Nigal's going on this trip right?

Huh? No.
Nigal

Come on Nigal. It will be fun. Think back to 1999 and the first ever Llama-Rama. Hell you can get an airplane ticket for $199. Don't be a wimp. Get out of Ohio this summer. Remember those burritos at La Casita that were as big around as your calf?

Hey Wheezers and Geezers,
I have another idea. Let's all chip in 5 bucks apiece and help Nigal with a plane ticket. Wouldn't it be fun to have him back in California again? He's a big ole jolly fellow.
solitary hiker

I'd send $5 to get him there!

SH, you gonna bail out so he can go since the trip is full ;)
Ewker

Nope I'm not bailing. And besides it's not like we have exclusive rights to the Sierra. If there are open slots with the US Forestry Service anyone can get a permit just by FAXing in the form.
solitary hiker

I send $5 if Nigal really wants to go.
Gemini

We got $15 so far. Nigal are you checking out ticket prices from Ohio yet?

Whoot!....I have a reservation #
As of today the exit quota for the 23rd is booked solid. I picked off the remaing ones for the 22nd and there are only two left for the 24th....but they will borrow from the 25th because it still has 15 available.

This is going to ROCK!

Nigal,
Flip emailed me that he and his son are going in on Friday July 15th with Mel and the llamas. They are going in and out via Kearsarge Pass but will be in the Wrights Basin for a day or so. We'll probably see them. I think he has some extra room on his permit.

I have my permit reserved for the weekend of the 16th to go over Kearsarge Pass and do University Peak. I hope there's room for me at the TT camping spot at Kearsarge Lakes.

There's room on my permit for Nigal. I don't know how much room there will be left on the llamas though. They will be packed down with all the crampons, ice axes, ropes, snow equipment, we'll be needing.

I'll be relieved when we all have permits! How long does it take to hear by mail?

I hear what you're saying flip. I want to see what Shepherds looks like when we get ready to go home and that's the only way out.
We need someone to do a recon mission up to Anvil Camp. It's only 9.5 miles up there to check and it sure would be reassuring to the ne'r-do-..... I mean the good folks in 1s and 2s groups (Geezers). Anyone wanna volunteer?

Wingding0
You seem to know these things. Can you rent crampons and an ice axe at one of the SoCal or Lone Pine ski shops?
solitary hiker

And Wingding0,
If there's not room we'll make room. Some may be camping at the TH parking lot but I'm hoping to hike up to one of the lakes just below Kearsarge Pass and camp.

Phil: You can give the Ranger Station a call to see if they reserved your permit and get a confirmation number. I think it takes about a week to get the reservation in the mail.

Peppergod... You had to ask which bathroom wall? Does that mean I missed ONE?

Phil.. I'm going to call the ranger station tomorrow to see if they can confirm my permit. Makes me nervous to wait...

Got my permit reservation in the mail today!!!! I am optimistic that everyone else will too after what happened to WindWalker! (That is, if you they could not honor your permit application dates they gave a courtesy call).

This trip is going to rock!

ladyhiker got her permit also!!! I called WLD and he hasn't gotten his yet.

Those are the Whitney ones, so I was most concerned about those.

I appreciate all you guys doing this for us out of towners. I had no clue you had to apply for hiking permits 6 months out.

what happens to folks who come out to bp and don't know this. Are they turned away?
Ewker

There are same-day permits available also. It's just preferrable to know ahead and not spend the night outside a permit office waiting to be first in line .

Gemini - I will be happy when WLD reports he has the last permit. It was the "biggie" as far as I am concerned. However, if it had been denied, he should have gotten a courtesy call like WindWalker did.

Ewker - It is quite a surprise to many people that we have to apply 6 months in advance for some of these trips in the wilderness. The Forest Service and National Park Service really do take the wilderness seriously...which I am happy about (I am a volunteer ranger in the San Gorgonio Wilderness in So. Cal). So far everyone who has come out here for a Sierra Trip has gone home satisfied. I get a lot of pleasure being with a Sierra Newbie as they enjoy the wilderness for the first time. I think I speak for others as well. I remember watching trekkngirl as she sat speechless at Hamilton Lake watching the waterfalls flowing into it.

This trip is going to rock!

Hey Navi! If you bring the video camera and hand it off to me at the parting, I will carry it up and out from there. Yours (camera) is so much smaller than mine, so I don't think I will be bringing mine this trip.

As the producer, I feel Mt. Whitney will have a much stronger impact than Shepherd Pass. Don't you agree, Ms director?
