I'm hoping to do some outdoors walking (in daylight!) while I'm on vacation! :-)” 12:43:23 AM 12/14/04 “4 more weeks, huh Sass? what a bummer!” 7:21:32 AM 12/14/04 “Pink I got my bracelet in the mail the other day, did you get yours yet?” 1:47:02 PM 12/27/04 “Yup, I've been wearing it around! :-) I still need to put up the photos of the ones I'm selling... ;-)” 11:59:28 AM 12/28/04 “I have started wearing it and people have been asking for them...I wonder if i can get more? I should call coach and find out.” 12:00:47 PM 12/28/04 “Spirit-- How's the fundraising going? I've got about 650 in pledges, but haven't yet received the money...” 11:22:35 AM 1/03/05 “not so hot. I have competition where I am working so the people who have been there longer are getting the pledges...time for a new plan!!” 11:25:48 AM 1/03/05 “Have you tried selling things online? I am making some bracelets and necklaces--- still have to photograph them for my website....” 11:30:10 AM 1/03/05 “Spirit-- try talking to your coaches and see if they can help you out with the fundraising. I'm finding that wearing my button and casually mentioning it to people around me has been helpful in accumulating pledges... although they are not yet posted to my site... :-(” 10:58:53 AM 1/04/05 “Yay! Finally, some of my donors' money has been posted on my site... I got my first official $150 donation! :-) so far, my pledges are up to about $710! :-)” 11:31:31 AM 1/20/05 “Way to go Pink! I finally got my pink bracelet (rubber kind, like the yellow Lance Armstrong bracelets) in the mail. Its been several months of waiting for it! Unfortunatly, as much as I like this event, I've decided to not participate this year, with all the other changes going on in my life. When the time gets nearer, hit me up for a donation!” 12:08:12 PM 1/20/05 “Hey Smiley... That I will definitely do... If you have time, maybe you can be a "day" volunteer? Let me know if you have anyone who would like to donate... I could use as much help as possible... seems like the donations are coming in quite slowly... but I have lots of pledges! :-)” 12:59:57 PM 1/20/05 “Here's my info for my donation site (once again... :-) **************************************** For those of you who are not aware, I will be walking in the 3-day, 60 mile walk to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the National Philanthropic Trust on the weekend of July 15-17, 2005. On each of the 3 days, I will be walking 20 miles, for a total of 60 miles.... In order for me to walk in this event, I have to raise a minimum of $2,100 money. So far, I've been pledged about $710.... Donors can opt to donate in installments or in 1 lump sum....(there is a form you can download from the web site if you would like to donate installments or if you prefer not to use a credit card for your donation.) Here is the link to my web page for anyone who is interested in helping to find a cure for Breast Cancer!! http://www.the3day.org/faf/r.asp?t=4&i=61809&u=61809-62093651 Each person who donates at least $60 will receive a small piece of my artwork or photography! Thanks for your support! P.S. I am also looking for other people to walk in the 3-Day with me! Each walker pays $95 (it covers your food and lodging in tents for 3 days/2 nights during the walk) and must also raise $2,100 per person.... My team is called "Team Think Pink". I would love to have at least 2 other people walk with me!” 1:02:30 PM 1/20/05 “Hey Spirit Coyote, how's the Breast Cancer Walk training going? I pulled a muscle (hamstring) a few weeks ago, so my doc told me to lay off of the heavy-duty walking, but it's starting to feel better. I will hopefully get back to training in about another week or so... I've gotten about $515 on my site in pledges so far, how is the fundraising going?” 1:23:43 AM 2/16/05 “Spirit, are you still around? I just ordered about 110 bracelets from the 3 day website and will be selling them to raise funds. Also, I got some pink ribbon pins from the Komen website--as well as a lot of free literature and bookmarks.... You might try to get some of that info yourself-- that way, you can distribute it to others and hopefully raise some awareness for the 3-Day walk.... I just counted up my total pledges-- I'm up to $1,155.25 in pledges and currently have $515.25 online... Woo hoo!!! One of my coaches recommended seeking the help of children, neices or nephews (I don't have kids, so I'm borrowing some) to help you sell the pink rubber bracelets at their school. Might be a good and painless way to raise funds. Also, have you tried talking to a restaurant or bar about doing a fundraiser? --Iris” 12:06:26 PM 2/16/05 Back on my Training again! “Yay!!! I'm easing back into my training for the 3-day again! So far, so good... My hamstring is still a little sore, so I'm trying not to push it, but I know I have to keep walking to keep my endurance level up... :-) For Lent I had decided to give up TV....UNLESS I'm exercising!!! :-) (so that it benefits me!) So, now, if I want to watch a show, I have to walk! :-) TV is no longer a time-waster this way... :-) So, I started back on my training on Saturday.... Saturday, I walked 1.52 Miles (60 minutes) on the treadmill. Sunday, Thinkbubelz & I snowshoed for 70 minutes, I think about 2.5 miles.... Today (Tuesday) I walked 80 minutes on the treadmill and 2.67 miles... :-) Woo Hoo! ****************** Hey Spirit Coyote! How is your training going?!! Has anyone seen her lately?” 8:58:56 PM 2/22/05 “Hey, Spirit! How's the walk going? I've been trying to work out at least 3 days a week... :-) Cannot wait to get on some longer walks, now that the weather is getting nicer!!!” 2:47:51 PM 3/29/05 Bowlers are Invited on May 21st! “Hey to any TTers who are in Michigan, My team "Think Pink" will be having a Bowling Fundraiser downriver from Detroit on May 21st!!! :-) Look for information in the next week--The cost is only $20 for an evening of fun-- plus we are having some raffles for prizes, as well as photos, and other fun give-aways that evening! I am also selling "Think Pink" t-shirts and hats that will have the logo that you can see on my walker's web page!! :-) Think Pink! Please help me reach my goal of at least $2,100 by May 21st! :-) I am walking in honor of my best Friend's mom who recently finished her breast cancer treatments! :-) My walk is on July 15-17 in the Detroit Michigan area--I need to raise at least $2,100 to even participate! I've been training very hard these past months and hope that my friends on Trailtalk will take a few moments to donate towards my goal! :-) http://www.the3day.org/faf/r.asp?t=4&i=61809&u=61809-62093651 Thanks for reading my post and Think Pink!! :-) (you can donate either directly at the website, or via a check--download the form at the site!) The main site is: www.the3day.org Go to the "Sponsor a Participant" Page under the Michigan dates and type in "Iris" (I'm the only one in Michigan!) You'll be able to get a downloadable donation form at my walker site!” 4:05:09 PM 5/02/05 “I heard there will be a 5 mile walk for asthma, and I thought maybe since it's for asthma, it should be shorter:) Some asthma people have attacks triggered by excersize.” 4:08:02 PM 5/02/05 “lipstick-- you are too funny! Depending on the weather, i can sometimes get asthmatic when I exercise... (especially, if I'm running and it's cold and windy.) But mine gets triggered more by smoke and intense exercise than anything else. Walking 5 miles doesn't have to be too strenuous if done properly...” 4:12:34 PM 5/02/05 “How's the training going Pink? Birch works with a woman who's walking. She hasn't taken a step in preparation! I asked her how the training was going and she told me she lifts weights everyday. She is going to die on that walk. Holler if you want a massage after any long days on foot, your team mates too! I'll bring the table to you.” 9:49:35 PM 5/02/05 “Hey Sass--I've been walking (on and off) but it really sucks to walk in this freezing cold weather. Thinkbubelz & I have also taken a running class, so I've added that to my training as well... :-) I finished 15th in the 5K run through Running fit in my age group (out of 18 people) 39:26:16, but I'm not complaining-- I ran/walked the 5 k... and it was really cold and we were running straight into the wind, so I'm just glad I didn't finish last! :-) Funny thing-- the old guy who was power-walking actually walked the race faster than I ran/walked it! LOL Well, anyways, I've been a little lax this past week due to a wedding, but I'm stepping up my game next week-- might do some hiking when Thinkbubelz & I go to Pennsylvania for a friend's wedding! :-) Would you like to come out to our fundraiser on May 21st? It's a bowling fundraiser-- downriver, but it should be fun! If you sign up with me, part of your ticket cost will go to me!” 5:47:11 PM 5/03/05 “Oh and I was 51 out of 60 females (with many 13 year olds running way faster than me! LOL!)” 5:48:45 PM 5/03/05 “I know how that feels, pink! Those darn teenagers have so much energy, and most people older than me ran my last 5K faster than I did! This year it'll be different, though, I'm gonna improve my time by 3 minutes. :)” 7:39:45 AM 5/04/05 “Pink, funds are something I can't give this year. Hence the offer of the massage.... Sounds like a great idea though. I hope it goes well for you!” 11:51:56 AM 5/04/05 “Hi Sass...I understand...many of my friends are really strapped for cash this year--3 of them are in the market for a new job (i.e. laid off! :-( ) But your offer for the massage sounds cool! I'm wondering if you would be willing to give a massage as something we could auction at our fundraiser? :-) (or would you be willing to come and do some 3 minute massages (or something like that) for our fundraiser? (Maybe we could go 50/50 on the money?) It might help you get some customers for later (and it could be something you can add to your resume... :-) ) Let me know... :-) Otherwise, I'd be more than happy to be a test subject for your classes... :-) The legs sometimes get pretty sore after a long walk/run... :-) But they are recovering much more quickly now that I've been walking more! :-)” 5:00:58 PM 5/10/05 “I believe this weekend is Michigan's 3 Day walk? It was super hot and muggy yesterday. And, most of this morning was filled w/ heavy downpours (some flooding).... at least in my area. Hope Pink is managing to stay dry and cool!! Can't wait to hear about it.” 4:35:07 PM 7/16/05 “Me too...im so excited for her and when Its my turn :)” 9:18:34 PM 7/16/05 “Hey Spirit! How is your fundraising going? I've got some good ideas if you need any! :-)” 8:25:13 AM 7/19/05 “Hey, for those who walked in the 3-Day in the past, What did you do for post training? Did you continue to walk? or did you taper off? Just curious? I am planning to do some walking again this evening, but wonder what kind of advice you would give? This was my first time in doing anything this ambitious!” 8:28:09 AM 7/19/05 “Depends on what your goals are. Do you want to continue walking, or try something else for variety? I think I pretty much stopped walking after the race. I'm not sure I did much of any exercise, but that's because I'm a lazy bum. :)” 10:59:59 AM 7/19/05 “LOL I have decided to walk in next year's 3 day (well, at least that's what I am thinking right now!) However, I'm going to try to continue to walk at least 2 or 3 times a week... :-) My new year's resolution was to walk at least 500 miles this year... Now I'm over 300, so 500 shouldn't be hard at all!” 10:27:00 PM 7/19/05 “Pink, I forgot to say congrats and that its awesome that ya did this!” 5:41:40 AM 7/20/05 “Pink, Did you get my e-mail late last week? And, when is the walk next year? I'd like to walk it again, but it depends on the timing (this dang wedding is getting in the way! LOL!)” 8:00:30 AM 7/20/05 “Hey Pink. Glad you enjoyed yourself. For me, the 3-Day Walk was an experience I will never forget. My mom had breast cancer and, as a result, a mastectomy last October. She was just in the hospital this weekend after some follow-up surgery and while there, I told her that her weekend in had coincided w/ the 3-Day Walk. And, that the finish was just a few miles away. Pretty good timing. Thanks for doing it. BTW, after the walk, I kept walking, just not nearly as much, and I slowly started getting into running.” 8:26:19 AM 7/20/05 “Smiley-- not sure when next year's will be-- when are you getting married (need any help?!-- I've been to over 40 weddings-- I could probably be a wedding planner with all of the experiences I've had!) Tara--I hope your mom is doing better. I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers... I agree with you-- I won't ever forget this experience!!! Birch-- Thanks!!! :-) Now where is Sass when I NEED her?! :-D” 1:21:09 AM 7/23/05
