3-day walk for breast cancer 2005

“It's been over a year since I have done any charity things so I think its about time I start.

“Spirit Coyote, see the "Save Boobs, Save Lives" thread. Sass, Tarabull and I did the walk 2 years ago and had great support. I crewed the walk this year, and again had good support from the Trail Talkers.

Its an awesome event. Truly a once in a lifetime experience. Its daunting for a reason.”

“i wanted to do it last year but had missed the registration. I had first heard about it last spring on the radio and thought thats so awesome. I have done walks for alzheimers (SP?) and arthritis before but nothing near as long as this one lol”

I have two aunts who are currently in treatment. One had a lumpectomy, the other a mascetomy. Cancer is nasty stuff and the three day events raise millions of dollars each. Thank you for commiting to raising the money and walking. It's a big deal, alot of time and energy spent training and fund raising.”

“if i recall...

we were given a training schedule at an "expo" for the 3-day walk

we started training in january

i believe we walked 3-4 days a week. short walks on a couple week days and long walks on sat and sun. our mileage was in the 30s and 40s (per week) by the last month of so.”

“The 3day people are awesome and will set you up with a good schedule and all sorts of excellant tips, etc. They even do organized training walks so you can meet other walkers.

I was thinking about this as I worked last night. I should be able to volunteer as a massage therapist this coming year! If not definately next year. =)”

I am thinking of doing this walk as well-- my best friend's mom was diagnosed w/breast cancer and Thinkbubelz' grandma had it many years ago....

I'm going to see if I can get a friend or 2 in the area to do the walk with me (or at least to "train" by walking with me at least 1 or 2 days a week.)

Besides, it's good exercise and all for an awesome cause!”

“I'm trying to see if I can get some of my girlfriends to walk with me (maybe 1 day a week with each of them...I'm trying to convince them that a 3 - 4 mile walk is only 1 hour of their time if they can spare it.... :-) If I can get enough people around me to walk with me for 1 day each, then that would be a good motivator for each of us... :-)

going to talk to my best friend and see what she says-- she's a cardiologist and her mom had Breast Cancer last year....

“I got my 3-Day info in the mail yesterday. It comes with an information CD. I warn you to get out the kleenex before you watch it.

I don't know if I'll sign up for it this year. Maybe I'll just be a sideline cheerleader for the walkers as they go by. That was one of the most motivating things on the walk - the strangers who said "thank you for walking" and cheered you on.”

Same with my Ride for the Roses and Tour of Hope DC ride. The last rest stop on the Ride for the Roses was the "Survivors Rest Stop". It was the best.”

“Not related to breast cancer, but one of the most touching things I ever witnessed was a few years ago when some of my friends and I headed to Children's Hospital to do some Christmas Carolling...

One mom heard our raggedy little group (we were definitely not up for any music awards!) singing and asked us if we could sing Silent Night for her little girl who was in the hospital for treatment of her Leukemia. the little girl came into the hallway with her IV stand and stood with her mom to listen to us.

Here we were, a little group of 5 people singing not always on-key.... the mom started crying (made us cry too!) because of our being there and spreading some holiday cheer to the kids....To her, I think just our presence brightened up a sad situation for her daughter...

I was so moved by that incident that each time I think of it, it still makes me cry....

I think it would be very moving to help others who really need it....
