Since both Senators teams left town, they need a different name.

Off the cuff ideas:

The Deficits
The Evil Doers
The Deep Throats
The Plumbers
The Interns
The Bureaucrats

Help me out here folks ...

Greys, after the old Negro League team.

ESPN did a poll last night, Senators was the most popular choice, however the Texas Rangers own the rights to that name.

Remember the old saying:

Washington, first in war, first in peace, last in the National League.

They could call themselves the Bushies but they’d strike out every time because they would try to preemptively strike the ball. Which is of little consequence because they’d only have a plan as to how to get on first or second but not one on how to get home.

I'm not sure a major league team would want to be labled bush. But the reasoning sounds good. The more they screwed up on the field the more fans would come to see them. They'd be the most popular team in baseball.

The team should be named for the individuals most responsible for them ending up where they are now.

They will be playing at RFK for a few years until the new stadium is built on the SE waterfront.

Mostly warehouse but "some" residents will be dislocated.

This is the perfect opportunity for the experiment that I've been advocating for many years. We all know that some people, including myself, think that DC's football team name (Redskins) is deragatory. However, I have an open mind, and am willing to accept that maybe I'm being too sensitive. So here's what we do. We select a team name for the baseball team that some people would consider a deragatory name of a racial group, while others might say is representative of the proud history of that group. Then wait to see if there's a reaction. Big outcry = change both team names. No outcry = leave the Redskins name alone and either keep the baseball team name or not, whatever. DC has a large African-American population, so that might be the source of an appropriate experimental team name. Whaddya think?

2. Tending to detract or diminish.

Well, technically, "Redskins" is simply a word describing the tone of many Native Americans' skin color, so is not literally a negative term. So one option might be The Coloreds - it's descriptive, and some could argue that it recalled a time of civil rights struggles for African-Americans. Others would argue that "colored" was a put-down that white folks used to describe them. I dunno....

Anybody want the stadium? Up here we call it the 'Big Owe' because of cost overruns in its construction and because it's still not paid for.

We're good at messing up up here.

Well, geo, one of my points is that African-Americans often complain, rightfully so, about discrimination and put-downs because of their race. But doesn't it seem strange that that community in DC isn't outraged by their own football team's name? As I said, maybe I'm just being too sensitive, and if so, I'll be the first to admit it.
BowlderMan

Grem, I don't think you could give that stadium to a rookie league team. But it was sad to see the fans holding up signs at the end of the last game. Montreal got rooked big time.
Geobeet

Others would also suggest that "colored" isn't derogatory at all, since the foremost civil rights organization in the US is called the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

Personally, I think that naming the team after the old Negro League team would be great.

Dang Fritz, ya beat me to it.

Expose's

The Redskins started as the Boston Redskins and moved to Washington in '37.

I still think Washington Warriors would be good......"Hail to the Redskins.......FIGHT, for old D.C."

In the '60s they had the "Spear Chucker" logo on the helmet.
It resembles the Florida State(?) spear and feather.

Warriors makes no reference to race and the "Spear Chucker" logo comes from the glory days of Sonny Jurgensen and company.

That would go nicely with Warriors

I like...
