I already have the map.” 9:29:38 PM 9/21/04 “I guess I should have added the link to the trip. http://www.thebackpacker.com/trips/trip.php?id=502” 9:39:46 PM 9/21/04 “Im there let's finish this trail off And hey I already have a map too.” 9:45:08 PM 9/21/04 “Yeah, but do you have to do the Leota to Elk Creek segment over again?” 10:02:06 PM 9/21/04 Chin “glad to see youre going to get back on the trail!” 10:06:41 PM 9/21/04 “I should be healed by then. I hope. If not, I'll back out of this one. Knobstone has some nasty downhills and I'll need both knees. :-)” 10:31:28 PM 9/21/04 “Hey Chinmusic, You'll have to bring your nifty GPS along to. Looking forward to finishing the trail. I'm thinking of driving down Friday night, and hiking in a little ways like we did last time.” 12:19:33 PM 9/22/04 “I have to get the OK from the wife on this one. I really want to see this trail. I may be hiking the week before so i am a maybe.” 12:23:22 PM 9/22/04 “I'll see if I can join in with you guys this time. The Leota to Elk Creek section is the toughest on the Knobstone. ChinMusic - are you using treking poles? They really help with the steep downhills.” 9:53:23 PM 9/22/04 ChinMusic “I don't have to do the Leota to Elk Creek segment again but why miss out on the fun. You are going to love that little segment!! I wan't to see your GPS readout on the elivation profile.” 10:07:58 PM 9/22/04 “It's good to have the nasty section early while I still have something left in the tank. gforce, Yes I have two poles but maybe my technique sucks.” 11:11:56 PM 9/22/04 “Leota to Elk Creek!! Boo Yaa!!! I'll race you Eveningred!!” 11:17:44 PM 9/25/04 “Hey havent heard from chinmusic in a while, anybody seen him lately?” 11:19:48 PM 9/25/04 “Alive and well. Hubcap, You and Eveningred can clear those spiders out of the way for me anytime. Well, I guess in November Mother Nature will have taken care of this problem.” 1:29:15 AM 9/26/04 “Hubcap, How was Isle Royale? Looking forward to getting out there someday soon.” 9:06:17 AM 9/27/04 Hubcap “Race on Hubcap, at least this time we will know where the trail goes!! Time for more spider clearing for ChinMusic. ChinMusic if there aren't any more spider webs to indicate that you are off trail, does that mean that you will be finding more corn fields?” 9:23:23 AM 9/28/04 “Hey, no invites? Unfortunately I won't be able to make this trip but if anybody is thinking about hitting the North Country Trail in Ohio over Thanksgiving I might see you there.” 9:29:30 PM 9/28/04 “Chin Music, listen to G-force, because he broke his arm on the Knobstone this year.” 9:40:30 PM 9/28/04 “Silent J, Sorry you can't make the trip. Catch-up with you on another hike. Happy trails...” 8:59:11 AM 9/29/04 “Yeah, I'll be around. I'll send out invites early next year for the Wild Oak Trail in VA. I'm planning on breaking my ass in two for my first hike of the year. I'll be more than happy to share the experience with everybody : )” 8:20:45 PM 9/29/04 “
Chin Music, listen to G-force, because he broke his arm on the Knobstone this year.
That's right, if anyone needs firsthand information on how to break a wrist, I'll guide you through the process . . . :)” 8:54:26 PM 9/29/04 Knobstone, North “Salem: I'm in for the KT in Nov. Weather permitting, my daughter and I are arriving Friday during the day, hiking and camping Friday night on the trail. I just haven't figured out where yet.” 5:16:04 PM 10/31/04 “I work friday night, so i like the original plan better :)” 10:51:10 PM 10/31/04 “Golfhiker and I plan to drive down Friday afternoon, and hike in a little ways to camp. I'll leave a couple of light sticks on the trail near camp if anyone wants to join us? We'll probably get to the TH around 6.” 7:49:44 AM 11/01/04 “sounds like a plan! yes, leave some lightsticks maybe. Not sure when we will get to the TH. I am trying to get friday off but if I can't then we will arrive saturday. About how far in are you planning to camp? Oh, and I need directions to the trailhead, can ya e-mail me at mscmbackpacks@yahoo.com please. last edited: 11/01/04 9:05:40 AM” 9:00:58 AM 11/01/04 “I have hike through Leota Trailhead before, and marked on my map places that other people had found as campsites. The better one is about a third of a mile south of the trailhead, down in the valley just before crossing the intermittent stream. Hiking north, the first such campsite is about a quarter mile in on the east on top of a hill, but it is a dry campsite with no water nearby. Which campsite are you all thinking of staying at Friday night so we can all meet up? With our day hiking, we endeavor to be there about an hour or so before sunset. Directions to Leota (as of 16 months ago): Southbound on I-65, exit at Scottsberg/ Salem, Indian Route 56 West, Exit # 29B. Go west on Indiana Route 56 3.3 miles to the "Leota" sign, West Road. Turn left, and go southbound 2.2 miles on West Road, to Bloomington Trail Road. Turn left southeastbound on Bloomington Trail Road and go .2 mile south. Make a sharp right hand turn at the covered bridge, Leota Road. Go westbound on Leota Road 2.4 miles until Saylor Road, a Tee intersection. Make a right turn on Saylor Road, and go 1 block to the Knobstone Trail Sign. Turn right eastbound into the parking lot, and park at the end. Drive carefully, as the Amish travel these backroads in horse drawn wagons. My cell number is 708-341-2302, but reception is spotty.” 10:31:35 AM 11/01/04 “Drive carefully, as the Amish travel these backroads in horse drawn wagons Cool, targets :D Thanks prosecuter :)” 10:33:51 AM 11/01/04 “Leota to Elk Creek = up, down, up, down, up, down, etc.” 11:11:05 AM 11/01/04 “it cant be as bad as being at 10'000 feet and hiking to 14,000 feet. I dont care if ya all claim it is worse, I just can't believe it.” 11:13:52 AM 11/01/04 “Prosecutor, The campsite North of Leota sounds better for the cool temps predicted for Friday night. I will probably bring some water in my car, so being near water won't be an issue. Looking forward to hiking with you, and your daughter.” 1:10:57 PM 11/01/04 “We are going to leave friday afternoon too. Screw work, if I dont get the pto oh well, i'll call off :) Its gonna be a blast!!! I'm gonna bring da booze :D” 1:12:33 PM 11/01/04 “I'll see you at the north campsite then.” 2:30:07 PM 11/01/04 “Hot damn! It's all coming together! [i]” 7:14:56 PM 11/01/04 “maybe, maybe not. The car blew up on my way to work today :( stopped right in the middle of an intersection in the pouring rain. I had to get out and walk to a phone.... ass holes were honking and giving me dirty looks...dumb asses its not like I wanted to be there! They could of at least used thier cell phones to help out...a little more productive then honking.” 11:42:40 PM 11/01/04 “Hubcap, Are you going to make this hike, or did the Leota to Elk Creek section scare you? :-^ Salem” 7:57:01 AM 11/02/04 << back to Knobstone Trail page
