“robritchey - Permits for going up the Whitney Portal trail are by lottery and that does start in February, I believe. They will get something like 6000 requests for 4000 available permits.

However, we are going OUT via Whitney Portala and were requesting a "Whitney Zone" stamp on our wilderness permits for other trail heads. Those reservations are 6 months in advance. The quota for Whitney Zone stamps is quite small. If you enter via one of the national parks on the other side, then they story is even different.”
