Sierra Rendezvous 2005

“I applied for different start dates (July 1-4, 2004) and all reservable permits were taken. I think its popular because everyone wants to get to Williamson before the Bighorn closure. I don't know if the next week would be better, but it can't hurt to apply for it. Kearsarge might be easier to get with a bigger group, maybe??? Apply for both and see what happens. Have alternate plans, meeting places, etc. in case you can't get permits for the whole group.

“I agree with SN - I think the demad will stay high until the 15th of July when they close off the Big Horn Sheep area.

Forester Pass is high, but so is Whitney.

You might enjoy the trip better in August - easier travel and less bugs.”

“10 days ago I sent an email to the trip attendies asked what the impact would be if we made the trip later in July (or possibly early August). I know it is a real can of worms suggesting date changes after a trip is posted, but it looks like we could have trouble getting permits for Shepherd Pass anytime before July 15. Besides, the weather becomes more favorable later in July anyway. However, I only got 5 responses:

Sirpete - I would be better off if it were to go into August.
Ewker - I did have a possible trip in Aug but not sure how that is going to pan out.At this point change it to what you think is best.
StoveStomper - Later in July would be fine with me
Hodgeman - I will do my best to go with whatever the final pick is. I think the best week for me to get away from this end is July 10-16, which lets me dodge the Canada Day / July 4 weekend.
Hikin’ Mike - Any date works for me, providing I can walk by then

It looks like moving it two weeks would not hurt anyone so far and maybe jvz could go. But a lot of people not heard from yet. Please email me with your situation if we were to move it to July 16 or July 23.

I guess I haven't signed up yet so I don't know if my voice counts, but I would guess that later would make the snow situation much better. But who knows? maybe we have already had all the snow we are going to!”

July 16 is looking like the best alternative. I think those extra two weeks would make a big difference on several fronts.

I still haven't heard back from Big Poppa, Shawn, trekkngirl, Solitary Hiker, tekdude, and some of the "maybes". I will dig out their latest email addresses and contact them.

I did a search into Vegas because it usually is the cheapest flight from Chicago. I was going to rent a car and return it nearby. That will probably be too hard though.”

“OK. I DID IT. I revised the start dates of the Sierra Rendezvous 2005 trip from the July 2-3 weekend to the July 16-17 weekend.

I heard from everyone except wanderer, so I hope he is not messed up by the date change.

“Glad to see the trip all coming together and also glad it is later (even if only by 2 weeks). We have record snow for this early in the season so one never knows.
I want to spend more nights than the trip is scheduled for so I'll see you all there. I'll have the kids with me.
We will spend 2 nights @ WLB and 2 nights at Wallace Lake then back down Shepards Pass. Too much flyfishing to be done at WLB, Verstag, and Wallace for me to climb Whitney.
