I've also decided to make a goal of raising $5,000--between now and July that shouldn't be too hard!
(Last year I raised $1900 for Muscular Dystrophy in 2 weeks!--you'd be surprised at how quickly your money will come in...)

Spirit--
on our message board in MIchigan, I've seen that many people sell little pink ribbons and things like that to raise funds for the 3 day walk... I'm an artist, so I think I may try to make some small cards for people to buy to help me fundraise... Let me know if you need ideas!

(maybe we can do something jointly!)

Hey Spirit, I'm on the phone with the 3-Day group right now....

I've decided to try to get a local team together called "Think Pink!"

And I also found out that we CAN do teams from different states! :-D

I've already thought up a little "logo" for my team and hope to make some small t-shirts or greeting cards to help me fundraise!

and, no, no pink bracelet yet-- they haven't sent me my package-- I registered on Saturday morning... :-)

My package said it had a pink bracelet in it, but there wasn't anything in it! I got screwed!

And, way to go ladies! This is a cause close to my heart - you are my newest hero's!

Spirit, I think you have to put a team web page up... then you decide upon a team fundraising goal... :-)

I've got one up on my web page now.... I'd like to start Team "Think Pink" :-) Just sent out a few emails yesterday. Will probably send out a bunch more this weekend!

Hey Spirit!
Started with my first official "training walk" today! 57 minutes, 3.64 miles, 3.8 mph (according to my GPS tracker... :-)

I did the 3-dayer in Colorado in 2001 and I swore I would not do it again. 137 degree pavement heat and oh the concrete sidewalks and asphalt roads...very little dirt. Well, I promised a friend that when she recovered form her cancer that I would do it again. She did, and I AM FILLED WITH JOY, but, now I realize that I gotta fulfill that promise. Colorado did not have the walk last year, so I gotta find out if they are going to try Colorado or try another city...but, which one??? I have never been to San Francisco.

I know the need to raise the funds...will try to send to you what I can afford (lowly student right now).

FYI, there are the Breast Cancer 3-Day walks, and Avon still does a 2 or 3 day walk. (Both are advertised in O! Magazine) I'm sure there is one in a city near you!

Snow:

It would be great if you "joined" us on this walk, in whichever city is closest to you!--I found out that we CAN have teams of people walking in different states--although, I'm not really sure of the logistics there...

IF you do decide to walk-- we'll help encourage you via TT :-)

Spirit-- you're a painter?! I'm an oil painter and also do a little water color (it's a newer medium for me--but much more portable!)

I also do oil pastels, pastels, acrylic painting (but far prefer oils to acrylics), sculpture, and jewelry... :-)

AND... I LOVE photography!
pinkbubelz
11:17:01 AM

Yeah I do oil, would lite to get into water colar and acrilic...I do some charcal too but am not that fond of it. I have to be in the right mood. I also like to draw in india ink.
Spirit Coyote
11:21:19 AM
11/01/04

I'm not as much a pen & ink person, I do like to do charcoals as well...

If you don't have a lot of room and can't create a lot of fumes, try the water soluble oils. They are pretty good from what I hear... Texture is slightly more "watery" than traditional oils, but they seem to work pretty well-- I have a friend who can't tolerate large amounts of turps, and that's what they use.

also alkyds are more like oils in their consistancy but dry much more quickly (within a few days) like acrylics... you can use traditional oil mediums or alkyd mediums with them...

I just know the day I go get my supplies out of storrage I'll open the door and the'll be a big explosion LOL one of the reasons I want to get out of oils is because of all the toxic cancer causing liver damaging matterials I was using :D
Spirit Coyote

11/01/04

LOL... welcome to "my world"

I used to work at the Office of Radiation, Chemical and Biological Safety on campus while I was a student.... I had to log in the toxic chemicals for each department. (and surprisingly there are lots of toxic chemicals-- even in an office environment!)

The day I had to log in the chemicals from the Art Dept., I nearly fell over-- the majority of pigments, and medium used in painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, graphic design....etc... are toxic in one form or another.

One time I saw a visibly pregnant lady in Michael's ARts & Crafts store testing the color of a tube of paint on her hand. I quickly told her to go and wash it off--the toxins in many paints can be absorbed through the skin and could affect her baby!

No wonder so many artists either go crazy or die at an early age... almost every material we come in contact with could kill us (if breathed in, injested (you can't believe the number of people who eat in their studios), absorbed through the skin, etc....)

Oh, and 1 more thing-- I don't use the "odorless turps" because I feel that if I can't smell it, I won't be able to realize the amount of it in the air.

I ALWAYS work with a fan in my window--drawing the "bad air" outside....

Funny thing-- I actually like the smell of Turps-- I think it is because I associate it with pleasant memories of a good painting professor, whom I admired, and being at the university.
