Mt. Sterling

“Mt. Sterling Gap is off of NC284 (also called Mt. Sterling Rd.).

I'm starting my hike at Mt. Sterling Gap on the Mt. Sterling Trail, off of this road. I was wondering if anyone knew if there is a sign at this trailhead and/or a gravel pulloff area? Let me know if you've been there. Thanks!”

“yes there is a small parking area at the trailhead”

“1. Not the best place to leave a car. I prefer to park at Mt. Mama's and use a shuttle.
2. Is the road open, yet? I suggest that you check with the Park.”

“Yeah, the road very well might be closed from all the rain. The parking area is REALLY small, two cars tops and its just barely a pulloff on the side of the road. I think there is a trail sign there, but you'll miss it if your not looking close. Its a really steep pull up to the gap too, get your lungs in shape. Great campsite on the summit above the gap just a short piece though.”

“I really want to do some hiking on Mt. Sterling sometime. Maybe next summer.”
