I'm all set to ride in the DC recreational ride and Grand Finale event of the Tour of Hope, 10/9. Getting into town 10/8, riding saturday 10/9, leaving 10/10.

Staying near Shady Grove Station. DC people, will you look at the ride start and finish, let me know if it is realistic to shuttle from Shady Grove to them via Metro? It seems to me it will work.

We are excited to announce details of the ride route for the
recreational
fundraising Tour of Hope ride in Washington, DC!

The beautiful 27.3 mile recreational ride will begin at the Georgetown
Preparatory School in North Potomac, MD at 8 AM. As requested by DC
Metropolitan Police, all riders will be re-staged at the Irish Pub at
Glen
Echo, MD to allow cyclists to triumphantly enter the District for the
last
leg together.

The entire rider envelope will then proceed at approximately 10:15 AM
into
the District for the final eight miles. Any cyclists who arrive after
10:15
AM or fall outside of the ride enclosure during this first leg of the
ride
will be required to complete the ride in a SAG wagon. The re-staging
is
required and will be strictly enforced by DC Metropolitan Police.

The recreational ride will conclude on the Ellipse with a Grand Finale
event, open to the public, where fundraising cyclists can join Lance
Armstrong, the Tour of Hope Team, and special guests.

Lance Armstrong will kick off the morning ride and continue with the
group
until he transitions out to meet the Tour of Hope Team for the final
leg of
their cross-country journey.

Parking will be available at the ride start at Georgetown Preparatory
School, however, we strongly suggest that riders be dropped off by
family or
friends who will then meet them at the Grand Finale on the Ellipse.
Riders
can also use the easily-navigable local subway system, Metro. For any
riders staying in downtown DC on Friday night, shuttle service will be
available from the JW Marriott Hotel to the ride start at Georgetown
Preparatory School.

Riders can pre-register the day before the ride, Friday, Oct. 8, at the
JW
Marriott Hotel or on-site at the start site on Saturday morning.

Information on fundraising prizes has been updated at
http://www.tourofhope.com/ride/fundraising.htm. Please stay tuned to
http://www.tourofhope.org for the most up-to-date and detailed
information.
Each registered rider will also receive a rider registration packet
containing more detailed information during the week of the September
27th.

Thank you for your dedication to the Tour of Hope. See you on the road
on
October 9th!

i looked up that school online, and it's really in North Bethesda, not North Potomac! which is a good thing, b/c North Potomac ain't metro-accessible. you can get to that school pretty easily using the metro, though...you'd ride from Shady Grove to the Grosvenor/Strathmore stop (address 10300 Rockville Pike) and the school's address is 10900 Rockville Pike...that's about a mile north of the metro stop. what do you think about that, is a mile a do-able distance?

and then, for the end of the race, there are eleventy-million metro stops around the ellipse.

bar time, woop woop! :-)

Don't give her a holler. She never leaves Bethesda, even for N. Bethesda.

Believes Y2 is spreading cooties all over the metro region.

Actually, Buddha, MD is really confusing. Lyra lives in the municipality of "Bethesda". This has nothing to do with Bethesda just North of DC. The municipality of Bethesda is within Capitol Heights of Maryland, just SE of DC.

And it's only listed as Capitol Heights.

Except for the gentrified section of Capitol Hill, Y2. ;)

Pathman ....

I just met this guy in a business meeting:

Dennis Cavner
Mr. Cavner is a principal of Waxman Cavner Lawson, a financial services firm serving high net worth individuals. He has been actively involved with the Lance Armstrong Foundation since 1999 and currently serves as vice chairman of the LAF board of directors. Cavner holds both business and law degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and currently serves on the UT Planned Giving Council. He lives with his wife Chris in Austin, Texas

Smart guy. He was presenting to my group on a private placement life insurance product he developed for high net worth clients.

He is on his way to Washington.

He gave me a Livestrong bracelet.

Pretty cool.

I gotta dig out my contribution form for LAF and make a donation.

This is a complicated deal! I'm at a sleep inn in Rockville. Had to go down to the Marriot tonight to register, a beer and a burger at John Harvard's Beer place. DC Steam is good!

7pm is when I figure I'll need food. Also, I have an 0700 flight Sun am. Still have to figure out how to get there. Damn metro doesn't run that early. Got out here just fine on it, but had to arrange a cab for tomorrow AM.

Madame's Organ is my kind of place! What a dive. Didn't see anybody I recognized, had couple of beers and headed to my room. Made it home today. Tour of Hope made the Washington Post today, Metro section.
