It's like, 70 miles from home.” 10:28:03 AM 10/02/04 “I logged onto your trip as a tentative. I've hiked in this area several times and really enjoy it PLUS I'm hoping this will give me another chance to meet more of you folks over here on TT...” 9:28:57 AM 10/07/04 “werd! join the cult of the blair witch.” 1:11:27 PM 10/07/04 “I'm gonna sign up as a maybe for this one. I normally do a Jenny Jump cabin camp in Jan., but this looks way too cool!!” 6:34:32 PM 10/11/04 “it's a fun hike!” 8:11:21 PM 10/11/04 HHHMMM.... “I am going to have to think about this... MarkO, only 70 miles GMAB! I have to drive 4 hours to get to anything remotely matching what I consider good backpacking country. If I decide to do this I figure 8 hours minimum and I haven't looked at a map yet.” 8:38:02 PM 10/11/04 sticks... “My guess it'll be more like about 6 1/2 hours for you. Just get on 81 north up to Hagerstown, MD then US 40 Alt to the South Mountain Inn just East of Boonsboro...” 2:36:40 PM 10/12/04 “I looked at a map last night and figuring in for breaks 6.5 would be an extreme minimum...hey all that coffee has to go somewhere. I do have a question about companions...anybody against dogs? My girl loves to hike.” 4:34:24 PM 10/12/04 “bring the dog!!! what kind?” 6:27:22 PM 10/12/04 6.5 bare minimum “sticks, I think you're right. I was figuring it took me about 9 hours (with breaks) to get to Grayson Highlands, and it's about 2 hours (+ or -) to the South Mountain Inn from my home... I forgot about the distance you are from Grayson... last edited: 10/13/04 11:37:24 AM” 11:36:57 AM 10/13/04 “Angie is a black chow...and Squilax can confirm a moocher if there ever was one. She does understand a good firm NO! Then she just moves on to the next victim. Looking at the map last night I would come via I-71 to Columbus and pick up I-70, estimated milage would be about 450. That is a good 8 hours in my book. It just depends on the traffic flow...if they drive 80 I drive 80. I can make it to Joplin MO. in 10 hours because everyone drives 80-90mph.” 3:13:53 PM 10/13/04 Angie “Angie is a terrific dog! I can see why you bring her along, sticks. Not only is she friendly, but there are never any leftovers from meals to clean up either!!!” 3:18:37 PM 10/13/04 “Is it going to be cold?” 3:20:25 PM 10/13/04 Question... “Is anyone planning to spend Friday night at Dahlgren campground, just south of the Inn on the AT? It is free, and that time of year it should be empty or at least minimally occupied.” 3:22:06 PM 10/13/04 COLD?? “I dunno about this coming hike, but I understand that last year, the mercury recorded 17*F... Yep that's pretty cold!” 3:27:24 PM 10/13/04 “well last year at that time we were hiking in the snow. it was brrrrr brrrrr cold. you could cut glass that's how cold it was LOL.” 6:47:11 PM 10/13/04 “I like the cold.” 7:56:36 AM 10/14/04 “Squilax - I'll probably camp at Dahlgren Friday night. Much nicer to wake up Saturday morning and relax before meeting everyone than getting up way early and rushing. No services available there after October, but no big deal. I see you're from PA, so would you be coming down 83 around 695 to 70? I'll be leaving from work which is right at 695 and 70 so do you want to carpool from there Friday afternoon?” 8:27:08 AM 10/14/04 carpool “techntrek, I'm still set up as tentative for this trip, but if I am able to go I'll definitely be available to carpool. It won't be until later Friday evening, though, unless the new job comes through... (hoping). Email me and we'll make some tentative plans, OK?? Coming from home, I'll be using the 83>695>70 route, but if I'm still working in Philly by then, it'll be 95>695>70, so it may be later on Friday.” 8:34:22 AM 10/14/04 “Say hi..........when ya drive by!!! I'm a few miles from I-83 & I-695” 8:38:50 AM 10/14/04 “Email sent, you should have it in a minute or two. Anyone else going out Friday night? Anyone know if the Inn allows hiker parking?” 8:53:56 AM 10/14/04 “So, MarkO, I don't see you down even as a tentative - you thinking of going?” 9:00:26 AM 10/14/04 “have we picked a date yet?” 9:02:20 AM 10/14/04 DUH! “1/14 - 1/16/05 this is the date still right?” 9:03:34 AM 10/14/04 parking at the Inn “If we call ahead, they will let a limited number of vehicles park in the far back section of their lot. I'd suggest that if there are going to be more than 2 or 3 vehicles on Friday night that we put most of them up in the parking lot at Washington Monument SP - they have a hiker parking area there - then shuttle the folks back to the inn. In the morning, we can just take them back up to get their cars. techntrek, I got your email - thanks! last edited: 10/14/04 9:54:30 AM” 9:52:59 AM 10/14/04 “yea, MM” 9:58:58 PM 10/14/04 “If I go on this trip, does anyone want to carpool with me? I don't really want to drive over 400 miles by myself.” 7:39:36 AM 10/20/04 “You can hook up with us if you want to drive as far south as NYC, Zac...” 7:40:27 AM 10/20/04 “That could work. I won't know if I can go until closer to the trip. thanks” 7:42:28 AM 10/20/04 “No problem, Zac. Keep me posted...” 7:45:24 AM 10/20/04 “zac at the treehouse? hide the silver. LOL” 8:09:41 AM 10/20/04 “If I go on this trip, does anyone want to carpool with me? I don't really want to drive over 400 miles by myself.” Lurching Zombie Books on tape, Zac. It's the only way to travel. Trust me, I KNOW travel.” 2:41:59 PM 10/20/04 huh ? “Books on tape, Zac. It's the only way to travel. A good mystery/action thriller novel keeps me wide awake. I'd probably bail on a long trip if I didn't have a couple of audio books in the car.” 6:03:46 PM 10/20/04 Jump to Page |  1 | 2
