The SS weren't commies.” 7:24:03 PM 9/20/04 “I agree BB. Fake news does make you an idiot (see CBS thread). ;-)” 7:24:42 PM 9/20/04 “I watch them both. CNN puts me to sleep though. Niether one is fair and balanced but ya can see by the ratings which one gets watched more.” 7:25:19 PM 9/20/04 “Heck, who has time to watch TV?” 7:25:53 PM 9/20/04 “"What pun? The SS weren't commies." Apparently the only the only thing that has been proven to make ya stupid is Toledo colleges.” 7:26:58 PM 9/20/04 “Wasn't BB a history major?” 7:28:23 PM 9/20/04 “...with a self-proclaimed IQ of 147” 7:28:42 PM 9/20/04 “No, major ass hole.” 7:28:55 PM 9/20/04 “BB is a Major? When did he serve in the military? ;-)” 7:47:13 PM 9/20/04 “Misters jump to conclusions. Just because the thread includes communism, doesn't mean my SS refernece was related to communism. I've never made a connection, nor ever will make a connection between the SS (the political-social arm of the fascist Nazi dictatorship of Germany during the 30's and 40's) and socialist communism. My reference to StoveStomper as SS was merely an extension of his consistant beliefs and support of the republican party, and that party's similarities, tactically, and ideologically, with the Nazi party, as well as the ease of using the first two constanants of StoveStompers trail name with the aforementioned Nazi department. You guys are lucky I'm in a good mood, lately, I don't give lessons to the mentally unteachable.” 7:55:53 PM 9/20/04 “LOL I'm sure Fiddleboy is so proud of BB.” 7:58:19 PM 9/20/04 “Nice validation SS. I'm sure all you know is butt-kissing and pride in the name of ideology in your narrow-minded christian conservative world, but my response was not for the gratification of any one particular person, just an explanation of my educated view, and, if anything, to educate the uneducated that made the faulty assertions in the first place.” 8:02:27 PM 9/20/04 “If you guys truely knew what you were talking about, you may construe my overall views as communist, although you'd be wrong, for my overall views are democratic with an emphasis on government regulation on private industry, progressive social constitutional values, and total seperation of church and state. However, I don't expect you to comprehend that, but I do know that somebosy like Violin will, which makes SS sophmoric comment understandable in a "my 5 year old kid colored on the wall" kind of way.” 8:08:05 PM 9/20/04 LOL, BB has lost it. “Don't Be Hating, BB! You don't know the first thing about me. It will get better! It will all be over in a couple of months!” 8:09:05 PM 9/20/04 “SS - I don't hate you bro, and I haven't lost it, I just pity your reasoning. People like Nigal, however, are stupid beyond reproach. Kind of like WWF zombies, no intelligence, lot's of noise and cheeleading.” 8:11:08 PM 9/20/04 “Hi Buck and SS (excuse pun). Perhaps a more lighthearted pun might have been "Hi Buck and $$ (excuse pun). As it is now you'll be hearing from my slander lawyers. Which is cool because they have beautiful secretaries and I like it when my slander lawyers get called out of town on business like this. Whatever you do, do me a favor and fight this as long as you can. Regardless, YOU'RE GOING DOWN. HARD.” 8:14:31 PM 9/20/04 SS “You can't win political, or rational debates on "faith", merely because faith is based on an emotion, no facts. I admire those with faith because of their commitment in the face of logic and reason (to me, it's kinda like love....something ya could never prove, but can only speculate on). However, I can't stand, and don't accept those that force thier views, based on their religious faith, on how our nation, state or comminty is governed, for the very reason that faith isn't based on logic or reason.” 8:16:59 PM 9/20/04 “For some reason, Nigal, I have a hunch that it is actually a good thing, yes, an honor, to be called stupid beyond reproach by Buddha Bear®. It means you're on the right track. BB, DANG IT, I DEMAND THAT YOU CALL ME A MUTHUH-LOVIN' FREAKIN' COMPLETE IDIOT RIGHT NOW! I'd appreciate it anyway. Thanks in advance.” 8:18:55 PM 9/20/04 “#1 - the excuse pun parantheses was by Stove Stomper, which I clearly expressed in my following posts. #2 - What you are insinuating I committed would be libel, becuase I wrote it. #3 - I have a pretty good case linking Nazism with the republican party, especially after the 2000 election, so go ahead, waste your money. My email addy is jayd14@mail.com. I'll send you my address and phone number to spare you the $300 p/h that your lawyers would charge you to get it. #4 - Your candidate has been preaching about how frivolous lawsuits need to be stopped. Are you disagreeing with your commander in chief?” 8:22:27 PM 9/20/04 “#1 - the excuse pun parantheses was by Stove Stomper, which I clearly expressed in my following posts. #2 - What you are insinuating I committed would be libel, becuase I wrote it. #3 - I have a pretty good case linking Nazism with the republican party, especially after the 2000 election, so go ahead, waste your money. The biggest problem the Dem's have is they are turning off the vast middle class with all the 'Hate Bush' and uncivil actions. Just because someone has a different political opinion than you does not make them evil. These views are extreme and downright irrational. You used to be better than that and I considered you a friend.” 8:23:40 PM 9/20/04 Buck “I hope you follow through with your threat Buck, and if you are too much of an unintelligent coward to do so, please pass along my "Bush in an idiot and moron" threads to his campaign so he can try to sue me. Thanks.” 8:25:23 PM 9/20/04 “Where did I talk about 'Faith' or 'Christians'? Someone is a bit confused.” 8:28:29 PM 9/20/04 “Gee, Buddha, are you actually serious? Lighten up baby, I'm in looOOoove widyew.” 8:30:24 PM 9/20/04 “SS, with Buddha, everything is about his anger towards Christianity. It all links to back to that... probably a bad experience sometime in his past. It's okay.” 8:31:34 PM 9/20/04 “#2 - What you are insinuating I committed would be libel, becuase I wrote it. Nuh uhhh. This is a "chat" page, no?” 8:32:27 PM 9/20/04 Stovie “I agree, calling people names does not make me intellectually superior to them. However, it's much easier that going through the motions of proving the logic and reason behind the facts, so I guess I accept your charge of calling me lazy. My views are as extreme as are those that come from a religious point of view, so, in that case, I will agree that they are extreme in a political polar sense, but think that they are consistent with the constitution and the majority of Americans. In a constitutional sense, your views are extreme, and need to be defeated by all means neccesary. I'm even better than what I used to be, lol, and I still consider you a friend. Heck, me and DH disagree big time on this crap, but we remain friends. Why? I understand where he's coming from, and what he has to do. He understands where I'm coming from, and what I have to do. DH is one of the few religious people that I respect, because his heart is in the right place, he's an intrinsically good person, and can still maintain those qualities when dealing with people that totally disagree with him on something very important to him.” 8:35:25 PM 9/20/04 “No chat, this is a message board.” 8:36:18 PM 9/20/04 “BB, you seriously think your political views are in line with mainstream America? Excuse me one second... HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HAAAA! Ahem. Okay, where were we? Oh ya, you were the one who stated you wouldn't even be upset at all if Bush was assasinated. Dang you're mainstream. Right down the line. You're a slice of America, you betcha you are.” 8:39:23 PM 9/20/04 “It's funny. Since last October, when I left my "independent" status and aligned myself with democratic views (politically), and began attacking the war and speaking out, I've had two computers hacked to the point they are inoperable, and am being audited by the federal , state, and local governments. None of this has ever happened before, and I have nothing to hide, and embrace the fight. I just wish the cowards that reported me, or would accuse me of slander of libel, would show thier cowardly face, so I could laugh at them after I win. I guess this is why I implore you to sue me Buck.” 8:40:18 PM 9/20/04 “Heck Busk, my lack of compassion on an assasination of Bush is directly in line with the republicans "right to bear arms" view. I thought we could connect and that you'd appreciate that view.” 8:42:25 PM 9/20/04 “BB, you don't know what my views are and you are real busy putting words in my mouth. You are so wrong on so many levels it's not worth my time or poor typing skills to educate you.” 8:45:59 PM 9/20/04 “Buddha, I wouldn't even sue Al Franken if he tackled me, k? Suing is a liberal's way of achieving goals and making money, not mine. Why do you think the Dem's are in bed with the trial lawyers? It's a liberal way of life. As for your conspiratorial "they're all after me" stuff, well, does it make you feel any better that I get computer viruses now and then? I KNOW JOHN KERRY IS BEHIND THEM! Ever since I called him a flip-flopper I've been getting lots of Hotmail spam too. Coincidence? NOOOooooOOOooo sir reeee.” 8:46:06 PM 9/20/04 Buck “Whatever, your brief affability doesn't phase me.” 8:48:15 PM 9/20/04 SS “Cool, we'll leave it at that, and check out our latest lightweight tents when we run into each other on the trail. I hear that Henry Shire is not just for hobbits anymore.” 8:50:22 PM 9/20/04 “ Buddha, you're not even funny and it actually frightens me that there are people roaming around out there like you. You are the only person I've ever met on an internet forum that I could actually say this about. Spooky stuff. The anger, the bitterness, the despising-someone-so-much-I-don't-mind-if-they're-dead just because of ideological differences. Somethings wired wrong. I'm off this thread. *poof*” 8:50:37 PM 9/20/04 “Heck Busk, my lack of compassion on an assasination of Bush is directly in line with the republicans "right to bear arms" view. I no longer have any interest in hiking with you.” 8:54:25 PM 9/20/04 “I guess he can't debunk the republican's arguement on "the right to bear arms ". I truely feel that Buck is one of those guys that would see things differnetly if he truely knew what he was talking about. It's sad, but some folks join or align themselves with a certain party, not because of the political views or platform of that party, but because of personal status issues. I sense that many people on this site are that way, and it's pretty unfortunate.” 8:54:40 PM 9/20/04 “Heck SS, at least you've finally expressed it publically. It doesn't matter to me either way, but I've sensed you felt that way for a long time. Good for you for finally expressing it.” 8:57:43 PM 9/20/04 “Wow, this thing started playful and went downhill. I like your love analogy to religion. Wait, that's the whole point of Christianity. I just finished reading, "The Life of Pi." Here are two parts of a Q&A with the author. I thought it interesting and touches on some of BB's issues with logic and faith. BOOK: So in discussing religion, exactly where do you ultimately find yourself in terms of whether you're an atheist or an agnostic or a believer? YM: I think the good life is a life where decisions are taken. Atheism is a leap of faith. To say there is nothing out there, no greater meaning, is to some extent as much a leap of faith as saying there is something. The one position I find unacceptable is the position of the agnostic; this hemming and hawing I think is to a certain extent slothfulness. Most people who lead atheistic lives don't want to say that they're atheists, and so they just say, "I'm an agnostic. I'm still waiting. The jury's still out." But I think you have to come to a decision. If you take the non-atheistic side, if you decide to be some sort of believer, it doesn't mean there's no room for doubt. Of course there is. Doubt is the spice of faith. So I have personally made the decision to go on the side of "There is greater meaning." And I'm pursuing it. And I'm wracked with doubt, of course, and I find Christianity tends to overpersonalize God, but the figure of Christ is absolutely fascinating; he's actually an extraordinary character. Just entertaining those thoughts and speaking that language has made me a happier person, and it goes a lot deeper than most people realize. Most people dismiss it. They see Monty Python's version of religion or they say "Christians, they're the ones who did nothing for the Jews in the Holocaust. That's all I need to know and then I can dismiss the whole church." But if you read Christian mystics, if you read Martin Luther King or Mahatma Gandhi or whomever, you realize that there's a lot more there and that's where I want to be. I want to be in that place of discussing that. And so I have made my choice and I think that is important. I think you do have to make a decision on that, just for existential reasons. I think it's a better life. You make a decision, and you live with it or you change your mind, whatever. But you have to make decisions. Fence-sitting, I think, is profoundly unsatisfying to the human animal. BOOK: And did you make this decision to be a believer fairly early? YM: Oh God, I made it when I was writing Pi. I grew up in a completely secular household. My parents are the children of the Quiet Revolution, which was a time in Quebec in the '60s when the city just basically threw the whole Catholic Church in the garbage can and people left the church in droves. Quebec went from being the most backward Catholic province in Canada to being the most secular, forward-looking, progressive socially. And my parents are children of that time, so I grew up in a household where nothing good or bad was said about religion. It just didn't exist. I started going to Mass every week to see what exactly Catholics do. Initially it was just research. But bit by bit, I was taken by it, quite moved by the discussions of the importance of love. I decided to approach religion seriously, suspending my disbelief, all the problems I have with organized religion and all the stupid things organized religion has done, put that aside and tried to get to the core of it, to see what faith is about and I got bitten by it. I got taken by it. Now, I've switched 180 degrees, from being in a position where I couldn't imagine people believing this nonsense. Yes, there's a lot that can be dismissed, but those who dismiss it completely tend to be people who are young, who are healthy, who are wealthy, but once death starts getting close to you, once you start aging, once you start seeing some great act of evil, you start saying, "Wait a second here, maybe I'm being too reasonable here." And that's the thing—we're so beholden to reason we think reason will give all the solutions, will yield all that life can yield, and it doesn't. Reason is just a tool; it's really an astounding tool, but it's a tool to be used for practical purposes. But apply all the reason you want, we do age and diseases affect us and there is evil and there are rapes and there are murders and there are people who do horrible things and you somehow have to live with that.” 7:24:37 AM 9/21/04 “"I truely feel that Buck is one of those guys that would see things differnetly if he truely knew what he was talking about. I sense that many people on this site are that way, and it's pretty unfortunate." Buddha Bear 08:54:40 PM 09/20/04 I suppose it never occured to you that some may feel the exact same way about you.” 7:28:34 AM 9/21/04 “Wow, this is a top shelf meltdown! I'm going to step out on a limb and judge Buddha Bear's meltdown as more collosal than Bacpac's drunken hari kiri. I mean, all levels of government are out to git him for being a democrat? BWAHAHAHA - that's comedy genius! I don't think I could convey a sense of self importance nearly as well as that. the republican party, and that party's similarities, tactically, and ideologically, with the Nazi party Classic sophomoric error. Nazi philosophy was socialist, but Mr. 147 IQ (yeah right) Highly Educated Political Genius doesn't realize it. Trail Talk just doesn't get any better. I have to hand it to BB, he's master at drama. Beats out the Trees handily.” 7:47:22 AM 9/21/04 “By drama, I really mean histrionics.” 7:48:23 AM 9/21/04 “BB - after all of this is over I'd like to ask you to look at things honestly. Consider all the extremist, borderline hate that you're talking. The Republicans are no more out to steal babies than the Dems are out to make our taxes be at the 75% level. There is middle group and it's usually the better place to be. ***Note: this is not a conversation message, just general info**** If you're at all curious about logic and religion then the book, "Mere Christianity" is a decent one to read. It's written by CS Lewis who was an academic type. He was an aetheist English professor. The book is about his beliefs after his change and is a bit on the academic side. Consider this, If Kerry wins, my blood pressure won't rise, I won't lose sleep, and at bedtime prayers with my children a line will be, "Please help Pres. Kerry" just like the line is, "Please help Pres. Bush." The only difference is that by inaugeration I will be in a business partnership then and will be paying taxes at a higher rate, therefore I'll tighten up my butt a bit on inagueration day. What will your reaction be, BB, if Bush wins. From the sounds of it you'll react as if it's the end of the world.” 8:00:11 AM 9/21/04 “What a drama queen! Buddha Bush should just sit his conceded ass up top of a mountain and make everyone climb to the top so he can dispense his vast wisdom down form on high. What a megalomaniac. LOL!” 8:14:29 AM 9/21/04
