“for sure. I'll bring along an extra 0* mummy bag - It's a Coleman (no snide remarks please) and weighs between 3 and 4 lbs. It's also a "long" - fits anyone up to 6'6". But it'll be along for the trip in case someone might need it.

MarkO, techntrek and I should be at Dahlgren right around 4 PM or so. This way we can get set up while it's still daylight. We also plan on having supper at a restaurant Friday night - no extra food to pack, no prep, no cleanup, so anyone who wants to come along to supper can join us. Depends on how late everyone plans to arrive.

“I remember that steep climb - I think in the Thru-Hiker's Companion it listed it as the steepest section in MD. I remember following the powerlines, going up that kick-your-butt-incline along the gas line, than back out to cross the same powerline. Pissed me off. Why the heck didn't the trail just stay on the (gently sloping) powerline? Doesn't matter now since it isn't on the route. Glad its gone!”

“Spring last year AT got rerouted in that area and now it crosses Route77 .6 mile (i.e., point 6 mile) EAST of the Gun Club. There are no parking and no pullover spaces near the crossing. You can try but shoulders are quite narrow and cars move fast on that stretch. Another option is to leave your car at the gun club, if that’s OK with them, and walk .6 miles west on Route77 to your car (if you are northbound on AT).

I visit that area every spring to monitor some rare flowers along AT.”
