HoneyDog is a female and she humps too but just other dogs. Does she hike with you or are her legs too short?

ya, we bring her and her two bulldog sisters quite a bit.
mostly on the shorter trips.

they're good for 3-5 miles depending on the temps.

we sometimes wish we had a golden to go on longer trips, but 3's enough right now

How much more work is it to have two dogs as opposed to just one? I'm trying to talk the wife into letting me get anouther Golden or an English Setter.

all depends on how they get along. if they get along well together, then 2 can actually be easier than 1, because they can keep each other company/happy - and many behavior probs are boredom related - especially with sporting/working breeds.

on the other hand, if they don't get along too well...

my bullies may not be the best trail dogs, but they're perfect for canoe trips.

short, squat, take up little room, and perfectly content to sit peacefully for hours in a boat.

HoneyDog was given a blaze orange bandana from her Uncle Budder and she wears that during hunting season. Any other time and the Golden with a bandana is just gay.

Nigal, I have seen some bad stories about having more than one animal. These are the problems you can have. Well, first it starts off that the first dog is so good, you think the second dog will be good, well behaved etc, and that's what make you want the second one.

First off, if one gets sick or needs a certain type of food, you have to feed the dogs separately. My in law has a sick cat that needs special food, but she can't just put the food down all day without the other cat eating it, so she pays for both to eat the expensive food.

Sometimes having two dogs makes them more hyper, in one gals case, her pugs tear apart her house when she lets them loose together, so she puts then in a kennel (wire cage) and lets them out separtely. I am against kennels, which is a nice word for cage.

If you are getting a dog from the pound, I'm more for you getting the dog. Also, if you are set on getting a certain breed of dog, check the internet to find rescue places for that kind of dog. They are out there. I had tried to get a Chihuahua from a Chihuahua rescue place, but there were none available at the time in WA. They charge a small fee for the dog, and they are no kill shelters. With the Chihuahuas, they are all in foster care in private homes until someone sees them online and chooses one. The dog will most likely come "fixed" and have all it's shots.
