Full lunar eclipse 10/27View Messages“A full lunar eclipse will occur on October 27th, starting at 9:14 pm Eastern (totality starts 10:23 pm). It will be visible in all time zones in North America except for the beginning for the Pacific. Easy time, fully visible, now just pray for clear skies! http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2004/13oct_lunareclipse.htm?list1059292” 7:06:42 AM 10/13/04 “Thanks for the heads up!” 7:20:52 AM 10/13/04 “I saw last year's (last Nov, I believe) from the Manistee River Trail. Very very cool!” 7:28:15 AM 10/13/04 “Last years' was incredible, Thanks for the alert, the notification is in very tiny print on my calender” 7:32:47 AM 10/13/04 “I was on a section of the AT in MD for the last one. Unfortunately very cloudy that night so I only saw glimpses of it, but even those glimpses were great. I mean, how much better can it get than being out in the woods watching a celestial event?” 7:51:01 AM 10/13/04 “More info. Looks like the next really great eclipse (easy to see, etc) is in 2008. http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/LEmono/TLE2004Oct28/TLE2004Oct28.html” 9:17:28 AM 10/13/04 “Yeah, I remember last year's - I was attempting to hike into a site by moonlight...” 12:27:20 PM 10/13/04 “bump” 7:10:44 AM 10/26/04 “uh oh. So is that a good or bad omen if it falls on your last b-day before 50?” 7:17:46 AM 10/26/04 “I read it's called a blood moon, because the moon should turn that color. Going to happen around 9 PM. Too bad this couldn't happen on Halloween!” 7:42:37 AM 10/26/04 “It will start at 9:14 Eastern. Details here: http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2004/13oct_lunareclipse.htm?list1059292 Scroll down half-way for the full time zone chart.” 8:15:34 AM 10/26/04 “[click image above] from the S&T article.... " What's more, in a conjunction of events never before seen in history, this eclipse happens during Game 4 of the World Series. The World Series Lunar Eclipse should be visible to fans with good sight lines from Busch Memorial Stadium in St. Louis, and we can hope that TV crews periodically aim up to show the progress of the event. Millions of watchers could be inspired to duck outside for a look between innings. (P.S.: Go Sox!)"” 1:44:33 PM 10/26/04 “Cool, I hope they do show that on TV. I'll be outside of course, but the exposure might be good for the general populace. Maybe inspire some young kid to take up a career?” 1:55:47 PM 10/26/04 “What's the Danjon Number, Kenneth?” 2:04:32 PM 10/26/04 “We are supposed to have scattered clouds in Eastern Arkansas. Last night would have been a great night for the eclipse as the clouds didn't roll in until around 11 or so. Hopefully, tonight will be clear.” 6:10:18 AM 10/27/04 “It's predicted to be clear in the Northeast tonight. This should be spectacular. I was out last night looking at the nearly full moon. There are definite benefits to living in an area with virtually zero light pollution.” 7:34:26 AM 10/27/04 “It's so flat here, we not only get the light pollution from Memphis (downtown is 8 miles) but also from Jonesboro (about 40 miles). You don't notice it too much until you start stargazing and realize that you can't see nearly as much as you do somewhere more remote.” 7:37:12 AM 10/27/04 “The nearest "city" is about 20 miles from us. I think there is one street light about a mile and a half from us, but we're seperated by trees and the terrain. The only light pollution I'll get tonight will be if the wife turns on the outside lights.” 7:40:56 AM 10/27/04 “Supposed to overcast here. DRAT!” 8:48:42 AM 10/27/04 “you know what sucks, ski - is when you live in a town that has no streetlights, and some skeerdy cat from away moves in right next door to you who has some silly fear of the dark or trees or something - and buys their own stinking streetlight, which is on every GD night, all night.” 9:08:29 AM 10/27/04 “We don't have street lights for several miiles. I'm going to set up my new tripod for the first time and see if I can get some good photos. Happy birthday, Pathman! It's a good omen.” 9:46:42 AM 10/27/04 Mniotilta varia “"The Danjon Scale of lunar eclipse brightness is a five-point scale useful for measuring the appearance and luminosity of the Moon during a lunar eclipse. It was proposed by André-Louis Danjon when he was measuring the Earthshine on the Moon." http://www.wordiq.com/definition/Danjon_Scale "Observers are encouraged to estimate the Danjon value at mid-totality (see section: Danjon Scale of Lunar Eclipse Brightness)." http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/OH/OH2004.html Danjon Scale of Lunar Eclipse Brightness http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/OH/Danjon.html” 10:50:21 AM 10/27/04 “I saw it mentioned somewhere that this will be the last eclipse for about 2 1/2 years. Catch it tonight or be square.” 11:06:52 AM 10/27/04 “Yup, twigeater, that certainly would suck!” 12:24:02 PM 10/27/04 “wanted to bring this to everyones attention again!!!!!” 5:50:51 PM 10/27/04 “it's crystal clear, here in north georgia! heck, i could see it starting in the parking lot of the restaurant that i just got back from.” 8:54:25 PM 10/27/04 “beautiful clear night in S. FL. Great looking moon, slowly disappearing” 9:06:14 PM 10/27/04 “Contrary to predictions, the sky is clear here. And it is beautiful to behold!!!!” 10:02:29 PM 10/27/04 “nice viewing here!” 10:06:40 PM 10/27/04 “wicked looking aint it!” 10:09:00 PM 10/27/04 “Sweet! I tried taking Laurel outside to show her but she just wanted to run up and down the road. Two year olds. go figure! She usually loves the moon.” 10:11:34 PM 10/27/04 “wicked! LOL...” 10:15:59 PM 10/27/04 about 10 min. ago “ ![]() last edited: 10/27/04 10:17:49 PM” 10:17:17 PM 10/27/04 “Yeah, the weather guessers were wrong again. Got to see the total eclipse!!!!!!” 11:14:23 PM 10/27/04 “Did my bike ride under it. Nice night!” 11:23:07 PM 10/27/04 Got this one ... “Before the clouds covered it up :( ”11:36:22 PM 10/27/04 “Got a good view of it here!” 11:53:00 PM 10/27/04 “It was beautiful tonight. And it probably set in play the mysterious forces that allowed the Sox to win a World Series.” 12:38:21 AM 10/28/04 “Zombie and Wind Walker, awesome photos. And so fast, although I see Zombie got a head start beibg in NY.” 12:48:26 AM 10/28/04 bella luna~~~~~ “a beauty of a clear night, it is overhead now and back to full....I thought it was much better than last year....maybe because this year i just experienced it and did not try to get photos...too lazy..heh...just layed back in bed and watched most of the eclipsing part right thru the skylites which now have a clear sky view thanks to Frances ...then i took the dog out for a walk in the woods while the moonglow slowly intensified again..... what a happenin' solar system ~~~~~~~~~jai” 12:56:11 AM 10/28/04 “I saw it tonight...man, was it beautiful...as Tango said, too bad it didn't happen on Halloween night. There's Linus' Pumpkin spirit. :o) On the late news, they had a clip of a jetliner in Vancouver, B.C. flying across the orange moon...cooool.” 2:43:14 AM 10/28/04 “I'm glad somebody got good photos. Mine blew.” 5:28:10 AM 10/28/04 “Light cloud cover last night, but I got to see most of it.” 6:07:53 AM 10/28/04 “Wind Walkers photo reminds me that I need to get that telephoto lens attachment for my camera.” 7:24:25 AM 10/28/04 “While I was taking the photos I saw a few shooting stars as well (no photos) and off in the distance there were coyotes howling. Great night to be outside.” 7:26:05 AM 10/28/04 “so last night we took twignut to the hospital (second time in two days) because she had stepped on a rusty nail. so while I was in the ER, tree was outside the hospital taking pics of the moon. nice daddy right LOLOL but he got pics that blew me away. if he had not done that I would have missed it. very very cool. i hope he uploads the pics tonight!” 8:07:36 AM 10/28/04 “went running around 9:15. saw the moon, and earth shadow, but no blood moon. :( Clouds pretty much covered it after 9:15.” 8:27:11 AM 10/28/04 “Nice pics, folks! This is the best I could do :-( We had the telescope out in the back yard - it was awesome!!!” 8:50:14 AM 10/28/04 “dang, and I thought no one would notice my bare ass. how embarrassing!” 11:06:39 AM 10/28/04
