OMG Ewker,

This country is being run like a business, thats what is wrong right now. Government is NOT a business, it is suppose to be a representation of the people. ou know for the people by the people... ring any bells?
And thats what people are not considering when they go to the polls, we are treating this like a school election on popularity. We need to plant our feet back down on the ground and consider our futures and our children's futures here, thats what we are losing sight of and fast.

KERRY: ...Six months after he said Osama bin Laden must be caught dead or alive, this president was asked, Where is Osama bin Laden? He said, I don't know. I don't really think about him very much. I'm not that concerned...

SCHIEFFER: Mr. President?

BUSH: Gosh, I just don't think I ever said I'm not worried about Osama bin Laden. It's kind of one of those EXAGGERATIONS.

Press Conference by the President, March 13, 2002
Q: Mr. President, in your speeches now you rarely talk or mention Osama bin Laden. Why is that? Also, can you tell the American people if you have any more information, if you know if he is dead or alive?...

THE PRESIDENT: ...I don't know where he is. You know, I just don't spend that much time on him... to be honest with you... And, again, I don't know where he is. I -- I'll repeat what I said. I truly am not that concerned about him.

"Gosh, I just don't think I ever said I'm not worried about Osama bin Laden. It's kind of one of those EXAGGERATIONS......"

That was a line he'd been practicing in the mirror all day, and blew it on that response. He should get negitive two points for "jumping the gun/exessive use of a theme at the wrong time in debate". What a steaming pile he stepped in when he said that. Bush just keeps giving the club to Kerry, and Kerry uses it to crack his skull wide open. When is Bush ever going to learn? There was about 32 campaign ads worth of material Bush gave to Kerry last night.

It shouldn't be this close. I'm starting to think that the media is a little afraid they will be labled really bias and are proping up Gee Dub in order to make it look like there's a race happening. Remember, a blow-out doesn't help the bottom line at G.E., so keeping it close is in the networks favor.

angii - Good to see another side of how having more than two parties is nothing to be afraid of! It's good to hear that our friends to the north are happy about thier system.

When Bush was asked about the shortage of flu vaccine and what he intended to do about it, he said that the government was going to try to get some from.....CANADA.

I guess that Canadian flu vaccine is OK. What about other Canadian drugs?

BUSH: ...He talks about middle-class tax cuts. That's exactly where the tax cuts went. Most of the tax cuts went to low- and middle-income Americans. And now the tax code is more fair.

Citizens for Tax Justice By 2010, when (and if) the Bush tax reductions are fully in place... 52 percent of the total tax cuts [2001] will go to the richest one percent.

Citizens for Tax Justice By the end of the decade, more than half of the President’s proposed new tax reductions [2003] would go to the top one percent.

LOL Jo,
'ya exactly, I had to laugh agout the hole fda approval thing, Canada buys their drugs from the states in bulk, thats why they get them so cheap. As canadians they tend to only pay 10.00 for their medications perscribed. Some medications are more expensive, but there are subsidies.
Anyway, to say that canadian drugs do not pass fda approval is a farce, they were made in America and are distributed there today ??? So I guess we are all taking non fda approved meds ....

I thought it was humorous the way Kerry answered the FLU SHOT question:

Under the President, I regret to say, 5 million Americans have lost their health care coverage... blah, blah, blah

I'm like... uhhh, Kerry? The question was about FLU SHOTS? Heeeellloooo? As in, the flu? Not health coverage for families... you've talked about that already 42.7 times... this was a question about the FLU vaccines!

Oh, ya flu vaccines... but this President, I regret to say, has made a colossial error in judgment in regards to weapons of mass destruction...

Did someone mention the question about illegal immigrants to the US?.. Bush's answer floored me. A temporary worker card?.. So companies can legally hire those that WANT to work?..

I might be over-reacting here, but isn't that an invitation to abuse the system?.. If I was an employer I'd just purposely set the wage low enough that ONLY the helpless would take advantage of working at my company.

Towndawg, this is the one of the few areas that Bush and I agree on, but I liked Kerry's response as well. Migrant worker's amnesty is going to be a necessity in the future. The border can't be controlled tight enough to prevent motivated people from coming in, IMO.

You are prolly right Phraedrus.. I unfortunately was taking a wiZz.. right when that Q got asked, so I will have to go back and read the transcript, but it struck me as a really gutsy approach.

It's an issue that I've had to look at pretty hard. Dunadan pinged me on it pretty good early on, but I can't see a plausible way of sealing the border, so that means we'll either have to learn to deal with illegal immigrants or make an easier method of immigration for work.

One of the ways our boarder coulkd be safer right now, is allow the boarder cops to get outta thier cars and arrest some of them. Instead, it is policy that they remain in the car. I the interview on Fox, so it must be true, right? ;)

Okay, I've got something to say again.

Most groups of people in this country have decided which way they'll go. Two that have been swinging lately are women and Catholics.

Kerry did a great job last night appealing to both.

I especially loved his "it takes more than faith, we need action" quotes because Kerry was essentially saying "Vote for me all you Catholics. I'm not Protestant." It just made me laugh.

Darn it. I couldn't go more than 15 hours without responding on one of these crazy threads.

I disagree, reformed lurker, I think Bush appealed much more to those of faith last night than Kerry... both on substance and on emotion. Abortion is divided so both of them solidified people on either side of the issue. As for me, when I hear of Bush speaking we should welcome and encourage "life", I get emotional, but it's an emotional topic for me.

this country needs to stop anyone from coming into this country ilegally. I have argued that point for yrs on here.

IMO opinion when the US gets hit again by terrorist it will be the small towns that get it this time. They (terrorist) will some how vunerable we really are at our borders.

Like Savage says "Borders, Language and Culture" we have to control it. BTW that is the only thing I agree with him on. I do miss listening to his show.

THE STATE OF TEXAS KILLS, BY CAPITAL PUNISHMENT, MORE PEOPLE THAN ANY OTHER ON AN ANNUAL BASIS.

Bush put to death more than 100 people during his term of office.

Culture of life MY A$$.

This is a man who invaded Iraq for what has turned out to be totally bogus and fictious reasons. he and the security and intelligence staff LIED to the people of the united state, lied to the world and THOUSANDS of innocent Iraqi citizens have died as a result.

Culture of life MY A$$

Thousands are being killed in the Sudan. A dusty forgotten wasteland in Africa. The country has no oil. Bush, Cheney and their friends from Halliburtonand the other oil industry companys have no interest there so Bush isn't doing #&%!$. He is letting emaciated, starving displaced villagers be murdered in starved to death in what the world agrees is genocide. Without doing anything constructive.

Cultural of life MY A$$.

lee... if you want a culture of "life" you must destroy those who are "guilty" of taking away life. I see you are quick to defend mass murders for life, but not a word for innocent, precious unborn babies yet to have the right to take their very first breath. Odd.

lee, care to print the list of dead people these murderers killed? It would be much much longer, and even longer yet without the deterrent of losing your right to life if you take another. STICK UP FOR THE RIGHT TO LIFE OF MURDERERS, but not list the victims of whom they killed, nor give a shred of support for the right to life of the innocent yet-to-be-born.

"Those of faith" are not monolithic. I go to church every Sunday. I pray. I chose my career because I can do some good. I believe in Jesus Christ. My dad is an ordained member of the Catholic clergy and the church has been one of my missions in life. I've helped him write homilies. I've sung at many funeral masses.

I also believe that gays shouldn't be discriminated against and that abortion will end because of societal factors and not at the end of a policeman's gun. I believe that war is an option of last resort. And I feel that there are more important things in life than money and maintaining current US consumption patterns.

Christ came on this earth for the powerless.

George Bush has never, does not and will never speak for me and my faith. John Kerry does. This is why I will vote for him.

Buck
To clarify. I am in favor of capital punishment. I would like to aggressively use DNA testing to rule out any mistakes, and put folks to death ASAP after their crime.

I am digusted with the length of time, energy and money put into endless appeals for someone who commits crimes that ut him or her on death row.

I say kill quick and be done with it.

Seriously. That's my position.

I am also in favor of abortion. I think abortion should be safe, easily available and ferderal dollars should be used to see that it is so.

I think abortion clinic protesters should be tasered on sight.

Your bush on the other hand, talks of a "culture of life" while putting 152 people to death.

That is grossly inconsistent.

He wages a pre-emptive war that results in the deaths of thousands of non-combatant lives, and thousands more combatant lives .. .

That is grossly inconsistent.

He supports a culture of life, yet does nothing meaningful to assist in the Sudan where thousands have been murdered.

That is grossly inconsistent.

Do NOT be as stupid as to argue that KILLING folks promotes a culture of life. (the death penalty thing in your posts.).

How's this . . .

ABORTING POOR BABIES promotes a culture of life, because after a poor unwed mother has one or two or three children, aborting the rest is to their benefit. They will have more to eat, more attention, a better shot a life because they aren't having to compete with their aborted brothers and sisters.

Killing those unwanted babies promotes a culture of life no less so than the stupid argument that killing people with electircity does.

I have some small margin of respect for nuns. They show up at clinics to protest abortions, but they also show up at the death house to protest executions, and they show up at anit-war rallies to protest Iraq. That is promoting a culture of life.

Your president is a twisted, inconsistent, pandering a$$wipe.

Buck, it's a known fact that there have been numerous cases of DNA evidence proving that certain of those criminals you speak of may not have done the crime, but sure did the time. This is not fiction. So, before you use that argument, be careful and be hungry. You may just have to eat your words...

“Hey Buck, do you support killing doctors who perform abortions?”

Hey Phaed, we've been over this before, no, I don't support killing abortion doctors, I support making abortion illegal in the first place through the legal processes we have in this land setup to do so.

Treebeard, 100% of the DNA samples show that dead unborn babies were completely innocent.

Yet you support the death penalty. Consistent? I would think not.

The core mystery of our Christian faith is the idea that Jesus could be executed unfairly by society. And God could forgive.

Is there no forgiveness and compassion in today's conservative Christians?

A blastocyst is as much a human as a pile of wood is a house. Go crawl back in your woodpile, Buck.

reformed lurker, that's fine you feel that way, but "officially" you are going against the Catholic Church. The official stances of the Catholic Church are ADAMANTLY pro-life, ADAMANTLY against stem-cell research from unborn babies, and ADAMANTLY against gay marriage. If you feel these are all okay and stuff, that's your choosing against the 'official' teachings of the Catholic Church, which is fine with me. I'm a Protestant so we don't have "official" people who represent Protestantism.
