I'm actually mad about Spring Forward. That means the sun will be coming up later. Crap. That's going to make it harder for me to get out of bed eary. Dam!

Pixie . . .

ifyou are not a morning person . ..then don't go to the gym in the morning.

How does your lunch hour look?

If you are going out, or the the cafeteria, or eating at your desk every day . . ..then go to the gym instead!

Make sure you snack mid morning. A good one, with protein (=:->) . . .and eat lunch afterward at your desk.

Come in a little earlier, or leave a littel later to make it work.

One of the best things i ever did for myself was to stop going to the cafeteria with my buddies from work every day for lunch.

I would drop $7 -8 on a huge plate of food.

Once I stopped doing that, and going to the gym instead, I dropped 12 pounds and saved money by eating a lighter, healthier sandwich back at my desk afterwards.

LOL at DDX!

I can't go at lunch, unfortunately. Morning is really the only time it can fit. I do a lot of stuff in the evenings. I'm a busy gal.

My shoulder is a little sore today. I should be back at the gym Saturday. I'm going to see Social Distortion with the boys tonight, so I don't think I'll be in any shape to go to the gym tomorrow either.

Lee, going to the gym at lunch is a little tougher for us girls. I'd hate to have to do my hair twice in one day - once is enough for me. If I'm going to the gym, I'm gonna get sweaty, which would require a shower and fixing the hair afterword. There's not enough time in my lunch hour to do all that, and I"m not particularly high maintenance!

Yeah, this week is a bust. I have some intense things going on in my personal life right now. I'm going to call it good that I'm going backpacking this weekend.

I go at lunch and do a quick wash and blow dry. Smiley, with your hair how about just putting it up in a twist???

Actually if I just lift weights I don't rewash my hair. A quick shower keeping my head out of the way works for me.

I work from 9-5 with a 30 minute lunch included in my day. So I would definitely not have time to fit in a workout.

dang 9:00 Am, you have lots of time to go in the mornings. be at the gym by 5:30 or 6:00, do your workout, take a shower and go to work

dhutch, my hair just doesn't work that way, unfortunatly. especially with this new horrible haircut! much too much attention needed. :)

we have weights downstairs in our "workout room" here at work. i should start going down there at lunchtime. i guess there's a bunch of others who do that. if nothing else, i could get a 15 minute walk in on the treadmill, i guess!

Hold Your Horses!
I 'll be headed to GSMNP tomorrow or Sunday. The mountain trails shall be my gymnasium.

I was at the physical fitness place at the opening at 5:30 AM. There were 40 to 50 cars already there. Showered, hit steam room, showered and weighed-in at 233. My knees are so bad that I look for a ramp before trying to go up or down a small curb. We'll see how I compare, when I return in 3-4 months.

Ewker, sleeping.

I hate mornings. Besides the sun doesn't even come up til 6:30 and with the frickin' Spring Forward, it'll be coming up at 7:30. I hate waking up in the dark. It's not natural.

(Seattle is so far north that in winters we have very little daylight. But in June it's light out until 10:30 pm! Sort of like Alaska, but nowhere near as extreme.)

stop staying out till all hours of the night. I mean your not dating (from other thread) so what is keeping you up. Somethings in the morning are good to do.

I guess I require a lot of sleep. I try to go to bed at 9 when I am planning on going to the gym the next day. But the alarm goes off at 6 am, it's dark, I'm totally out like a light. I don't want to get up. At that moment, I'd rather stay in my nice warm comfy bed and go back to dreamland.
One would think 9 hours of sleep would be sufficient!
pixie

everybody has different needs when it comes to sleeping. I go thru cycles where 6 hrs is enough, other times it might be 8.

pixie, i must be like you. i generally need 9 hours to wake up with some sort of willpower. getting up at 5:30 to go to the gym was tough, but i really felt so great all day afterword. still, its a tough thing to do.

most days of the week now, i don't get home until 8 or 9 PM due to class or other errands and working late or homework. i leave ~7:30 in the morning. i'd be happy if i could find time to cook, let alone workout.

SG, that's my problem with evenings too. By the time I get home it's 5:30. If I need to go to the supermarket and/or cook dinner, errands, whatever, I'm eating dinner at 7:30 and by then I'm beat. If I work out late in the evening my night owl-ness kicks in and I can't get to sleep.

No, I really want to go in the morning. It's the best time. I've had a tough week and have been extra busy on top of it. I just couldn't get the workouts in this week. But I'm backpacking and will get some cardio in and start fresh with the workouts next week.

Friday I went after work, but the pool heat was off so I could not swim. Skipped Saturday, but had a great workout Sunday Did mostly chest and arms. Fun to actually see muscle where I have previously had none. Hiring a personal trainer was the right decision. Before I was lifting too much and using bad form. I am pleasantly surprised that lifting less weight at first and really concentrating on form would give such great results. I'll make this 57 y/o body look 50 again soon LOL.

AJ, you said what most of my clients think. "lifting that little bit of weight isn't going to do anything for me." i always have to convince them to listen to me and see how much it hurts tomorrow. i always make sure they hurt tomorrow.
As for my own gym time, I've been doing pretty great. I love having the home gym. I've been on a massive cut lately. Funny thing is, I've only lost a minimal amount of pounds because my body is managing to put on muscle while I'm dieting. That's pretty rare except for someone who is just starting to work out.
I've been doing different cardio sessions every day, and lifting in the evenings 5 days a week. It was he!! getting used to at first but now it's not so bad. I've actually started to love it. Too bad my schedule won't allow it next quarter.
I've been watching Celebrity Fit Club on VH1. Has anyone seen this show? I think it's hilarious. Daniel Baldwin has an addiction relapse right in the middle of the series. It's also got Judge Mablean, Ralphie Mae, who cracks me up, and Biz Markie. there are also some others.

I have been putting on muscle. I can seeit. But I have lost only a little weight. I figure I am losing fat because I am staying the same weight and putting on muscle I can see. I can't see where I am losing fat yet, but I do know my clothes fit better. Also, my trainer gives me a good hard workout, but I have never "hurt" after a workout. I feel where I have worked a muscle and I kow I have worked it, but it never "hurts". That is good because I have arthritis and my Doc says no heavy weights and lots of reps. Well, "heavy" is a relative term. I am getting to where I can lidft much heavier weights than when I started without any pain, just that good post workout "I know I worked that uscle" feeling.

PLUS, my trainer is only 18, but mature beyond his years. He has tken to heart my Doc's warnings about low weight/high reps and is moving me up the weight scale VERY slowly. He is careful about my form and keeps me honest, so I get the maximum result from each workout. So things are going very well so far. I am on track to participate as the swimmer on a three man relay for the Chicago triathlon in August. I figure thats not too shabby for a 57 y/o "old fart".

Well, it's 4:20 and I am off to the gym.

Ok, I'm here.
I'm doing a strength workout tonight after work.
I hiked 19 miles over the weekend, so I was exhausted this morning. I slept a lot! (I never sleep well on the trail, unfortunately. Too cold, too uncomfortable.)
Thanks for asking me to check in.
I'm going to see if I can make it to the gym tomorrow morning. I might be stressed out tho. I found out last week that my mom has a large brain tumor (that was my "intense personal issue" and part of why I was having trouble with workouts last week) and I am taking her for procedures at the hospital tomorrow.

I have no idea where I came up with it. Googled it once and there is a physician in Ireland who wrote a book on health issues when travelling. That was the only one.
