"Ensure that your carbohydrate intake comes from fruits and vegetables."

I would change this to "Ensure that your carb intake mainly comes from fruits and vegs."
Or to "from fruits, vegs and whole grains."

There are nutrients in grains that are very important to brain function that cannot be found in fruits, vegs or meats.

And too much protein is bad for your kidneys. Just be sure to note when folks say to "up your protein" it really means to be sure to have protein with each of your meals/mini-meals. Balance is key. You mentioned that you think you may eat "too much" Ensuring that each time you eat that you get a balance of protein and carbs will prevent cravings that lead to overeating.

Mini meals: Don't have to be complicated.

Make a whole sandwich, eat half for equiv of 2 meals with some carrot sticks or other veg/fruit.
Or pretty much any regular size meal, split it into 2 meals. It doesn't have to be something different every meal.
Etc.

you can normally tell if you over do protein if your sweat smells like pee (no kidding)
Gemini

Can't say that's happened to me. But good to know!
I did some research on protein intake and while tracking my food intake and nutritents on www.fitday.com, I noticed that I was getting twice the protein I needed. Since I've had some trouble with my kidneys, it was an interesting discovery for me.

I like fitdays.com I bougth their program. I also like calorieking.com (their software is fast too use...not so much detail)

it depends what you want.
http://bodybuilding.com is a awesome site if you you find your way around in there. most of them are hardcore bodybuilders but their articles and info is great.

gem, i also read bodybuilding.com.

some of their articles are good, but some are really bad too. i think alot of them are written by teenage kids.

nothing wrong with teens, i'm sure some are very knowledgable, but i've seen some that still prescribe to spot reduction for christs sake!

lol, here's one! i just started scanning a few articles. this was the third one i got to.

heehee...
you know years ago I had trainers telling me I can do that.

I think {I Hope} they are talking more about the competetive aspect of it (havent' read evertything) if you have weak abs... you would train the abs...you have weak gluts, you train the gluts harder.

That's not what they say thou...They make it sound like any bodyshape can be changed with cardio...witch is a bunch of bull.

I tell you what they are trying to do...they are trying to sell their products. They after all a ecommerce site. That's what pays their bills. LOL

very true.

you'll also notice than most of the articles make it sound like supplements are as important as your workout!

whatta joke that is

Supplements! Bah! I got suckered into those. Did nothing but upset my stomach! They didn't do anything they were supposedly for, like building muscle tone, relieving muscle pain or help me lose fat or gain energy.
pixie

only supplement I take right now is a nitric oxide stimulator. I actually really feel a difference.

(try an asprin before workout...wont' give you energy, but should get your blood flowing)

I don't take any protein supplements, I shuff down the egg whites, tuna, white chicken meat...

I used to take creatine, but stopped.
I did try grow hormones before...but they cost a lot and really don't do much unless you inject them (and then they cost even more)

I used to spend hundreds of dollars back in germany on supplements, the newest amino accid products... I didnt' see much more result back than then right now. And the little more result probably had something to do that I almost lived in the gym back then.

I don't have the time for that anymore and simply dont' want to either. anyways...I ain't doing it for huge muscle mass anymore. I now just want stay in shape and dont' get fat/fatter. That's a huge difference.

to get this exactly right, it's almost a science, eat this, take that, on those days... after/before work outs... this works for you better/ or that will work for me better...yada yada yada..

heck no! Been there, done that!

John Ritter wasn't gay! He played a gay guy in Three's Company. He was on his second marriage (to a woman) when he died. He's got kids too.

Regarding the first body builder lady: Not even the cute shoes she's wearing can save her. Icky!

sacco, just saw this:
“supplements can really help you lose weight in your butt.

Too true! LOL!
And shakes. I like the EAS Body For Life ones. I bought all that crap with my stupid supplements, but the shakes are a keeper. Great for when I'm on the run or don't feel like cooking up a breakfast. And I like how they taste. AND! They have them at Wally World.

whooohoooo.... I think I killed myself today.
this is sick!! I did 55 minutes of cardio, legs and abs today.

300 reps of ab exercise... actually that's normal i guess, but it sounds like a lot if you add them all up together.

I did well today too! I ran 3 miles, walked 20 mins on the treadmill, and took a boxing class. It kicked my ass and I will def be sore tomorrow!

Damn it feels good to work out hard!

Yeah Gem, it is tons of fun. It is lots of cardio with arm and shoulder toning. We use the bag and we spar each other and jump a lot of rope.

I boxed a couple of times when I was young, dumb, and stupid. It's amazing how good of shape you need to be in to box. After 4-5 rounds of keeping your hands up to defend yourself while trying to punch someone your arms start to feel like Jello.

Boxing is how I broke my ACL. Didn't even get hit, did it to myself. Stupid! It is a great workout though. Gem, you don't have to get into the ring, the workout alone is worth it. I taught martial arts when I was younger. Never got a serious injury. Broke my leg in soccer though, imagine that. If you go to the right school, martial arts will teach you to control your anger, to turn from the dark side. Oh, sorry ... just got back from Episode III. n/m
Sarge

Gem, its not about anger for me in that class. We dont actually fight each other, we just go through the motions of the boxing techniques and a wee bit of the training. It is just a fun workout class - nothing serious or professional, although the instructor is a professional fighter.

I haven't been much at all the last few weeks with the new house, annual trip with friends to the beach, and learning how to be a do-it-yourselfer. Today I make my glorious reappearance at the ghetto Y. I'll prolly only spend an hour or 90 minutes there today. I hope I don't die!

Not a bad workout. I didn't lose as much strength or endurance as I thought. I did lose lots of definition though. Hopefully the next month will put me back in operationg form. Bad news - all my supplements are running low. It sucks to shell out that kinda money all at once.
