..........Blackberry Blossom?
I'm looking for a copy of "Blackberry Blossom" by Michelle Shocked. I know she has it on one of her CDs because a friend of mine has the lyrics and has heard the song. I've been able to play the song for years but never heard the words sung to it, and frankly I never even knew the song had words.

AND... I'm wondering if whomever may have this CD would burn the song and send it out to me. I'd be happy to send a self-abused stomped envelope with the CD as I'd really like to have it (without having to go out and purchase the whole CD)

Anybody?

Verse (A Section):
Can you tell me what happened to the blossom,
Blackberry blossom when the summertime came?
The blackberry blossom, oh the last time I saw one
Was down in the bramble where I rambled in the spring

Chorus:
The bramble was wild I was torn by the briars
My love he wooed me as I lie there
With a flower in my hair and my cheeks all flashy
Was the blackberry blossom from the blackberry bush

Verse:
When I picked the berry I didn't miss the blossom
The blackberry blossom was white as the snow
But the berry that it brings is sweeter than molasses
And black as the wings of an Arkansas crow

Chorus:
The Arkansas crow is a devil and a demon
Known for his cackling and his screaming
Driving away the swallow and the thrush
From the blackberry blossom and the blackberry bush

Verse:
I was picking berries when that crow flew above me
Carrying my lover so far away
Now each spring I lay a blackberry blossom
By a cold gravestone on the Arkansas clay

Chorus:
The Arkansas clay is rocky and hard
With weeds growing over in the old graveyard
And the day settles down to an evening
Over the blackberry blossom and the blackberry bush.

Thanks, Baume 66
Baume, that is one of the first songs I learned on a banjo and one I can play fluently and having different variations.

I've been jamming with a few folks and this one girl came to the table with this song to play. She heard it once and dug it so much she downloaded the lyrics and has been playing her own basturdization of it. Heck, I didn't even know the song had words. lol

I'd appreciate any help you can donate, Baume. And btw, I'm looking at throwing down ~4K to get a Deering Maple Blossom with spikes, chrome plating and my name engraved in the truss rod cover. I have to wait to see what my Christmas bonus from work will be to determine what $$$ I'll have to grab from my pocket first.

But if you're driving past your local library in the next coming days.......

i'll take care of it.

you can get a maple blossom for a lot less than that. i bought an ome juniper deluxe (mahogany) last february. it's got spikes. they are nice. i haven't been jamming with others a whole lot but have some software that gives me back up guitar. i need to get to the local jams some. it might be worth your trip to go to the turtle hill banjo company and check out a million different banjos. he sets appointments so you get his undivided attention. he has over 200 in stock and you can play anything you want. it is in maryland. that is where i bought my ome.

blackberry blossom is a neat old fiddle tune. nice melody the way it bounces up and down the neck. i don't have it up to speed yet. i'll try and record it and post a link to it.

send me your home addy so i can send you the cd when i get it burned.

Why Settle For Something Less Than What You Want
Yeah, I know I can get a Maple Blossom for alot less...Janet Davis Music has them for $2400 (list $3200) but I don't want to get a used one or a new one that has been sitting around in a showroom for who knows how long. And I really want a few custom options such as Chrome as Nickle is standard on most banjos from any company. I want a look that really shines and stays looking new for a heck of alot longer time. The MB has most features I desire, not just a look.

OME makes some kick ass banjos. Last year I met a dood who had one (and boy could he play it) and the thing was a work of art.

I'll have to take a good look at that Turtle Hill site as I still have a while till I make a final deci$ion.

Oh yeah...you've got mail.
