I think its popular because everyone wants to get to Williamson before the Bighorn closure. I don't know if the next week would be better, but it can't hurt to apply for it. Kearsarge might be easier to get with a bigger group, maybe??? Apply for both and see what happens. Have alternate plans, meeting places, etc. in case you can't get permits for the whole group. last edited: 10/21/04 3:31:39 AM” 3:29:30 AM 10/21/04 “I agree with SN - I think the demad will stay high until the 15th of July when they close off the Big Horn Sheep area. Forester Pass is high, but so is Whitney. You might enjoy the trip better in August - easier travel and less bugs.” 8:06:41 AM 10/21/04 “My favorite months in the Sierra are August and September.” 1:40:36 PM 10/21/04 “10 days ago I sent an email to the trip attendies asked what the impact would be if we made the trip later in July (or possibly early August). I know it is a real can of worms suggesting date changes after a trip is posted, but it looks like we could have trouble getting permits for Shepherd Pass anytime before July 15. Besides, the weather becomes more favorable later in July anyway. However, I only got 5 responses: Sirpete - I would be better off if it were to go into August. Ewker - I did have a possible trip in Aug but not sure how that is going to pan out.At this point change it to what you think is best. StoveStomper - Later in July would be fine with me Hodgeman - I will do my best to go with whatever the final pick is. I think the best week for me to get away from this end is July 10-16, which lets me dodge the Canada Day / July 4 weekend. Hikin’ Mike - Any date works for me, providing I can walk by then It looks like moving it two weeks would not hurt anyone so far and maybe jvz could go. But a lot of people not heard from yet. Please email me with your situation if we were to move it to July 16 or July 23. Thanks! Phil rosenkrantz@csupomona.edu (I will send this out via trip report email also)” 8:42:50 PM 10/31/04 “I don't know Phil it's pretty short notice...LOL! Works for me!” 9:30:12 PM 10/31/04 “Phil, I never got your e-mail. Regarding your question, I like the 4th of July so I don't have to take another vacation day. That being said, I can do later in July or Aug. I just need to know so I can get plane tickets! 8^D” 12:10:29 AM 11/01/04 “Navi - don't you mean the helicopter tickets (to take you over Shepherd's Pass)? I guess I haven't signed up yet so I don't know if my voice counts, but I would guess that later would make the snow situation much better. But who knows? maybe we have already had all the snow we are going to!” 12:41:46 AM 11/01/04 “A change to anytime other than the 4th works for me and makes me a solid yes. Thanks for going to all the trouble.” 2:52:45 AM 11/01/04 “at this point, i am good with anytime you decide that will accomodate all..” 6:04:42 AM 11/01/04 “Thanks Phil - My best week is definitely the 10-16 week. Might be able to swing the 17-23 week, but that's getting kind of close to an early August trip that I have planned. 24-30 week would be a no-go for me” 8:57:04 AM 11/01/04 “Phil, if the dates move to later, Jerry and I would most likely come. We could come in a day early to ease the permit issue with so many people signed up.” 9:31:53 AM 11/01/04 “I want to go whenever om & trekkngirl go! ;-) That's my only requirement! LOL” 9:41:56 AM 11/01/04 “Thanks everyone for the feedback. Apparently email sent to the "group" uses the email addresses Matt has on file. Some of those are obsolete. July 16 is looking like the best alternative. I think those extra two weeks would make a big difference on several fronts. I still haven't heard back from Big Poppa, Shawn, trekkngirl, Solitary Hiker, tekdude, and some of the "maybes". I will dig out their latest email addresses and contact them. Thanks, everyone for your patience!!” 10:00:34 AM 11/01/04 “trekkngirl is without email these days. She only TTs at work and email is blocked I think.” 10:17:48 AM 11/01/04 “Phil, disregard my email to you from last night. I was looking at the right dates but the wrong month. I will have to rethink those dates now. You do whatever is best for everyone else.” 10:30:32 AM 11/01/04 “No problem with either date.” 10:35:17 AM 11/01/04 “I'm in for any week except the week of Aug. 13 (sons birthday). With this much time to plan, just about any date will be fine. July 16 or 23...awesome. I feel like a kid on a long trip...are we there yet?...are we there yet?...are we there yet? Looking forward to crossing paths with TT friends again. Ten Bears PS I did get your e-mail. Sorry for the delay. :) last edited: 11/01/04 11:22:19 AM” 11:20:59 AM 11/01/04 Phil “Sorry I didn't answer. I'm terrible about checking my email. Late July or anytime in August works much better for me. Easier to get plane tickets.” 11:48:54 AM 11/01/04 Regarding the possible date change “Thanks everyone. Five remaining "Yes" people to hear from (BigPoppa, wanderer, shawn, tekdude, trekkngirl). I just sent them an email using the latest email addresses I could find. Doing my best not to slight anyone on this.” 8:15:48 PM 11/01/04 “I'm waiting to see whatever works for everyone else. I'll plan on coming whenever... Hodge.. Hope this works for you... I don't think I remember how to drive by myself to the Sierras...” 8:39:14 PM 11/01/04 Roger Dodger “Hi Phil, Got your email. Thanks for putting this together. What a diverse group of folks set for this outing. A Trail Talk East-meets-West sort of deal. I'll put those dates on the calendar and plan accordingly. And if there's another change, I'm flexible with the dates this far out.” 9:38:42 PM 11/01/04 “tekdude - Thanks! Heard from Shawn also. Ladyhiker - Glad you are planning on going! Someone named "Shy" is on the "maybe" list. Haven't seen any posts from him/her anywhere. Anyone have any contact info?” 9:53:33 PM 11/01/04 “Phil, you are organizer extraordinaire!” 11:24:42 PM 11/01/04 “beautiful ~~~” 5:58:55 AM 11/02/04 “East-meets-West sort of deal..... tekdude 9:38:42 PM More like South or South East-meets-West. ;-)” 6:00:36 AM 11/02/04 “Phil, I haven't made the commitment yet, but the dates would be fine with me, as I'm quite flexible - mostly.” 8:35:35 AM 11/02/04 “Are you kidding Phil ???..I'll go whenever it is..lol” 11:50:23 AM 11/02/04 “I just saw this trip. Airfare into Vegas about $215, not bad. I am down as a maybe. We are set to welcome our first child into this crazy world in March. I don't know if I can/wanna be away from the little one that long.” 12:09:31 PM 11/02/04 “Flying into Vegas is all fine and good if you want to go to Vegas. If you want a free ride (well, you would probably need to pitch in a few bucks for gas) to the trailhead you might try Sacramento or something in the LA/Orange County area.” 8:12:27 PM 11/02/04 “OK. I am still waiting to hear from wanderer. Remarkably, while there were a few potential hardships, the date change did not outright exclude anyone. Now, once we make the date change, no fair for wingding or snow nymph to find something wrong!!!!” 8:13:15 PM 11/02/04 “a lot less bugs in august. try to get a really early start up to Anvil Camp from the trailhead on the first day - it can be very hot. I'm going to still try to hook up with the group to do Whitney.” 11:34:18 PM 11/02/04 “are you moving the trip to later in July or August? when you pick the dates, i'll try to get a permit that hooks me up with the group prior to the Whitney climb.” 11:40:10 PM 11/02/04 “wingding - We are looking at starting the hike the weekend of July 16-17-18...two weeks later than our original plan to get past July 15 and the sheep issue. If we make it later in July we start losing people.” 1:18:55 AM 11/03/04 “thanks for the info phil” 11:53:37 AM 11/03/04 “I will put it on my list of things to do this summer. I will ask the wife and see how it flys. Thanks phil.” 1:24:59 PM 11/03/04 “Flying into Vegas is all fine and good if you want to go to Vegas. If you want a free ride (well, you would probably need to pitch in a few bucks for gas) to the trailhead you might try Sacramento or something in the LA/Orange County area.” pepperDog 8:12:27 PM 11/02/04 ignore this user I did a search into Vegas because it usually is the cheapest flight from Chicago. I was going to rent a car and return it nearby. That will probably be too hard though.” 1:28:36 PM 11/03/04 “ontario or lax might be cheap flights too.” 1:30:11 PM 11/03/04 Wounded Knee “There's usually plenty of cars from the Sacramento area as Peppergod said.8) Here we go again into the Sierra. Can't frigging wait. This is gonna ROCK.” 2:23:58 PM 11/03/04 “We shall see” 2:25:38 PM 11/03/04 “Phil, when you get a chance, no hurry, could you update the trips page with the correct dates. I am going to see if the new dates will work with what I want to do.” 2:26:59 PM 11/03/04 “Does anyone know what to do about a lost password? I want to sign Landscaper up for this trip (realizing we may push the number over the limit and have to go in a day early) but his password is lost. Thanks!” 7:15:41 PM 11/03/04 “OK. I DID IT. I revised the start dates of the Sierra Rendezvous 2005 trip from the July 2-3 weekend to the July 16-17 weekend. I heard from everyone except wanderer, so I hope he is not messed up by the date change. Thanks everyone for your patience. I think there will have to be a limit on the group size pretty soon.” 10:32:15 PM 11/03/04 “Please, please, please count me as two while I figure out how the heck to add Jerry/Landscaper..................... We'll bring a pound of chocolate-covered espresso beans. Promise.” 12:23:58 AM 11/04/04 “wannabp - OK! Glad you are coming!” 2:23:42 AM 11/04/04 “Finally got Landscaper signed up. He doesn't even know, but when I mentioned the Glacier trip, he said he'd prefer the Sierras since it's closer. So that's a 'yes, I can take time off work,' isn't it?” 9:53:47 AM 11/04/04 “Myself and The Baron Hassenfeffer are a "go". We've been talking about doing something in the Sierra's summer 05 and this sounds like a blast!” 10:20:02 AM 11/04/04 “I'm OK with thise dates too, my home email is a little screwed up this week, but I did get your messages, just can't reply! Thanks for taking care of this for us Phil - you da' man!” 10:44:54 AM 11/04/04 “wanderer - good to hear from you. Freedom - looking forward to meeting the Baron!!! Should be a cool trip!” 12:34:56 PM 11/04/04 “Alright !! Freedom and the Baron are in !! Sounds like another party in Sacramento comin' Sorry to say that I am now 'maybe' for this trip. Got fingers crossed to work the schedule out” 3:42:48 PM 11/04/04 Right On With The Right On “Glad to see the trip all coming together and also glad it is later (even if only by 2 weeks). We have record snow for this early in the season so one never knows. I want to spend more nights than the trip is scheduled for so I'll see you all there. I'll have the kids with me. We will spend 2 nights @ WLB and 2 nights at Wallace Lake then back down Shepards Pass. Too much flyfishing to be done at WLB, Verstag, and Wallace for me to climb Whitney. WingDing0 - Let me know your exact permit dates...the kids and I may be going over Shepards Pass the same day as you are.” 4:06:19 PM 11/04/04 Jump to Page << prev
