A full lunar eclipse will occur on October 27th, starting at 9:14 pm Eastern (totality starts 10:23 pm). It will be visible in all time zones in North America except for the beginning for the Pacific.

Easy time, fully visible, now just pray for clear skies!

I was on a section of the AT in MD for the last one. Unfortunately very cloudy that night so I only saw glimpses of it, but even those glimpses were great. I mean, how much better can it get than being out in the woods watching a celestial event?

More info. Looks like the next really great eclipse (easy to see, etc) is in 2008.

uh oh. So is that a good or bad omen if it falls on your last b-day before 50?

I read it's called a blood moon, because the moon should turn that color. Going to happen around 9 PM. Too bad this couldn't happen on Halloween!

from the S&T article....

" What's more, in a conjunction of events never before seen in history, this eclipse happens during Game 4 of the World Series. The World Series Lunar Eclipse should be visible to fans with good sight lines from Busch Memorial Stadium in St. Louis, and we can hope that TV crews periodically aim up to show the progress of the event. Millions of watchers could be inspired to duck outside for a look between innings. (P.S.: Go Sox!)"

Cool, I hope they do show that on TV. I'll be outside of course, but the exposure might be good for the general populace. Maybe inspire some young kid to take up a career?

We are supposed to have scattered clouds in Eastern Arkansas. Last night would have been a great night for the eclipse as the clouds didn't roll in until around 11 or so. Hopefully, tonight will be clear.

It's predicted to be clear in the Northeast tonight. This should be spectacular. I was out last night looking at the nearly full moon. There are definite benefits to living in an area with virtually zero light pollution.

It's so flat here, we not only get the light pollution from Memphis (downtown is 8 miles) but also from Jonesboro (about 40 miles).

You don't notice it too much until you start stargazing and realize that you can't see nearly as much as you do somewhere more remote.

The nearest "city" is about 20 miles from us. I think there is one street light about a mile and a half from us, but we're seperated by trees and the terrain. The only light pollution I'll get tonight will be if the wife turns on the outside lights.

you know what sucks, ski - is when you live in a town that has no streetlights, and some skeerdy cat from away moves in right next door to you who has some silly fear of the dark or trees or something - and buys their own stinking streetlight, which is on every GD night, all night.

We don't have street lights for several miiles. I'm going to set up my new tripod for the first time and see if I can get some good photos.

Happy birthday, Pathman! It's a good omen.

"The Danjon Scale of lunar eclipse brightness is a five-point scale useful for measuring the appearance and luminosity of the Moon during a lunar eclipse. It was proposed by André-Louis Danjon when he was measuring the Earthshine on the Moon."

"Observers are encouraged to estimate the Danjon value at mid-totality (see section: Danjon Scale of Lunar Eclipse Brightness)."

a beauty of a clear night, it is overhead now and back to full....I thought it was much better than last year....maybe because this year i just experienced it and did not try to get photos...too lazy..heh...just layed back in bed and watched most of the eclipsing part right thru the skylites which now have a clear sky view thanks to Frances ...then i took the dog out for a walk in the woods while the moonglow slowly intensified again.....

what a happenin' solar system ~~~~~~~~~jai

I saw it tonight...man, was it beautiful...as Tango said, too bad it didn't happen on Halloween night. There's Linus' Pumpkin spirit. :o)

On the late news, they had a clip of a jetliner in Vancouver, B.C. flying across the orange moon...cooool.
