ATLANTA, Georgia (AP) -- A woman who was ticketed for having an obscene anti-Bush bumper sticker filed a lawsuit in federal court Monday against a county in the state of Georgia and its officials.

Denise Grier, 47, of Athens, Georgia, got a $100 ticket in March after a DeKalb County police officer spotted the bumper sticker, which read "I'm Tired Of All The BUSH**."

A DeKalb judge threw out the ticket in April because the state's lewd decal law that formed the basis for the ticket was ruled unconstitutional in 1990.

Grier is seeking damages from the county for "emotional distress," according to the lawsuit.

Grier also seeks a declaration in federal court that her bumper sticker is considered constitutionally protected speech because she is "uncertain and insecure regarding her right to display her bumper sticker in DeKalb County," the lawsuit said.

The lawsuit was filed by the American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia.

Grier, a nurse who works at Emory University and other hospitals, also is seeking punitive damages against the DeKalb police officer who gave her the ticket because he "acted with reckless disregard" of her rights, the lawsuit said.

1st, take it up w/ Georgia.

2nd, it figures you'd support public profanity. The children mean nothing to you.

3rd, this is all you've got (again)? LMAO!

Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm......

I don't seem to remember USA screaming when the Dems and Clinton tried to get the FCC to pressure ABC not to show Path to 9/11.

Surely USA would have been terribly upset at this outrageous strong arm action against true freedom of speech.

[VBG]

Correct me if I am wrong but where did USA come down on the whole speech control issue on the internet?

I think we have lost our sense of humor. I mean when people insulted Reagan he had a come back...but then when the 42nd couldn't take it (remember the hissy over talk radio, and the hissy over "Now You listen to me....).

Political Correctness is killing this country becuase the jokes we used to make over painful incidents are considered "incorrect". Part of the Feminization of America.

Who can tell me you didn't laugh at the Challenger Jokes, or the Jokes about Jeff Dahmer, okay the "sensitive ones" didn't but you know it helps us deal with pain.

Then you watch the Defeatocrats and the other LibSocs in the country and you learn...Freedom of Speech as long as you are saying what I want to hear is the mantra

SEATTLE -- U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert bragged at a Republican Party picnic last summer that the day after a school bus driver flipped off President Bush, he called the district's superintendent, leaving picnic-goers with the impression that he was responsible for getting the driver fired.
The 43-year-old single mother, whose name has not been released by the Issaquah School District or her union, was bringing a busload of middle-school children back from the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle on June 16 when the president and Reichert drove slowly by in a motorcade on their way to a fundraiser.

USA equates using profanities literally in front of a school bus of children as a 'Freedom of Speech' issue?

All I can say is 'wow'.

If you bothered to read...
Bill Dugovich, president of Council 2 of the Washington State Council of County and City Employees, disputed that Friday. No children saw the driver's gesture because she held her hand high out the window while the children were all looking at the president, he said. He added that when the district fired the woman in September, officials cited "a presidential aide" as the source of the complaint.

"She did this in a manner in which the kids clearly would not see it," Dugovich said. "She also apologized immediately to the school district. In 25 years I can't recall an instance where that type of incident would warrant that type of penalty."

Contrary to the superintendent's assertion that the incident was "part of a pattern of behavior with this particular bus driver," Dugovich said, "There is nothing in this lady's employment record would lead anybody to believe this was part of a pattern."

I read that article back when it came out.

Again, she used profanities in front of a school bus of children. She had no idea whether they could see her or not at the time. The fact(?) that they didn't means nothing.
