think I'm going to ride this one. For some reason I expect the worst to swing just west of us.

hpm - As low as your house is, y'all are going to higher ground, aren't you?
I'm on the water, and I NEVER stay.

hpm - Nevermind, I just looked at the track and realized it will be inland from y'all, so the water shouldn't be bad.

Dunno. Right now I'm staying put but that is definately subject to change in the next 12-24 hours. I have a few options in town though.

I'm lucky in that I live on one of the highest spots here. This storm needs to be at least a very strong 3 for me to flood out. The winds are more of a concern to me on this one though.

Yeah, I'm concerned that if I run I'll be in a worse situation than if I stayed.

I had a weak Cat 1 (Elana ?) put two feet of water in my basement a few years ago, but that was a direct hit. I'm on a slopeing lot and my ground floor is level with my front yard and my basement is level with my backyard.

yep SS, i am designated essential person at work this go around anyway,
I am getting prepared for no power at my home for a long time for when i come back.
I would rather chainsaw my way back to the house this time rather than have to work my way out... yah, it isnt the wind blowing the roof off I worry about or flood, but the huge trees ....i tell you...you cannot go one mile anywhere out here and even in gainesville without seeing these huge old oaks and pines that came down in frances....and houses and cars all bashed in.....i love a good storm, but i aint no fool neither! if the om dome gets crashed in, i have three tents, all the survival gear and enough logs lying around to build another...a cordwood house!!

It appears that Jeanne is getting excited about her date with me late tonight. Already she's been huffing and puffing pretty strongly. It's going to be fierce, when we tangle in earnest.

BYW, do I sense a little nervousness in humanpackmule?

It appears time to bring the trash cans and a few other things inside. Then I'll head for the Golden Que and see if I can clean-up a little.

Stay safe Florida people.

Yes, Om, tired of reading about people having to face these things. We went through about 30 years of relative quiet on the tropical storm front, and now face about 30 active years. This kind of scenario has always lurked out there as a threat, and this year a reality.

It's not just Florida though. The entire southeast coast and the Gulf coast also are prime landfall areas, as well as the Outer Banks.

Long Island and Cape Cod have had storms as well, and rainfall from tropical storms has caused catastrophic flooding in the Virginias, Pennsylvania, and other inland areas.

We really do share these things, although the risk is from different effects.

So again, stay safe. Check in on the other side.

Hi all..it has been forever since I have posted.

I've wondered how everyone weathered the 'canes..and it terrifies me that more are coming.

I have never been so scared in my life as I was last Thursday night when Ivan rolled through WNC. We were very blessed in that none of the trees that fell around our home landed away from it.

I can't imagine living in FL and experiencing this over and over...Ivan about did me in. I'm a nervous wreck now when I hear a tree fall or a limb snap. During the clean up process I've had to stay away.

I hope everyone weathers Jeanne safely.

I know it's a weird question. There's another person who goes by tango on another board I'm on who lives in florida and raises organic pork.

Just a coincidence, I guess. Good luck with the storm!

Back from the pool hall to fill up my water jugs. It has gotten gray and looks like the rain could start at any time, but I think I'll have some lunch. Then I'll head a couple of miles to Melbourne Village, where I'll be staying with some friends. Cheers.

Hey, take it easy, Roam Around. You don't have to finish off all that beer before you lose power. Save some to put on the free ice during the week.

You guys near the North side of that storm NEED to get on the South side quick!
I was about 30-40 miles to the West of IVAN and I got no major damage.

Breezy and mostly sunny, with puffy clouds of the obviously tropical origin, very nice so far. I just got back from the quilt show, and it was spectacular. The crushing crowds of last year were scared away by the storm, as were a few of the vendors. THey're closing it down at 5 pm tomight rather than 6, and tomorrow is completely canceled so people can get home or wherever they choose to hunker down. There's 2 ladies representing a store down in St. Cloud who are going to stay up here with some fellow quilters during the storm.

rain falling fairly steady, heavy at times now. Wind gusts still only around 35 or so maybe up to 45 for short gusts.

The latest report for here is it's a cat 3, and nearly stalled just off the coast down there. It's supposed to pass well west of here, but that may change. A stall in movement like this often indicates a path change, maybe nothing morethan a wobble.

three of the little trees they planted in the complex are down now. ALL of them went down from Frances and they just got them stood back up and staked out. Poor trees - they are only about 10 feet tall. At least the root balls will stay moist.

It's clouded over and the breeze has definitely picked up. Judging by radar another cloud/rain arm is cycling over us. I'm filling a bunch of my tupperwares with water and freezing them. Ice blocks will last longer than cubes. JEA here is saying if conditions are like Frances, power will be out for at least a week so don't git yer hopes up!

Riding the storm out
Waiting for the thaw out
On a full moon night in the
Rocky Mountain winter
My wine bottle's low
Watching for the snow
I've been thinking about what
I've been missing in the city

And I'm not missing a thing
Watching the full moon crossing the range
Riding the storm out

My lady's beside me
She's there to guide me
She says that alone we've finally
Found our home
The wind outside is frightening
But it's kinder than the lightning life in the city
It's a hard life to live
But it gives back what you give

To a certain degree yes. As y'all well know you need to be.

Bravado in times like these is either an attempt to raise spirits or the sure sign of a fool.

Ya know things could always be worse. After all, last time this happened those poor souls had Grover Cleveland as President.
