I implore all of my fellow backpackers to ask yourselves the following question:

Would you, yourself, volunteer, of submit your child to fighting a war in Iraq?

The category you choose for your thread is very important on how it will be displayed on Trail Talk. Please make a valiant effort. General topics about the outdoors and other friendly topics that everyone enjoys should be put under the General Backpacking/Outdoors/Fun category. All political and religion threads should be placed under Fuego. thebackpacker.com reserves the right to edit, delete and re-categorize any thread.

Well, this topic is important to everyone, not just political afficianados, which is why it's displayed that way. Way to portray the initials in your namesake though. (For republicans, I emphasized the S.S. in StoveStompers trailname).

Gee, I didn't realize that parents "submitted" their children to war. I woulda thunk it was the "child's" choice, as they're legally an adult at 18 years.

I'll have to keep an eye on Trail Talk today. BB promises to be entertaining.

How timely seeing as I just posted that my son is finally back in the states after a 1 year tour in Al Kaldiya, Iraq.

No BB. I would never volunteer or encourage my child to do that. He chose, being of 19 year old mind and body.

I don't feel that should be thrust on anyone.

BB, what do you care what other people and families do? Honestly, I'm curious what difference it makes to you what I choose to do for a career? If I want to be a soldier why should it matter to you? You don't have to do it, that's all that should matter. Help me understand, please.

so BB if you had the power and political clout to keep your offspring from going to war would you try your damn-dest to prevent that? Even if it meant hiding/destroying a paper trail?

More drivel from the way out left.

I would encourage my young son or daughter to go into the service of our great country. I have a niece and a nephew in each of the theaters right now and I am very proud of them. If had to do it all over again I would have joined myself.

Sass - you asked why BB should care about all that. It's because he's become indoctrinated by the left. Their job is to protect us from ourselves whether we need protecting or not.

Senior Shrub liberated Kuwait- where 10% of the citizens are allowed to vote- isn't that enough democracy for the Middle East? 100 hour war-61.1 billion spent and 293 US deaths- Desert Storm

If you needed further proof that Bush has become completely unhinged:

Bush: Would Give 'Mission Accomplished' Speech Again

CRAWFORD, Texas (Reuters) - President Bush said he had no regrets about donning a flight suit to give his "Mission Accomplished" speech on Iraq in May 2003 and would do it all over again if he had the chance, according to excerpts from an television interview released on Sunday.

When asked by Fox News if he still would have put on a flight suit to declare major combat operations in Iraq over, Bush replied, "Absolutely."

When Bush gave his May 1 speech fewer than 150 Americans had died in the war. Since then more than 900 have died.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The CIA believes the Iraq insurgency poses an international threat and may produce better-trained Islamic terrorists than the 1980s Afghanistan war that gave rise to Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda, a U.S. counterterrorism official said on Wednesday.

A classified report from the U.S. spy agency says Iraqi and foreign fighters are developing a broad range of deadly skills, from car bombings and assassinations to tightly coordinated conventional attacks on police and military targets, the official said.

I thought we (the US govt) had stopped that part. It took a group of private citizens (Minutemen) to show that you can stop people from crossing the border.

It is a shame Pres Bush had so little regard for these people.

Sarge

sarge, it isn't ridiculous at all. Three million illegals are crossing over the US Border with Mexico every yr. It is growing every yr. That doesn't sound like the govt is protecting the US border at all.

funny not that long ago you agreed with the minutemen's actions now it looks like you disagree with it because I said something about Bush
Ewker

I didn't say anything that should have given you the impression that I disagree with the minutemen. What I disagreed with is where you said we (the US govt) had stopped protection of the border. The reality is we've stepped up our ability to monitor the borders.
Sarge

The main reason there are more illegals is Bush's idiotic talk about giving the amnesty. It literally makes me sick to my stomach. I've always maintained that on here, yet you are quick to stereotype me as a Bush worshipper.
