Don't forget that alcoholic mouthwash.” 10:36:42 AM 1/10/05 “Latest forecast below. Still 65 on Thurs, but back to WINTER temps on Friday - as someone already mentioned. I think some handwarmer packs will be in order. :-) Squilax, if you are picking others up, will that put my p/u later? Not a problem for me, I'll just stay signed-in at work longer. Forecast for the weekend: Friday: Mostly cloudy, with a high around 40. Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low near 19. Saturday: Partly cloudy, with a high near 31. Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 13. Sunday: Partly cloudy, with a high near 29.” 12:53:43 PM 1/10/05 “Bump - info please, who's still going?” 1:48:38 PM 1/10/05 “yeah peeps, give us the 411.” 1:49:59 PM 1/10/05 “hmm, that would be a 8 hour trip for me (488 miles) still thinking...” 1:54:58 PM 1/10/05 “not the speed you drive at Gem.” 1:59:20 PM 1/10/05 “i don't drive fast. remember...i'll have to drive through VA.” 2:03:11 PM 1/10/05 “So, is this a dog-friendly trip?” 2:04:18 PM 1/10/05 “Unless your dog is sleeping inside your bag with you, I wouldn't recommend it. 13 degrees Saturday night.” 2:11:19 PM 1/10/05 “Yeah, I worried about that, but he is an alaskan malamute, so he should be good.” 2:12:53 PM 1/10/05 “He had a real spring in his step when it hit 9 degrees here a few weeks ago. last edited: 1/10/05 2:18:03 PM” 2:13:39 PM 1/10/05 ““So, is this a dog-friendly trip?” y2 2:04:18 PM 1/10/05 Is this a friendly dog? Malamute? Hell yes, he'll have no problem with the cold!” 2:16:23 PM 1/10/05 “oh gosh...there it goes again the old sleeping bag problem. I may just try my bag and see how it goes. I have a liner and a small downblanket I can bring with me. Or a second bag...hmmm.. what u all think? [in case i am going]” 2:19:48 PM 1/10/05 “Yeah, he's v friendly Marco, here he is looking cute. http://www.thebackpacker.com/pictures/pic/kckbr4vwhk9.php The only thing I'm worried about is having to keep him on the leash all the time. He sees something he wants to chase and he'll be gone.” 2:20:46 PM 1/10/05 “Gem, I can lend you my WM highlight to go inside ya versalite. MY versalite should be enough for me at those temps. Only thing is that it's a 6ft 6 one, you might get lost inside. last edited: 1/10/05 2:28:55 PM” 2:22:04 PM 1/10/05 “Double-bagging should work fine. If anyone needs a good, warm jacket - check out the Gear Find thread. Mountain Hard Wear Phantom on sale. Still enough time to get it to your front door for this trip.” 2:24:56 PM 1/10/05 “Hey, just let Killer go out and run us down some 'possums and woodchucks and we'll have us a barbeque!” 2:27:58 PM 1/10/05 “He tried to take off after a deer and some horses last time I took him to the Shenendoah - he's nothing if not ambitious.” 2:29:50 PM 1/10/05 “A horse might feed this gang.” 2:30:48 PM 1/10/05 “hmmm, how much does your bag weigh Y2? degrees?? I may just double bag. I do have the phantom. Nice jacket, but expensive.” 2:32:54 PM 1/10/05 “it's just a lightweight summer bag Gem, but it's perfect to go inside a versalite, Weights 1llb.” 2:37:21 PM 1/10/05 “Gemini, are you really going on this one?” 2:41:28 PM 1/10/05 “oh wow...yes bring it just in case. MarkO, I don't know. I want to very, very bad. I will try my best to go. Right now it's only a 60%/ 40% chance (60% on my side)” 2:43:13 PM 1/10/05 “60%.......yay!! You want that silver Kelty bag?? ....for the weekend, that is.” 2:46:46 PM 1/10/05 “u going too? damn, who is all going? I don't know...hmm...i think I may wanna try Y2's bag, this way I can figure out if mine would work in those temps. If it gets too cold i'll add y2's bag. thanks though :) still need to think about this though...the complete trip is only 10 miles?? well better then nothing i guess. last edited: 1/10/05 2:51:11 PM” 2:48:31 PM 1/10/05 “We'll find some way to keep ya warm gem ;o)” 2:51:38 PM 1/10/05 I'll be there “for sure. I'll bring along an extra 0* mummy bag - It's a Coleman (no snide remarks please) and weighs between 3 and 4 lbs. It's also a "long" - fits anyone up to 6'6". But it'll be along for the trip in case someone might need it. MarkO, techntrek and I should be at Dahlgren right around 4 PM or so. This way we can get set up while it's still daylight. We also plan on having supper at a restaurant Friday night - no extra food to pack, no prep, no cleanup, so anyone who wants to come along to supper can join us. Depends on how late everyone plans to arrive. last edited: 1/10/05 3:03:08 PM” 3:02:19 PM 1/10/05 “on a serious note... please everyone...send me your cell phone numbers. bison, embear, I still have yours. i don't have scorches anymore because...hmm...don't know why...i think her old number dosnt' work anymore?? not sure yam, are you going too?” 3:06:03 PM 1/10/05 “"A question about the re-route. Where exactly has the re-routing been done? Around Lamb's Knoll?" from highway 77 to the powerline” 3:16:22 PM 1/10/05 “I remember that steep climb - I think in the Thru-Hiker's Companion it listed it as the steepest section in MD. I remember following the powerlines, going up that kick-your-butt-incline along the gas line, than back out to cross the same powerline. Pissed me off. Why the heck didn't the trail just stay on the (gently sloping) powerline? Doesn't matter now since it isn't on the route. Glad its gone!” 3:21:25 PM 1/10/05 AT Rerouted near Gun Club “Spring last year AT got rerouted in that area and now it crosses Route77 .6 mile (i.e., point 6 mile) EAST of the Gun Club. There are no parking and no pullover spaces near the crossing. You can try but shoulders are quite narrow and cars move fast on that stretch. Another option is to leave your car at the gun club, if that’s OK with them, and walk .6 miles west on Route77 to your car (if you are northbound on AT). I visit that area every spring to monitor some rare flowers along AT.” 3:54:00 PM 1/10/05 “i don't have scorches anymore because...hmm...don't know why...i think her old number dosnt' work anymore?? not sure it's the same number: 215-350-0844 or my work cell (i'll be bringing both) 267-718-1446” 6:53:21 PM 1/10/05 “gem I just left you a message! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA now I got scorch's ph#. :D” 7:02:36 PM 1/10/05 “thanks Scorchfire!! please cross your fingers that I'll make this ...................................................t........................................................one...............................................................” 7:03:49 PM 1/10/05 “okay...the "...." stuff is gone. ENS I just got your voice mail. thanks. last edited: 1/10/05 7:05:52 PM” 7:04:46 PM 1/10/05 “now Bison and embear have to go. The crew has to reunite” 7:05:31 PM 1/10/05 “yeah, that would be cool. they are not going huh? damn dating stuff...see what that does to you? it ruins you for life. moahhhhhhh...” 7:06:41 PM 1/10/05 “I'm thinking of showing up in the early AM on Saturday. Scorch, you and Luke wanna stay here friday night and we'll party in Lancaster? see who passes out at the bar this time.” 7:09:16 PM 1/10/05 “hey....party in lancaster? if I come up there, I'll be there friday too. Not driving 8 hours for only one night.” 7:12:21 PM 1/10/05 “Who said we're not coming Gem, We might be there, looks like about 80% chance of us being on this trip now.” 7:26:10 PM 1/10/05 “would be cool if you guys could make it!” 7:28:51 PM 1/10/05 “I have Stuff all over the living room floor and it's so much fun!!!!! I hope all of these fine folks make it. Gemini I would offer to carpool with ya but my wife would have a cow. Hope you can make it!” 7:37:51 PM 1/10/05 “that's okay spam...i'll try to make it somehow. your wife would have a cow?? huh? because you car pool with a female? tell her I am harmless. really, it's okay though...I like to drive myself anyway.” 7:40:33 PM 1/10/05 “I'll be there, but I'm still deciding on whether to do Monty Python night at EarthNSky's on Friday night or go camping. Either way, I have to work a full day on Friday. Vee shall see...” 9:29:13 PM 1/10/05 “i got to figure out how to take care of shorty after school. We'll see. i'll take care of it. got to get out of this #&%!$n' house. And I am bout to shoot this computer too.” 9:48:57 PM 1/10/05 “ugh! i just puked my guts up tonight. i better not be getting no stomach flu! better to get it outta the way now than have it for this weekend, eh? anyway, ENS, thanks for the offer but i'm heading down there fri night as planned. not all about getting up at like 5am still drunk and driving down : ) no offense.” 10:17:16 PM 1/10/05 LMAO! “Yeah, I think I'm a-gonna do the same. That episode before the Thunderswamp last month was anything but cool, and I think I'm pretty lucky that I didn't get myself into some really serious trouble... last edited: 1/10/05 10:23:21 PM” 10:22:55 PM 1/10/05 “great..you guys ARE going, i don't care if you puke all the way to the campsite. YOU ARE going!!” 10:23:51 PM 1/10/05 “or Gemini will gemin-drag your butts down the trail.. she ain't play'n” 10:25:19 PM 1/10/05 Jump to Page << prev
