novatrek - glad you found the thread.

I am so looking forward to this trip - I have corresponded with some of you via email for a while now, and have become more active on TT. I look forward to meeting new folks - especially those who share an interest in backpacking, hiking and camping.

What more could someone ask for? A chance to make some new friends and winter camping all in the same weekend!

Could have a blizzard, might have no snow at all. But the trip title will be right-on no matter what.

yes you must watch the first one (2nd one was stupid) then go on this trip
zac, rumor has it you are coming to the treehouse.
what day?
mapleleaf

12/03/04

lumbozac, we can expect temperatures as low as about +10 and highs of about 40.

Snow should be less than one foot.

Then again, we could get buried.
MarkO

Depending on how things work out I'll probably leave Thursday night or Friday morning. It looks like the Treehouse is almost exactly at the halfway point for me.

Looks like I need to rent a movie.

and snowshoes will get packed in the car.

Dahlgren Backpacking campground. Run by the state and free for all hikers, but the bathrooms and showers aren't open after October (Nov?). Its maybe 1/5 of a mile from Old South Mountain Inn, right on the AT.

I don't have any snow shoes, do you really think they will be needed? I also don't presently have a 4WD vehicle and I am coming a long ways to get there.Should I be concerned?

snow shoes should not be needed. The elevation will barely exceed 1000 feet. We will be lucky if we see snow at all. MD/PA can be pretty mild in the winter.

It's hard to predict weather in the Mid-Atlantic in January. One weekend it will be 50 degrees and the next weekend it will be 20.

The cold part I would expect anyways thats not a problem, I don't care iffin we get a little snow either. I haven't looked at a map of this area yet and didn't know the elevation so I fell for the foot of snow thing.....
