Ok, I was told by the head boss by phone that I would be coming back to work today. I was excited. I missed my co-workers, the work AND the paycheck (A LOT!) BUT when I went in I was not on the schedual and this worried me because she had been mad I had to take such a long leave of absence and said since I was sitll on probation I wasnt even supposed to have leave and was going to fire me if I didnt make it in today (Like I could help it being sick in the hospital for so long!!) . I waited for my supervisor to come into the office and talked with him. He said I was schedualed to come in tommorrow and that I needed a docotor's release back to work dated for today. He would not accept the one I had dated for YESTERDAY. What a turd! He said I had to have it into him by tommorow. I got so frustraited I was at the point of tears. It cost me $$ to see the doc to get that little slip of paper. Money I couldn't afford because I havnt been working. I was damned If I was going to have to make another appointment and spend even more money I don't have just for another freaking little square of paper! I was nearly in tears.

Thats another thing I gotta rant on. Why the hell do I have to cry so much? I cry at happy things, I cry when I'm royally pissed off, I cry at sad things. The only time I don't cry is when I'm down right depressed! I try my damndest NOT to but my tearducts seem to have a mind of their own. So here I was PLEADING with my supervisor not to fire me, tears leaking from my eays making a fool of myself Promising that I would somehow magically get this paper he needed one way or another.

So, what do I do? I went to the 3rd floor where I had stayed for two weeks in my illness to try to talk one of the nurses I knew into "Forging" one of these notes. They wern't all that helpful. And I was growing more and more frustraited. "I'm gonna lose my job!" I bug them enough to get the Doc's office number who had been in charge of me and their fax # so I could use the fax in the nurses station there. I borrow the use of one of their phones too and made my call right there. I wanted to talk to the doc to tell him my rough situation but all I could get was his somwhat useless nurse. (Tears again!) Please, I'm gonna lose my job, need it ASAP!
"We'll what do you want it to say?"
I tell him exactly what it should say. Then "When will you fax it? I need it quick"
"Don't know. Have to talk to the doc."
Well why couldnt I have talked to the friggen doc and get it done now????
"I will talk to the doc. Goodbye"
Grrrrrrrrrr. I wanted to bash something. So here I am home, hoping the doc faxes what I need to the 3rd floor of the hospital by tomorrow, and that the nurses don't loose that so important fax before I can get it if it comes. Thres a lot of IFS that I don't like. Needless to say, I doubt I'll get much sleep tonight. Ah, there goes the waterworks again!

Hey Free, I've been in some bad straits and it always seemed worse when it was happening than it ended up being. I know it's hard, but try to relax into the bad spots and just concentrate on not making things any worse. Let things work themselves out, and add your own little nudge where you can.

Roll with the punches a little more and it hurts less.

Sorry to hear you are having such a rough day! With how much you say you've been crying, do you think you might be suffering from some depression?
That might have something to do with your weight loss issue as well....

Hopefully, things will get better for you soon!

Hugs....Free........you will be ok......and as far as crying???...my kids make fun of me cause I cry at tv commercials.....we are girls.....we cry....it relieves stress.....cleanses our souls....and If ya lose the job, so be it....find another......sometimes things are not in our control......we just have to roll with the punches.....and maybe the next job will be better.....and you will find a supervisor who likes you....(easier said than done I know..:( )

so go ahead cry up a storm......and then walk into work with the first excuse and go to your boss' boss ( if there is one) and I think it is illegal to fire you for medical reasons.....anyone know the facts about that????

Best.

Free, I hope when you left your job for an extended amount of time, you did so on the jobs disability so that you kept getting a paycheck even though I think they don't give you a full check.

If I am understanding this right, the doctor just gave you a letter to return to work, can just issue you another one for free if it's just a day or so later.

If they fire your skinny butt, you will be entitled to unemployment, which you may not want since they don't pay a full pay check as if you worked.

You also may be able to sue to get your job back if you followed procedures all the time. It's hard to go back to a job that way though.

Free - FWIW, you might have a hormone situation. My wife goes through wen she stopped taking the pill. She took the pill mainly to regulate her levels. Even with the pill, your hormones could be outta wack. This couls have something to do with your weight situation. Your description of your situation made me think of that.

Unemployment is fine. It least it's something until you get going again. Thank godness for it; it's helped me in the past. I understand that you work in the medical field. If so, you have a good chance to recover a job. From what I understand, that field is pretty stable.

Good luck ad remember: Everything happens for a reason and there is always a lesson to be learned.

Thanks guys, you rally are making me feel better. TT friends are some of the best :D

Lipstick as it was an emergency hospitalization I didnt make any plans for leave. Plus I am still on probation (reletively new job) so technically I wasnt even supposed to get leave yet. No paychecks for me at all during this time.

It was hard enough to find this job around here. Not a lot of jobs in the area. Took me SEVERAL months to even get my application looked at by this place and they only did because a friend kept recomending me.

I have no doube the sun will shine again another day but untill then I have tt :D

Hey, it's the natural reaction of just about all of us humans to freak out when we are worried about keeping beans on the table, and paying our bills. I have been scared at several times in my life because of scarcity of work, so I feel your pain. It's OK to feel panicky, just remember to take deep breaths. Go ahead and give yourself license to enjoy the little moments of life, even in the midst of the freaky times.
I really hope this situation is resolved to your liking, and soon.

Talk to a Lawyer
Free:

If you get fired talk to an employment lawyer. Not some generalist, find a specialist. If you need help finding one, let me know where you are and I will see if I can refer you to someone. Also, I don't understqand why your supervisor would not accept a note from the Doc saying you could go back to work yesterday. So long as the back to work date is before they put you on the schedule, what difference does it make? It sounds like your supervisor is playing fast and loose with the rules. DO NOT make any threatsabout getting a lawyer. Just wait and see what they do. If they fire you, take it from there. As far as the bills go, if United Airlines can seek bankruptcy protection, why can't you? you can file "pro se" (on your own w/o a lawyer and the clerks and referees will help you with the paperwork. Consider it a fresh start. especially if the hospital where you were treated is your employer, it will serve them right for firing you if they do.

For gods sakes, don't fiel for bankruptcy. You don't go to debotor's prison anymore for not paying bills. Just pay them back slowoly as you can if you get a new job. Bankurupty will wreck your credit a lot more and a lo t longer than some late (even way late) paid bills.

And take a look at AJ the lawyers post. Its one run-on paragraph with a non-sequiturish phrase at the end. Is that the wrinting of a lawyer? Or at least a lwyer you want to take advice from?

You need to weigh the time it would take to pay off the bills over time vs. the length of time a bankruptcy stays on your credit report (up to 10 years). Even if you can pay off the bills much faster than 10 years, being able to wipe out the debt so you can start saving money now would make it worth it. Not to mention you can make major purchases 2 years after filing - sometimes sooner with a bigger downpayment. There is nothing bad in this day and age with filing for bankruptcy.
techntrek
10:12:46 AM
9/24/04

An example. If it takes you 5 years to pay off the debts, you will have zero in the bank 5 years from today. And you can't afford to buy a car or house, etc. File for bankruptcy today and in 2 years or less you can buy a car, after 2 years a house, and the whole time you can save up money. Three years from filing you can be getting tons of platinum card offers in the mail, at sub-prime rates. Five years from now you can have a ton of money in the bank and/or have major purchases under your belt. It can be one of the best decisions you make in your life.

Wasn't my fault I had to. And if I hadn't 3 years ago I wouldn't have been able to buy the $18K car 2 years ago, or the $350K house 5 months ago. I would still be in my old teeny-weeny house, with my Geo Metro car, and would still be in debt.

File, spend the next 2 years rebuilding your credit (bills on time, etc) and you have your whole life ahead of you.

Don't be jealous of others that get the opportunity to get a fresh start, bales. By the way, the day I filed my credit score was over 800. I had perfect credit - I bet yours has never been close to 800. I just did the cost/benefit analysis and knew it was the better route. Obviously I made the right choice.

My Advice
Stikmon - just ignore this thread.

Bales: what law school did you go to? My advice was off the cuff and was not meant to be a proefessional brief. I was just trying to be helpful. Bankruptcy is a legitmate route for someone who's life has taken some unfortunate turns. I do not recommend it for everyone. But if you look at major corporations (examples United Airlines, etc) who have used it, why shouldn't eh little guy use it ,too?

There are alternatives to straight bankruptcy. The individuals version of Chapter 7 reorganization is Chapter 13 I believe. It allows for debt repayment over time, but cuts of interest and finance charges. It is a valid form of bankruptcy. But, if, because of a legitimate health problem or loss of income through being laid off, one gets into serious debt problems, why shouldn't they take the bankruptcy route. You kow we are all just a paycheck or two away from that. Even the superwealthy sometimes live beyond thier means and that IS their fault. To those living on the edge, a serious medical problem or short term loss of employment is devastating. Have a heart, man.
AJ

While you still technically have a job, can you apply for a low interest loan? If you lose your job, you will not get the loan.

From what I hear, bancrupcy is the LAST route to take, because it's hard to rebound from that and build up credit and who knows what else.

As big an A$$ as Bales can be .. .I gotta say he's right on this one. In Techtrek's case.

Individual bankruptcy is menat for folks like Free25. Lives check to check, gets hit with medical bills or some similiar catastrophe, loses their job and wouldn't be able to dig their way out with honest hard work.

Bankruptcy is not intended to allow folks to walk away from bad decisions and trade up from a geo metro and small house to a 18k car and big house.

The law can certainly be used that way . . . .as techtrek did, but it says an awful lot about him as a person that he considers his use of bankruptcy in this manner a point of honor.
