I cna't make it without TV or my mp3 on cardio. I wouldn't last 5 minutes.” 12:36:52 PM 6/03/05 “Yeah, I was thinking if I had a Nordic Track at home in front of my tv, I could exercise for hours! LOL! I love the Nordic Track. It's fun! It's just such a huge piece of equipment.” 1:05:22 PM 6/03/05 “i can't understand those people reading on the treadmill. to each thier own and all, but HTH can you be gettin a decent workout while reading a magazine???” 1:07:16 PM 6/03/05 “sacco - Just wanted to point out that you and I agree on something. Time to call a truce for the day. Never did understand how you can get a good workout reading a magazine. I don't understand that either.” 1:09:39 PM 6/03/05 “All the equipment at my gym has little headphone jacks you can plug your headphones into and listen to either what is on the TV or various radio stations.” 1:11:54 PM 6/03/05 “screw you sarge, that was a trap! i workout everyday whilst reading my copy of "the manifesto" HAHA ya dam fascist!” 1:12:57 PM 6/03/05 “LOL! sacco and Sarge! DDX, you go to a gym? I thought all you did was golf and an occasional bike ride. LOL! I got a kick out of what they had on at 24 Hr yesterday eve, btw. The choices: Wheel of Fortune, Oprah, or Krull the Conquerer on Sci Fi! LOL! Kevin Sorbo is so icky....” 1:57:53 PM 6/03/05 “Blasted! I should have known!” 1:59:05 PM 6/03/05 “i just had an awesome workout. it always helps when you have something to be mad at. im pretty sure i got burned by my girlfriend a while ago and im just finding out about it. if that's not a reason to be mad i don't know what is. for a while there i was shaking i was so mad so i decided to use it. i definitely just caused muscle growth.” 2:40:28 PM 6/03/05 “I didn't say I actually GOTO the gym. I am a member though :D It's really nice actually. I should go more often but I find all the little hot coeds too distracting.” 3:10:25 PM 6/03/05 “came back from my daily gym visit...starting to wonder...why does he want me to do each rep 15 times, then go to to the next upper body exerise until I completed all of them...and repeat the 'circle' to a total of 3 sets. why can't i do my 3 sets of bench press, then dips....etc, then continue to whatever is next.....??? What's the difference? not doing 21's right now :( why not??? I like 21's!” 7:02:24 PM 6/06/05 “i think his method keeps you from burning out as fast - but isn't as good for a good pump maybe if you're just getting back into it he wants you to take it easy - which wouldn't be that bad - then when you are back in the swing - go for it?” 7:07:07 PM 6/06/05 “I dont' think so...I see a lot of people doing it that way in there. Not sure why he wants us to do it this way then. so i could do my 3 reps then continue to the next set hmmm... I actually lift more then he estimated. Only problem I have is triceps... I hate triceps...you can tell I always slacked in doing triceps. I do feel like i get a much better workout if I do my 3 sets then go on to the next set. yeah...I'll go for it. Thanks!” 7:18:31 PM 6/06/05 “i use my own gym equipment at home for weights, but i do go the the gym for some cardio b/c they have equipment i don't have - and one theory is .... I noticed the gym trainers are sometimes big on keeping you moving - that is - they don't want you to hog a machine for too long - just another thought ... Not sure why you disagreed with the "don't burn out as fast" theory.?” 7:24:52 PM 6/06/05 “oh...no...i didnt' really disagree...i just don't think that it's because I am just starting. it didn't take me long to get back in track...but who knows... the gym isn't really very crowded, so maybe it IS the don't burn out as fast factor...but I don't know why... don't i want to burn out? today I felt like it was a real easy workout...if I so each set as a whole I feel like I have done some work... yeah i guess that's a burnout...but i like that feeling of getting my ass kicked at the gym.” 7:39:01 PM 6/06/05 “agreed - Don't get me wrong, trainers are awesome for beginners or people who need motivation, but watching some of the workouts I see them put the new guys through, you just know they aren't going to get anywhere with that routine. You sound like a self-motivator, and from what I've read, you've "been there, done that". Maybe instead of a trainer you need a workout partner - one who is serious. It's just so hard to find one that will keep to the same schedule. Good luck Gem.” 7:42:28 PM 6/06/05 “thanks sarge, yeah...it's hard to find someone on the same schedule. I had workout partners in germany, but never here in the states. maybe it's time to find one. we'll see... i don't understand how I can get a good workout bench pressing by myself anyways... I have to have a partner for that if I want to really feel the burn there.” 7:46:00 PM 6/06/05 “so i went to the gym today...and talked to the trainer...like you said sarge...you'll get a much bigger burn if you do your 3 sets one after the other. He was okay with it and so I did... Felt so much better...legs is getting pretty easy thou, but I need someone to help me with squats on the last set if I add weights... sort of sucks. what do you guys think of some of the max. your results articles on bodybuilding.com?? I mean there will be a time when I don't have to do a lot of cardio anymore, the time my body fat will be down to hmm...15% or so [okay...so maybe not...but i'll try my best] then I will have to go for at least a little more mass so I don't look like skin and bones...[still VERY far from that time..another 6 month or so maybe even a year] here is one of those articles: http://bodybuilding.com/fun/james1.htm sounds like a quick workout...and I am wondering about his statement to train one muscle [not muscle group] only every 5 to 6 days... sort of makes sense in a way...but sort of don't. I did not notice Tim giving me a new schedule every hmmm 2 weeks...he changed my complete workout around. Upper body workout is pretty much the same muscles {only different workouts}. Legs I noticed he rotates quads and glutes/hamstrings. I dont' know why he's doing that...but hey...it does seam to work. but I don't want my quats to disapear in those 2 weeks either. dang, that was a long post...but I ask him part...and forget about the other part...hate that!!” 9:15:07 PM 6/07/05 “gem - That is my 3rd favorite website. I do agree with his plan (the link you provided), and that particular workout method is my favorite. That being said, I'd add 3 things. 1. Just about any change-up in workout will give you some results, as long as it's a reasonable workout. That might answer your question above about Tim. 2. Personally, that workout will burn me out after a few months. I personally have to mix it up and switch to a less intense workout or a different routine. 3. Everybody is different. Make sure to listen to your body. Oh, and one more thing - get sacco in on these conversations. From what I've seen of his pics, and either he's hiding some good advice, or he's on synthol. j/k” 9:23:29 PM 6/07/05 “thanks Sarge! damn...I wish you guys would live in Columbia. LOL SACCO...were are YOUUUUUU???????? so he's buff huh?? have never seen any pictures.” 9:33:25 PM 6/07/05 complete diet and workout program “http://www.abcbodybuilding.com/13weekstohardcorefatburningdiet.php http://www.abcbodybuilding.com/13weekfatburningworkout.php last edited: 6/07/05 9:37:21 PM” 9:36:55 PM 6/07/05 “there are already a few things in that bodybuilding.com article that are just silly. for instance, the more experienced you are, the less sets you will need? what a bunch of crap! and 6 sets of 4-6 reps per body part. another load of crap. the 4-6 rep range primarily causes a neurological response. it doesn't do much for muscle hypertrophy. it will make you stronger though. why would you totally cut out hypertrophic and endurance rep/set schemes? a little hint, if a program says to only incorporate one style of lifting, it's no good. accomodation doesn't take long, variation is the key to keeping your body on it's toes. there really isn't much good that comes from bb.com” 9:43:42 PM 6/07/05 “that's is a cool site. I found it a couple month ago or so, but never had time to check it in details. thanks! :)” 9:59:38 PM 6/07/05 “gem, supersetting (going from 1 excerise to another like that) has some advantages it can be good to shorten your workout. especially when you mix in a compound exercise and an isolation for a different part. ex)lets say you want to do your legs and biceps. if you do 3 or 4 sets of squats in a row than you'll have to wait a while for decent recovery between sets, but if you mix curls in between squat sets it's a great time saver. another good reason to superset is to target one specific area. oops - boss walked in, i got an errand to run. i'll be back (in best arnie voice)” 8:32:18 AM 6/08/05 “see I remember the word "supersets" why I don't know because I worked out in germany and supersets is an english word. I tell ya though, damn I can't remember any of this...we did our workout and that was that!! Maybe I just forgot? Thanks thou...u don't wanna move to SC huh? I need a workout partner. anyone??? LMAO i want to stand on my fat meassure scale but I am scared. arrrgggg!!! LMAO I think I'll wait. last edited: 6/08/05 8:55:59 AM” 8:55:32 AM 6/08/05 “ok. after reading that article i (god forbid) agree with what sarge said. 1. Just about any change-up in workout will give you some results, as long as it's a reasonable workout. That might answer your question above about Tim. besides everybody being different, various parts of your body are too. for example, i've found i can get quite a workout and make great progress with my legs and chest with just 3 or 4 very intense sets of pretty low reps (4-6) no way i can get a good workout with my back unless i'm in the 8-10 rep range. the amount of rest you need between body parts also varies greatly. for most people, your lower back needs much more recovery time than say, your biceps or abs. so saying 5-7 days rest is quite a sweeping generalization. i also agree with sarge on PTs. i have a couple friends who do it for a living, but i've seen too many crappy ones to believe in them much. even the good ones can only go by what you tell them. i think you're better off saving your money and doing your own research. the exceptions would be for total newbies, to help you with your form, or for people with injuries. as far as benching, gem, ever try dumbells? once you get the hang of them you can push yourself much better without worrying about getting stuck under a bar. they're also much safer for your shoulders (rotator cuffs) decline dumbell presses actually recruit the more fibers than any other chest exercise.” 1:50:18 PM 6/08/05 “oh ya, and thanks sarge, but i'm not buff. i used to be but when i dumped the pack-a-day habbit a few years ago i gained 3" on my waist in the blink of an eye. now i'd say i'm just really stocky. i still haven't been able to lose that fat i gained. my problem is my diet. i wrestled from when i could walk through the army. when i got out of the army and stopped wrestling i said no more of that dieting chit. i eat like a cow. a beer drinking, chocolate and pizza loving cow. last edited: 6/08/05 1:59:11 PM” 1:58:07 PM 6/08/05 “Must'a been old pics! Just kidding about the synthol.” 2:00:20 PM 6/08/05 “i know you were kiddin, what pics BTW? oh ya, one more thing about that article - dead lifts are great but i never understood why so many people, even "expert" writers consider them a back workout. they hit your hams and your glutes mainly. good for your erectors too, but i still wouldn't call them a back exercise. i do them on leg day.” 2:05:10 PM 6/08/05 got an ab wheel thing... “last week and started using it...wow...my abs hurt like he11. Also started canoeing so, the upper body is cranking out every weekend...lifting gear in and out of the canoe is a work out too. bending, lifting, swimming, pounding in tarp stakes...cutting fire wood...yep, working out is great.” 2:06:53 PM 6/08/05 “sacco - "i know you were kiddin, what pics BTW?" ![]() Sorry, I now realize that is actually an older picture of you. last edited: 6/08/05 2:11:15 PM” 2:10:37 PM 6/08/05 “That's my kinda gym!” 2:11:44 PM 6/08/05 “Sass - His name isn't Gym. It's Gregg.” 2:13:04 PM 6/08/05 “oh that one. ya, i was hitting the synth pretty hard back then.” 2:14:07 PM 6/08/05 “i like this guys articles http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/undercover.htm not really about training, but interesting. he loves ripping on some of the guys using tons of synth.” 2:16:53 PM 6/08/05 “Regarding Gem's workout. Gem, were they the same body part? Like a set of 3 different exercises for the bicep? Because I read somewhere it is good to change up like that to challenge the muscle in a different way. Sort of like the Body For Life technique does something similar. After lunch, I'm going to read those links ductape posted. I need to burn body fat. I'm at a decent weight. I don't need to lose weight. I'm so messed up. I want my foot to be better. : (” 2:25:41 PM 6/08/05 “LMAO...right!!!!!! [talking about the pic] Thanks for the info...so a minimum of 8 to10 reps. I am at 15 right now...not sure 15..i always thought if you can do over 12 it's too light...but hey...whatever he does it is working... i am building muscles like crazy. oh..it's not a personal trainer...i am not paying..he's the owner of the gym and does help everytime he writes a new plan for me...that's all. pixie: i know about the rotation of exercise for each body part...but I am used to, if i work on my legs' to work on quads and hamstrings, gluts...all in one session and not 2 or 3 weeks later... but again...it is somehow working...so i should not be complaining. well...legs...bigger muscle so it's not as ovious then my arm and shoulder and abs muscles. they are pretty damn ovious. also: I have only 2 leg exercises right now...besides the one where i just sit leanign on a wall. (which completely sucks and hurts me like hell...but who cares) I think I should have at least one more 2 more leg exercices. 2 isn't enough.” 2:47:49 PM 6/08/05 “what two leg exercises do you do gem?” 2:55:36 PM 6/08/05 “There are a variety of lunges and squats you could do. Like the curtsy lunge. Instead of stepping out in front you step behind your weight bearing leg and lunge. Or the Egyptian squat, where you stand one foot in front of the other, hip width apart, like on train tracks, then turn the upper body to the side and squat. Squats with one leg on a ball off to the side, etc. Of course there are all the leg machines. But it sounds like the trainer/gym owner fellow has you doing some specific plan. Ok, I'm off to read ductape's articles now. : )” 3:41:00 PM 6/08/05 “Ok, I didn't get far in that article. No fruit allowed? WTF!? I don't believe in omitting perfectly nutritious foods. Especially when fruit is at it's prime and getting better everday this time of year. Fo-Get-It!” 3:43:50 PM 6/08/05 “No fruit allowed? What sort of Masochistic diets do you fruitcakes do?!?!?!? I'm glad I don't watch what I eat or really work out very much *pats his belly*” 3:52:38 PM 6/08/05 “i just ignored that part about the fruit. those people are total hardcore freakazoids. since fructose restores liver glycogen stores and not muscle glycogen it was omitted because you only get a certain number of calories so you want them all to go to restoring muscle glycogen. you don't have to take everything at it's word. the basic principles are what's important.” 3:58:27 PM 6/08/05 “i eat my fruit..and they can kiss my booty. it's the sugar they want you to get away from. i feel if i don't have sugar i crave it more... forget that the no fruit part. a apple a day keeps the doctor away. heehee” 4:01:12 PM 6/08/05 “No... an apple a day with Nutella on it. YUMMY!” 4:27:28 PM 6/08/05 “who had to rub in the nutella again?? you only know about nutella because I had to educate all of you...so hush!” 4:28:47 PM 6/08/05 “the workout has only one day of cardio is focused on super bulking up. So I think I'll stick with my reg workout . However, the diet plan is interesting. They are using calorie cycling. Anyone tried this? It might be the change I need to get where I want.” 4:31:40 PM 6/08/05 “i heard about calorie cycling... not sure what to think of it... i think bodybuilding.com has an article on it too. i have it laying around somewhere, but not gonna look for it now.” 4:47:05 PM 6/08/05 “Well, I think I might try it. So I'll let you know what I think. That is, if I can stay on it and not poop out on counting calories. (blech)” 4:56:13 PM 6/08/05 “ewwww....why did I click on this thread while eating??? whhhaaaaaaaa!!! It never fails!!!” 5:10:30 PM 6/08/05 “I've heard the curtsy lunge is good, but I'll be damned if I'm going to call it that!! Maybe the "kick your a$$ lunge" or the "glutimous to the freaking MAXimous lunge", but not the curtsy lunge!” 5:47:37 PM 6/08/05 Jump to Page << prev
