“Does anyone have to go to a certain amount of trainings per year for their job?

We have to get so many CE credits and hours in per year. Sometimes it sucks due to the trainings being early in the morning or late at night, but it gets me out of the office.

Just wondering since I'll be out of the office the rest of the week and at a training.”

“Yes, we have training several times a year. It is aprx 8 hrs long ea day & scheduled instead of your reg work. My wife is a respitory therapist & the same applies to her in addition to CEU's.”

“We are not required by work to maintain any number of CE credits, however, one of the certifications I am pursuing requires 120 CE credits over a 3 year period to maintain the certification. That should not be any problem at all, since the field of Information Technology is evolving all the time. Anyone should be learning new things if they want to stay current in the IT field. Since I cannot retire anytime soon, I'll constantly be learning new things and maintaining several IT certifications in order to remain employable in this field.”

“The State Licensing board requires me to have CEU's.”

“I think most professions (if there is any sort of certification or licensing) require CEU's. Amazingly enough, in the State of Michigan, a professional engineer isn't required to get any CE's. Most reputable companies allow for training/conferences/etc. in their budgets for all employees.

My boyfriend is a teacher. Teachers are required to earn CEU's, but the school district doesn't pay for them. They have to pay for most of them out of their own pockets.”

“My wife's school system will pay for the CE, but after taxes you are left holding half of the bag. Fortunately a year or two ago the state started kicking in money on taxes and that makes up the difference.”

“I have to learn new stuff in order to keep working, but nothing official. A few years ago I learned Java. Probably in a few years I'll have to learn something else new.”

“I'm in a similar situation as bit. I stay on top of whatever languages they want us to know for the next program. I've gone from VB to ASP to ColdFusion in the last 4 1/2 years. Also tacked on Windows API, Javascript, CSS, and others. All informal, with formal training as I can get it. No certs I need to keep up, but if I stop learning I'll go stale within a year or two.”

LOL - the basement broom closet of the profession. Social workers have more relevancy than you do. At the top are psychiatrists, then significantly below them are Ph.D. psychologists, and way, way, way below them are the rest of the wannabes.”

“Scorch, make sure and tell the trainer that your leg is sore and bring a big fluffy pillow to put your leg on, and ask the training person if they wouldn't mind getting you some cookies and a soda!”
