LOL...I asked for a CB radio last year - they're still used in the Maine woods where cell phones are useless or unreliable. There are signs along the roads that tell which channel to monitor in the area.

Gawd, do THIS thread bring back memories... I used ta be so into this stuff. Until I got bored with it, I had some serious equipment, and was talking to Guam, Phillipines, all over the place, from So. Michigan... and all from my little ole\' CB...

Now, lest you think I\'m pulling your leg, it was, in fact, CB, and not HAM radio. Although, to be fair, I WAS using a [modified] HAM radio... and boots... and a VFO with a frequency counter... and a D-104 (who knows what THAT is?)

But, I digress...

I didn't think CB was even in much use anymore, but out in the woods, as bunny boiler says, would be ideal when cell phones are useless.

Well, it looks like 2-way radio's have been largely superceded by this thing called the Internet, but I gotta tell ya, we still have HAM radios implemented at our company's different office sites as part of the DR plan...
