Just a few pics from last weekend's trip up to the Redwoods. I stayed the first night at Jed Smith Redwood SP, 2nd night at Gold Bluff Beach, and 3rd night at McKerricker SP near Fort Bragg.

This is the Smith River. Considered by many to be the cleanest river in America and an awesome place to catch salmon and steelies.

Crossing the Smith River via a seasonal footbridge brings you to the Stout Grove of redwoods. Pretty impressive.

Another pic of the Stout Grove.

On the second day of the trip I drove out to the coast and camped. Nearby was Fern Canyon with 30 ft vertical walls of fern bordering Home Creek.

Fern Canyon

This is just a northward view from Gold Bluff Beach. I spent most of the late afternoon beach combing out here looking for gold.

The next moring I drove to the visitor center to get permit to access the Tall Trees grove. I hiked down the trail to see what the hoopla was all about and was the only person at the trailhead and grove for the couple hours I was there. Apparently, the tallest tree in the world is here.

If interested, more pics can viewed here

Bison, I've pretty much given up trying whole redwoods. Those things are just too dang big.

Dances, I used a Oly C4000Z for these pics. I may of used a circular polarizer but I don't remember. Doubt if I did though because it was pretty dark in Fern Canyon and various redwood groves.

Looks like you had perfect weather in the Redwoods! Pretty naked ladies.. :-) Great picture of the tops of the trees. Did you lay on the ground for that one? Beautiful picture of the rock grouping with the fall color reflected in the water... nice... New tent?

If I promise to not walk on the naked ladies can I go next time?

LH, I guess the weather was nice. Atleast, there wasn't rain. Mornings and evenings were fog bound but the sun came out each afternoon. I took Hwy 1 down on Sunday and it so darn foggy for much of the drive until I got to Jenner. Naked Ladies? You mean the flowers? I've never seen them before but they were apparent along the coast quite abit. And no, the tent isn't new. I just don't use it for summer backpacking anymore.

Thanks for the fine comments WW and Phil. If it wasn't for the crop my composition would be piss poor. :)

Cool dude, I was there also, and those pic's look like mine too, we might of seen each other. I also went inland to Etna, and did some hiking and climbing up on the P.C.T. and then went to Mt.Shasta and hiked up near the top, and turned arounded because of sickness, went to fast, really just out of shape for that type of hiking.

Thanks for sharing your photos.
Last time I was out in Cal, a group of us climbed Shasta.

When we got back into the SF area we took a day to explore the Big Basin Redwood Forest, awesome.

Thank you Rockman for posting your beautiful pictures!
I love the one of the Smith River.

Looking at the ones of the Redwoods have made me a bit homesick...I was born and raised in Arcata lived there until we moved to Tahoe. I do miss Humboldt County at times a lot
Did you happen to go to Patrick's Point State Park? It all is such a beautiful area.

Thanks again for sharing your photos!

AWESOME shots, whew doggy! Just beautiful! As for the tallest tree in the world, I always thought that was the Mendocino Tree in the Montgomery State Reserve? I think that's the one listed in Guinness anyway. But who knows. Again, outstanding photos!

Buck, I was wondering if the tree is the tallest also. Everything I've read said the Tall Tree was the tallest back in the '60's when discovered. Since then, the crown broke off but the park literature doesn't say if it is still the tallest. I have the feeling it isn't anymore. Just like the NPS to keep the charade going. I mean, like, who wants to visit the 2nd tallest tree in the world. PHHHTTT!

I like the sunset and the creek with leaves best. And I like how you capture the sunshine on the plants.
Rockman, you were in Jenner and didn't call? You were practically in our back yard!!! We would've wined and dined you and put you up in the nicest spare bedroom. Next time :-)

WBP, thanks for the offer but after driving down foggy hwy 1 I was ready to just be at home already. That 101 traffic wasn't much fun either.
