Maryland Bear HuntView Messages10:25:20 AM 9/28/04 “Hunting is a very effective and profitable wildlife management tool.” 10:30:25 AM 9/28/04 “That reminds me, bear season opened up on the 18th here.” 10:36:56 AM 9/28/04 “Buttpusher at it again. Useless news. Uncle Cletus say you be addicted to PC and need to get a life. Too much posting on TT is bad for your health. Get help man!” 10:38:47 AM 9/28/04 “*click*” 10:58:43 AM 9/28/04 “StoveChumper. Uncle Cletus say you remind him of Gomer Pyle. By Golly Gee. You be a nerd?” 11:13:25 AM 9/28/04 “OAKLAND // It was a school morning, but Sierra Stiles wasn't gathering her books. Instead, in the pre-dawn blackness, the 8-year-old pulled on a camouflage shirt, pants and boots, and grabbed a high-powered hunting rifle. The third-grader from Western Maryland had beaten out 1,992 applicants - mostly men - to be selected through a state lottery as one of only 200 to obtain hunting licenses for Maryland's second black bear hunt in a half-century. Hiding with her father behind trees on her family's farm, Sierra used a .243-caliber rifle to shoot a 211-pound male black bear yesterday morning, the first kill of the season, according to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. In the end, the youngest and smallest hunter also proved to be the quickest to claim a trophy. "I'm so proud of her," said Robert Harvey, 65, her great-uncle, who owns the farm in Kitzmiller where the bear was shot. "It's good to get these kids outside, so they can really learn." Sierra's bear, which she plans to turn into a rug, was one of 13 to be registered with game officers yesterday at the Mount Nebo Wildlife Management Area just north of Oakland, with two others weighed-in at a state office in Frostburg. http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/local/bal-te.md.hunt25oct25,1,3375766.story?coll=bal-home-headlines” 1:55:31 PM 11/01/05 “Eight? Must start them out old up North. ;-)” 1:58:05 PM 11/01/05 “Hmmmm, wonder if her dad actually got a licence on the lottery ......” 2:02:16 PM 11/01/05 “ ”2:04:39 PM 11/01/05 “Yeah, they start 'em old up here too. You can't even get a hunting license until you're 12 in NY. You have to wait until you’re 16 before you can hunt big game.” 2:09:22 PM 11/01/05 “oh i can hardly see for crying so ahrd why why why would someone teach a chilkd that young to kill a helpless teddy bear? they learn how to kill early enough when they run over their first kitty cat with the car? our whole reace is evil evil and and mean too i hope we all die soon” 2:10:42 PM 11/01/05 Born To Kill!!!!!! “ 2:11:07 PM 11/01/05 “Moonbat would be proud of me. I hugged a deer on Saturday. Sunday I had its tenderloin for dinner.” 2:14:26 PM 11/01/05 “Hmmmm, wonder if her dad actually got a licence on the lottery ......” Y2 3:02:16 PM 11/01/05 I'm confused...” 2:14:29 PM 11/01/05 “My Dad bought my first gun for me when I turned 12. It was a kid's sized 20 gauge single shot shotgun. Still have it. Dang thing kicks like a mule because it's so light. I never could hit anything worth a dang with it because I would close my eyes as I pulled the trigger, waiting for the shock of the recoil. The he11 with whatever I was aiming at. At 14-15, I finally killed a deer, so I felt I had proven my manhood and I pretty much quit hunting.” 2:17:50 PM 11/01/05 “SS, was it made by New England Arms? I bought one of those when I was 13.” 2:22:39 PM 11/01/05 “Twig, 2,000 applications, 200 licences, bear shot on land..... we sure she pulled te trigger on this one?” 2:24:08 PM 11/01/05 “Hunting is one of those things that I would like to do, but don't have a way to get started, really. Plus, to be honest, I'm afraid of the rednecks in the woods with guns.” 2:24:36 PM 11/01/05 “Some other brand, zac. This was 39 years ago.” 2:25:09 PM 11/01/05 “Plus, to be honest, I'm afraid of the rednecks in the woods with guns.” bitpusher 2:24:36 PM 11/01/05 Me too, and some of them are my beloved relations. ;-) My dang oldest nephew is dangerous in the woods with a gun. Dang kid would shoot at noise. last edited: 11/01/05 2:29:22 PM” 2:27:26 PM 11/01/05 “Then there the problem with bringing home a dead deer and making my daughter cry, lol...” 2:29:01 PM 11/01/05 “Bambi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” 2:30:00 PM 11/01/05 “Let her help you harvest the meat. ;-) First you hang it up by the rear legs, remove all the skin, make a carefull cut around the anus, cut down the belly, pull the guts out............. last edited: 11/01/05 2:33:41 PM” 2:32:29 PM 11/01/05 “Exactly! Heck she cries when I joke about shooting the chipmunks that have invaded our yard.” 2:35:20 PM 11/01/05 “It's that "careful cut around the anus" stuff that bothers me. I can cut up a chicken carcass with no problem, but I've never cleaned anything bigger than a fish.” 2:37:16 PM 11/01/05 “You are raisin' that girl wrong, bit! ;-) I guess it's too late for that video above to help.” 2:37:39 PM 11/01/05 “Twig, 2,000 applications, 200 licences, bear shot on land..... we sure she pulled te trigger on this one?” Y2 3:24:08 PM 11/01/05 oh I get what you're saying now...why would you doubt it though? zac did you already get your deer? congrats! :)” 2:40:55 PM 11/01/05 “SS, why aren't you gutting the deer right after it's shot?” 2:42:29 PM 11/01/05 “Plus, to be honest, I'm afraid of the rednecks in the woods with guns.” bitpusher Seriously, no problem. You are armed, they are armed. As Robert Heinlen said, "An armed society is a polite society".” 2:43:57 PM 11/01/05 “That didn't save my step-cousin. He was killed by a stray bullet. I know that's rare, but that's my family history.” 2:45:11 PM 11/01/05 “zac did you already get your deer? congrats! :)” twigeater 3:40:55 PM 11/01/05 ignore this user Not me, my cousin did, but since I was on the hunt with him, I get venison.” 2:45:59 PM 11/01/05 “careful cut around the anus - yeah, but at least you can see what you're doing - not like cutting the windpipe and stuff.” 2:46:21 PM 11/01/05 “SS, why aren't you gutting the deer right after it's shot?” lumberzac 2:42:29 PM Because my family hunts near our family home, and a four wheeler is available to carry it out. No need to lighten it up, plus who likes to hunt around rotten deer guts? last edited: 11/01/05 2:48:55 PM” 2:47:29 PM 11/01/05 “Not me, my cousin did, but since I was on the hunt with him, I get venison.” lumberzac 3:45:59 PM 11/01/05 cool - I never heard of anyone doing that here - you get the meat of your deer, and if you don't get one - tough luck! do you like the heart?” 2:47:46 PM 11/01/05 “And don't hit the stomach or bladder, unless you want a smelly mess.” 2:48:01 PM 11/01/05 “And don't eat the brains no more.” 2:49:17 PM 11/01/05 “do you like the heart?” twigeater 3:47:46 PM 11/01/05 ignore this user I've never tried it, but it didn't matter with this deer, the heart was in about 100 pieces.” 2:50:29 PM 11/01/05 “nice shootin' on your cousins part, zac. even using 4 wheelers we gut in the woods.” 2:53:14 PM 11/01/05 “All the hunters in a hunt divide up the kills around here. Only the solo hunts not on leased hunting lands get the whole kill. Most of the time the hunters will get their meat allready ready for the freezer, wrapped and all. Y'all are making me hungry for some deer cooked by my Mama!” 2:53:41 PM 11/01/05 “I don't think we have such a thing as leased hunting land - how does that work? I still have deer in my freezer from last year - just sausage I think.” 2:55:49 PM 11/01/05 “even using 4 wheelers we gut in the woods.” twigeater 2:53:14 PM We do not hunt Moose here. ;-) How the heck would you get a dead Moose out?” 2:56:52 PM 11/01/05 “SS, I guarantee you the guts are gone by now. I betting the coyotes took care of them that first night.” 2:58:49 PM 11/01/05 “How the heck would you get a dead Moose out?” StoveStomper 3:56:52 PM 11/01/05 ignore this user By truck or you would have to cut the animal up into quarters. last edited: 11/01/05 3:01:54 PM” 2:59:40 PM 11/01/05 “ ”3:02:16 PM 11/01/05 “Crap, we have coyotes too. Didn't think of that, but I'm not an active hunter anymore. Most of the land is owned by big paper companies here, twig. They will set up areas, usually by hundred acre blocks, and accept bids from hunting clubs for hunting rights. The clubs exist to pool money from 20-30 hunters to lease the land.” 3:04:24 PM 11/01/05 ““How the heck would you get a dead Moose out?” StoveStomper 3:56:52 PM 11/01/05 ignore this user March that muthuh out of the woods at gun-point and cap 'is ass when ya get to the truck.” 3:04:40 PM 11/01/05 “When is the Pennsylvania beaver hint?” 3:05:53 PM 11/01/05 “You're supposed to be careful where you shoot your moose so you can get it out, by 4 wheeler and come along usually. Most dead moose I see are still whole on the trailer. Because of the time of year that moose are shot they have to be processed quickly. We have plenty of paper company land as well, but I never heard of what you're talking about Stovie. Plus we have state owned game preserves and private land to hunt on.” 3:12:12 PM 11/01/05 “http://www.internationalpaper.com/Forest/Forest%20Applications/Hunting%20and%20Leasing/gulf_hunting.asp Here ya go, twigeater. Get a couple of hundred acres for me.” 3:18:32 PM 11/01/05
