Too bad you don't have time while here. I'm sure the posse would love to take you out on some cool hikes. : ) Although I wouldn't be able to go. Still on the mend.
I'm sorry your friend is ill. : (

just curious, what types of food do yall take with on these trips. Is it your basic bping foods or do you tend to splurge a little.

also drink wise, how much do you take.

does Nav really take a pint for each nite?
Ewker

Usually half of my pack if food

You'll want to bring lots of drink, so you can share with all of your TT friends... ya that's it... LOTS !!

That's not true... Karen and Jerry lived on chocolate covered coffee beans...on the "04" trip.

And Windwalker had a REAL Diet Pepsi and an apple! And enjoyed both of those in front of me!

Wannabp - you are bringing those coffee beans again, right? (I was ready to pack some yummy chocolate covered coffee beans on the WCT until JVZ jumped in the front seat of the truck after they had sat in the sun all afternoon and made one great big chocolate covered bean with.. ahem... a big buttprint!)

Hodge - I believe you are wrong about your pack weight. It is summer after all.. I think 7/8 of your pack weight is FOOD and the liquids!

Then - There is the "Food God" offering if allowed fires on the last night (and if Navi keeps his unmentionables out of the fire... eeeuuuuuuu)

It's always JVZ's fault!
I'm sure not going to take the blame for this one!!!

The "Food Gods" will not be offended. Fires are only allowed the 2nd night. So I won't bring my unmentionables.

Ewker, don't believe everything you hear. It's more like a 1/2 pint.

LH, sure you can use a protein supplement (whey) for breakfast. Personally, I'd combine it with oatmeal. The powders come in a few different flavors (choc, van, strawberry) and I like them all. I've used a few different brands and only one tasted like vomit. Costco sells a brand called Pro-Rated and is cheap and tastes the best of all powders I've tried probably because it loaded with with fillers and sugars but what the hey. I guess you could mix it with gatorade if you had to. Just a cup of water is fine for me. It's like drinking chocolate milk.

Unfortunately, cucumber is not a flavor at this time. :-0

I'm planning on hitting the trail a couple days before the first group. Thinking of hiking in at Baxter Pass, maybe climb a peak or something, and then meeting up with y'all in Wrights Basin. BTW, how's the fishing in Wrights Basin? Phil? Of course, I'll be there for the after hike party in town.

No hog but I did buy a bicycle and this Sept. I'm riding it from Seattle to SF. Come join me on the Oregon coast for a night or two.

Sunny,85+ days here in the central valley. Drip, drip goes the Sierra snow. Snowy is still skiing tho so it won't go away too fast. Just keep our fingers crossed.

I hope you get your ULAP2 in time for the trip. It took mine about 5 weeks to get to me. I used it twice now and I think I've got the bugs worked out. Did you get your name put on it? Seems that there are about 6 or more of us that have that pack now.

Tekdude: Are the permit spaces full for Kearsarge Pass on July 16th? I have an extra space on a two-day permit for entering in on the 16th. If you want I can cancel that space, which will free up a permit for you. Just let me know if you want it and we can work it out so that you know when I cancel so you can call in.

I don't even remember doing that. This is all a hoax started by ladyhiker. But LOL anyway. Just picture me removing said chocolate covered pants and riding in my underwear. In the words of Krusty the Klown "burn that seat". Your eyes should be just about falling out by now Nav.

If you were coming back from Wrights Basin and you go over the pass between Tawny Point and the base(?) of Tyndall why couldn't you traverse right up the "backbone" of Tyndall? The slope up the backbone looks lower than the 40-45 degree angle up the north rib route shown in the Stanford TR. If I'm not mistaken the pass between Tawny and the base of Tyndall is the same one Phil used in his exit from Wrights Basin in '01 and the same one SnowDude shot the photo of the highest tornado even recorded.

I have a DeLorme California Atlas and that's where I'm getting my info. Probably need to go on-line and look at a real topo.

I went over to topozone and now I'm getting what I think is a clearer picture. If what I think is the northeast rib then it is not east of the Shepherd Pass but approximately one mile directly south of the pass and starting in the center of the shown map.

Mount Tyndall is south of Shepherd Pass. The Ridge and the Rib are the easiest routes up Tyndall. I would take the Rib over the ridge if given a choice - a nice clean route eventhough it is steeper than the ridge, but that's my opinion and might not be held by all. This year you'll probably have more snow to deal with than we did last year. I wasn't sure which route I'd take until I got up to Shepherd Pass. From Shepherd Pass, all three of us decided that the North Rib looked like a better route and we were happy we made that decision. When you get up there, you can take a look at the routes and decide if you want to give one a try.

The pictures from our trip are here:

Rockwell Pass it is, couldn't remember the name.

Looking at the map I think you're right about the north rib route. As usual, wiser heads have picked the obvious route. Your pictures were good. The one with the hail must be looking over to Diamond Mesa. And the one looking down on the Wrights Basin must be looking down at Lake Versteeg. Everything looks so austere. Damn I can't wait to get back out there. Nothing quite like looking out and being able to see forever!!!

WD0 are you going to meet up with us along the hike somewhere or are you coming to the Wheezers and Geezers Reunion at the Dow Villa? You should.

Al Queda Training Camp (Extention) busted in Lodi.
Members of the terrorist group Al Queda have been coming to Lodi for training in how to cross a surge channel.
