Alright. I'm looking for an area in the Indiana area. By that I mean within a few hours drive of Indianapolis. Was looking at the red river gorge if that gives an idea of distance.

The trip i'm doing is 5 days. Arriving on a friday and doing a short hike (under 5 miles), camping then 3 days of real hiking. Need to end up at the origional campsite for the final night (after the 3rd day of real hiking). Then it will be a quick jog to the cars and out.

I've looked at the red, but am having trouble finding a loop trail system that I can get enough miles out of. I'd like to do about 10 miles a day, unless it's really rugged. Was also looking at the knobstone, but can't locate much info on specific loop trails. I also hear water is an issue, which can't happen for a longer trip. I'm not carry enough water for 5 days.

So any suggestions? I'm open to pretty much anywhere as long as it has a decent amount of miles and the trail loops back. If i have to, a 15 to 20 mile straight out and back trail would work, but I don't like backtracking the entire last half of the trip.

any suggestions?

Hoosier national forest
Shawnee National Forest (down state Illinois)

Look at the river to river trail in the Shawnee. I hear the are is beautiful. Don't know much on the area though.

You also have mammoth cave in KY. You can make this into a 5 day trip. Water might be an issue when you are not close to the green river. I was their last weekend and all the creeks are bone dry.

Some kind of racist or something?
I'm 1/16 Indian, that good enought? ;-)

okay...as i started thinking i realized I had one day less then i thought. So trip is now 2 half days (from and to car) and two longer days (10 mi or so). So a 20-25 mi loop would be ideal

:-)

Well if you just wanted a weekend, I'd say come to the Yellow River State Forest hike Oct. 22-24. It was 5 hours for the Chicago area people. Course, it's not long enough for your specs. :-(

good luck!
