Yellowstone Backcountry Trip?View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 13 of 13 messages posted.
“I'm planning a 1-2 night trip in Yellowstone for sometime in mid-October. I don't know much about the park. Do you guys have any recomended routes or suggestions? Any advice is appreciated here.” 4:41:51 PM 9/17/04 “How cool! Be prepared that it might be very cold by then as well...I've only car-camped, so I can't help you much in that manner. Try checking out the National Park Service website for Yellowstone. THat should be helpful....” 4:43:25 PM 9/17/04 “Ask aero - he knows everything!” 4:44:12 PM 9/17/04 “I was in there for a few days in July. We were in the Lamar Valley. It's all I know but: Check out Lamar River Tr, Cache Creek Tr, Republic Tr, Thunderer Cutoff Tr, Pebble Creek Tr. Your best chance to see/here wolves is in Lamar.” 4:49:49 PM 9/17/04 “Oh, and if you're on the side of the road with binoculars, someone will inevitably drive up and say to you, "Whaddya see?!" You'll figure out what that means after a short drive into the park... If you don't see any critters, it's your own damned fault... :-D” 4:51:47 PM 9/17/04 “If you want to go to an extreeeemely remote and odd area and are quite comfortable with bushwhacking cross-country with advanced knowledge of map/compass and/or a GPS, try Fairyland Basin. When I went there I was told by the Park historian that fewer than 50 people had ever laid eyes upon it.” 5:00:29 PM 9/17/04 “I think BP magazine had a really good article on 5 trips into YNP that are pristine as hell. They are definitly for advanced wilderness people though. Someday I hope to do one.” 5:11:14 PM 9/17/04 “Yes, BP spilled the lima beans on Fairyland and even gave the BPS coordinates (sigh). You put the lime in the coconut you drank them both up. You put the lime in the coconut you drank them both up.” 5:15:31 PM 9/17/04 “And a little warning about those trails I mentioned; they are part of the burn area. We spent 2.5 days with no cover from the sun and no clouds. Boy did we burn. Although October might not be so sunny????” 5:15:34 PM 9/17/04 “A word of caution, you WILL get mauled by a grizzly and then as you hike out to get assistance, you WILL get gored by a bison. Don't worry about the p[ack of wolves following you, just act uninjured and you'll be okay.” 5:18:22 PM 9/17/04 “LOL Buck. nothings sacred, eh? Still, what's the percentage of people that will do them now that they've been exposed?” 5:19:00 PM 9/17/04 “Buck you forget that the Caribou will want to lick the salt off your feet, as will the mule dear... and of course the bald eagles will want to steal your meat and....” 5:21:54 PM 9/17/04 “the coyote and badger will hunt together to get whatever is leftover” 10:47:25 AM 9/19/04
