A co-worker is getting into backpacking and is looking into getting one of these packs...

Anyone know anything about them?

One of my friends has the Outdoor Products version of a CamelBak. Its been okay for him, but I don't know of anyone with the OP backpacks.

Outdoor Products
I have a number of their tarps, stuff sacks etc...if the quality holds consistant through their product line they should be okay.....

I bought one of their packs on a close-out. Never took it on the trail because it just didn't feel right. I have wide shoulders so I attribute my problem to that. Otherwise seemed like a good pack.

I'll sell mine to you for what I paid - $40 + shipping.

Outdoor Products is a "budget" brand, but hey, I'd rather use a cheap backpack if that's what it took to get me hiking rather than staying at home. I started backpacking years ago with a super cheap pack and an even cheaper tent and a super cheap aluminum mess kit and hiked in blue jeans and cotten t-shirts with cheap boots. But I had a blast.

I did? I called your friend "cheap"? I thought I called your friend "super cheap"? ha ha! If it were me, I'd rather to to e-bay first and see if I could buy a "good" pack cheaply rather than a new cheap pack. But still, like I said, the main thing is to BACKPACK no matter what! YAAAAAAA!!!

I hiked with an off-brand pack for years, and that thing went all over the East Coast. It finally just wore out, but it gave a lot of service.

Outdoor Products are sold in Wal-Mart and Kmart.
Decent products for a lower price, but you will move beyond them as you get more experince.
Hey, Buck is right, hike with what you got.

For beginners, it makes sense not to pay a lot of money to start off, at least until they decide they love packing.
