Injuries are no fun. I'm glad you've overcome yours. : )” 1:51:00 PM 5/06/05 “I got on the tread mill Wed night for the 1st time since I did a Jetson off one...that was funny to see I don't like running on a tread mill, rather run the cushioned track. But anyway I set it up for a relaxing walk of 3.5 mph with an incline of 9. Gem, you do a tread mill on an incline what angle do you use?” 2:23:04 PM 5/06/05 “Heck I jack the treadmill incline to the max. Really works the butt!” 2:27:06 PM 5/06/05 “hey pixie...great so you could be coming on the trip huh? Yeah pixie I incline all the way too (15), speed 4 mph for 40 minutes. right now. It's a time thing...I can't spend more then 2 hours at the gym. whats the average time everyone is spending at the gym? Mine is about 2 hours. (that does include cardio)” 2:30:20 PM 5/06/05 “1.5 hrs including cardio” 2:33:59 PM 5/06/05 “1.5-2 with cardio but how many days a week. i average about 2 days week, but I walk 1 mile everyday for lunch then walk 2 in the evening about three days week. Days I don't go to the gym i do push ups, abs, and quadracept presses at home. At home I also take some time for stretching and breathing and do a few weightless squats and leg lifts.” 3:15:08 PM 5/06/05 “5 to 6 days a week right now. this will change after summer to about 4 days a week. i also do core exercise at him and some gymnastic kind a stuff. about 30 minutes every other day.” 3:20:01 PM 5/06/05 “I try to go everyday except Sunday. It never works out that way though. This week I ended up going every other day but didn't do any weights, just did cardio.” 3:36:23 PM 5/06/05 “At this point, I'm aiming for 4 days a week. I decided not to get too strict with myself, so the 4 times could be just cardio or just strength, whatever. Just moving at least 4 times a week. I do get about 15 minutes to and from the bus when I take it. I don't have a lot of time to spend working out on the weekdays, so I am only there for an hour or less.” 4:32:54 PM 5/06/05 “I finally got in for a full workout today. It was my first workout in 2 weeks. I hope I can keep it up . I'm going out with Opie for his bachelor party Saturday night and then my birthday is Monday, but we're going out Sunday for that. I'm feeling hungover already.” 4:41:06 PM 5/06/05 “LOL! Just thinking about it eh? : )” 4:54:16 PM 5/06/05 “Ii went ahead and did the gym thing. That stair climber kicks butt. Since I am so outta shape right now I am NOT doing the 15% incline lol. And I go between 45- 60 minutes at the gym 5 times a week. last edited: 5/06/05 5:06:16 PM” 5:01:41 PM 5/06/05 took it easy this weekend “But back at it tonight.” 1:00:57 PM 5/09/05 “I'm out for awhile. busted up my knee Friday night. : (” 1:17:14 PM 5/09/05 incline on treadmill “if you incline the treadmill DO NOT hang on the bar. It throws your natural walking gait completely out of whack and an really aggravate knee/hip type stuff. You should be able to do whatever you do (elliptical, stairmaster, treadmill etc) WITHOUT hanging on for dear life. a) it supports ou body weight whichs defeats the purpose. b) it can injure you. . . .just saying . .” 1:22:07 PM 5/09/05 “my workout this weekend was a 15.5 mile dayhike in the Smokies :)” 1:22:26 PM 5/09/05 “lee, for those reasons I try not to hold on. I think too it works the balance more to not hold on. If I feel like I need to catch my balance, particularly on the elliptical, I try to only rest my fingers lightly on the bars. Hope you had a nice hike Ewk. : )” 1:39:19 PM 5/09/05 “just came back from my second workout at the gym today. did cardio earlier (yupp..what lee said...do NOT hold on!) I had to get used to it, and still catch myself once in a while holding on very little, but still...got to stop that COMPLETELY. My trainer gave me a new workout routine. Kicking my ass...that's what he's doing.LOL 21's and other butt kickers. Leg alone is now cardio, so I am actually doing from cardio to more cardio. lol well, sort of. :) I am loving this.” 1:45:24 PM 5/09/05 “Lee, some of the elliptcal's come with the bars that you put your hands on, kind of like using trekking poles. Are you saying don't use those also. If not why?? pixie, it was great. Saw lots of wild flowers. Hopefully I can post them in a few days” 1:48:36 PM 5/09/05 “That'd be cool (the pics.) : )” 1:57:54 PM 5/09/05 “Whoops. No Ewk. The ones with the poles that go back and forth and stuff are fine. Great in fact. It is . . ..(look at people in the gym) .. . . .it is the folks who lock their elbows when on a stepper and go ninety mph. they carry a lot of body weight on their arms. Certainly resting your hands lightly for balance or what-have-you is fine. Or using the ski poly thingys. It is the distortion of natural motion that I was trying to highlight. That is . . .if you are going so fast, or at such a steep incline that you have to "hang on", then you are probably contorting your natural motion . . .which could contribute to wear and tear type injuries (and also isn't giving you the type of workout you think you are getting).” 3:46:43 PM 5/09/05 Pixie What did you DO? “Pixie: How did you screw up the knee? are you accident prone?” 4:10:54 PM 5/09/05 “Only around drunken Kung Fu fighters...” 4:12:52 PM 5/09/05 “I am accident prone, but this accident was not my fault. I find it's pretty hard to not fall down when someone is holding onto your leg so that you can't stand/walk on it... : p” 4:32:52 PM 5/09/05 “sounds like Pixie was getting kinky ;)” 4:36:54 PM 5/09/05 “Um, NO!” 6:26:27 PM 5/09/05 Pixie . . .. “Sorry to hear that. Heal fast an well, Grasshopper. Then get back to the gym again” 9:03:24 AM 5/10/05 Great news! “For me, that is. I finally experienced some significant progress on my last hike. My legs were stronger and my endurance was greater. My trip has not been very fruitful because of rain. I don't like to hike in the rain. This morning I walked out of my gym(the forest) from CS#60 on Deep Creek easily and in good time, 1 hr. 42 min. And the previous two days between CS#60 and #59 went exceptionally well with hiking time reduces by a couple of hours each way. However, the next three weeks will delay my efforts as I prepare and travel NW to my daughter's graduation and some visiting. But I'm looking forward to a great June of backpacking in my gym, the GSMNP.” 11:46:05 AM 5/10/05 “Hooray nowslimmer! Thanks everyone for the well wishes. My knee is much less swollen today. I actually have some contour to my knee now and I can bend it a lot more. Yay!” 11:52:08 AM 5/10/05 Sure Pixie . . . . . “but it's NOT supposed to bend forward like that. LOL Glad you are feeling better.” 12:26:37 PM 5/10/05 “hee hee. Thanks!” 12:33:32 PM 5/10/05 “yeah...don't overdo it pixie... it's a slow way to recovery... Glad it's better though. Still got to go to the gym today. it's gonna be cardio and upper body. I actually am a little bit sore today from yesterdays new workout. Pain sure can feel good huh? LMAO My trainer said he's gonna get me ready to climb the high mtns in CA, and to kick ENS's butt on the next hike. hahahahahahaha j/k...really!! j/k last edited: 5/10/05 12:35:59 PM” 12:35:26 PM 5/10/05 “My workout plans for tonight. Going home... grabbing some cigars and my pack of smokes. Heading to the golf course walking 9 holes of golf. Head home and throw down a beer and maybe had a cigarette. Afterwards do some laundry. I have the whole evening planned out ;) It takes a lot of work to keep this girlish figure :/” 12:38:51 PM 5/10/05 “DDX! Quit smoking!” 1:20:55 PM 5/10/05 “I've been lazy for the past two weeks. I did go to the gym today, got my 5k meter time down to 21m29s and still holding at 224lbs.” 3:02:59 PM 5/10/05 “Damn smokers don't know what REAL fun is! send me over a beer, will ya? hmm...I may go to the store and get me a beer.” 3:33:03 PM 5/10/05 “Ooooooooh! I am so sore! I started weight training this week along with two days of "movement." I fell on my butt rollerblading so even my butt hurts. I'm going to hit the treadmill tonight to loosen up these sore muscles. I could hardly lift my arms to wash my hair after my first work out. LOL” 8:59:07 PM 5/14/05 “yikes...maybe slow down a bit or your going to burn yourself out. I think I actually need to step up my workout. I tried to do some cardio today but ended up coughing so much I couldnt even breath :( damn cough....damn co-workers who gave me the dreaded coughing disese!” 9:03:07 PM 5/14/05 “I tried going to the gym today but could only manage some weights as I still freakin cant breath. I cant get any freakin air in my lungs without coughing like a maniac :( stupid pleuge :(” 4:40:55 PM 5/15/05 “so I went to the gym last night kicking and screaming...did my cardio and wow... 45 minutes uphill at 15 incline...didnt' even break a sweat. I had to run the last 10 minutes. Nice. I like to see progress like that. Finished with legs and abs. Today: upper body (yuck!!!) I hate upper body workouts.” 8:15:11 AM 5/17/05 Gemini try this .. . . . “My Pers. Tr. has me doing jack knifes with a medicine ball. Lay on back on mat, hold arms straight back overhead and grasp ten pound medicine ball. At the same time raise arms and legs till feet and hands point toward ceiling and back down, BUT do not touch the floor. Then back up. Repeat 20 times (then run to sink and vomit LOL). Three sets last night. My tummy gonna be so sore LOL. But really it's all good. I hurt a little now and then, but I am surprised at how much I can do.” 8:52:44 AM 5/17/05 “Getting in shape feels awesome doesn't it! My belly is all but gone and I'm starting to see a six pack again. Woo Hoo! My biggest need now is cardio. Going to start hitting the running and biking hard. Swimming as soon as it gets a little warmer!” 8:55:11 AM 5/17/05 “the only six pack I've seen in years is at the liquor store.. I think I've got a pony barrel now....LOL!” 8:58:34 AM 5/17/05 6 pack “I have NEVER had a six pack and do not expect to. BUT, my tummy is getting smaller as arms, legs, chest, back get bigger. Just feeling like I am walking around w/o another person on my back is worth it.” 9:09:30 AM 5/17/05 “I'm a 46 yr old desk jockey that got lazy. I'm active on the weekends, but during the week, nothing, until 10 weeks ago I'm 5'11" and was weighing in at 272. I finally got to a point where I couldn't stand it anymore. Started treadmilling, biking, hiking and eating less. I'm down to 255 now and I get stronger with every mile. I do an hour of the hamster in the wheel routine 5 of 7 days a week. (treadmill), I lift 3 days a week and then some sort activity on the weekends with the kids. My goal is 200 and I'm determined to get there over the course of the next year.” 10:35:25 AM 5/17/05 Pakratz . . . “Good for you. I know where you are coming from. I am 57 and was 215. I should be about 175. Now down to 198. Keep it up. You will love the "new you" and so will your kids.” 11:06:01 AM 5/17/05 “AJ, don't believe all the reports saying what you should weigh at a certain height.” 11:20:17 AM 5/17/05 “Ewker's right. I mean look at Sarge's little sister. She's small but still whoops him. LOL!” 11:21:19 AM 5/17/05 “lol@Nigal” 11:24:50 AM 5/17/05 “according to the government chart im death waiting to happen. in reality im a pretty healthy guy. i think those charts are for people with enough muscle to drive a car.” 11:37:18 AM 5/17/05 Jump to Page << prev
