I made a map of our hunting spot from Google Earth and printed it out and gave it to him and showed him where to go and I went around the back side of the land to hopefully push deer into him. He was carrying my 30-06 Which he had shot exactly once. Right befor we went hunting I drew a lifesized deer on a big piece of cardboard and put in in the yard about 50 yards out and he nailed it. I said, youre ready, lets go. So anyways, its about 4:00 when we get out hunting and we split up and about 45 minutes, KABLAM! That 30-ought is a friggin cannon...30 seconds later, KABLAM! We had walkie talkies so I wanted to call him but I figured I might scare whatever he was shootin at so I just made my way toward him. Then a minute later, KABLAM! 3 shots, I called him and he said, I got it Dad, I saw it hit. So I headed all the way to him, I was only 1/4 mile away. When I got there, he was out in the field looking for blood. I said "where did it go?" He pointed into the woods and I looked and saw a doe piled up. I called him over and on the way he stumbled over a button buck and says, OMG! Turns out he shot 2 deer on his first real deer hunt ever! He felt guilty at first but I convinced him he did nothing wrong and it was all perfectly legal. He thought he was shooting at the same deer all 3 shots. Needless to say, we got a great start on filling the freezer. Sunday I took out my 12 yr old and we watched a doe, yearling and 6 point buck for about an hour before it started getting dark and we had to take a shot, about 150 yards. He missed and got off a second and BARELY missed again but that one spooked the buck and we were done. Sat is opening day and does are legal for the 1st weekend so me and my 18 yr old are going out and I like our chances. There are deer EVERYWHERE up there... The End” 8:06:41 PM 11/11/09 “Sunday morning is our opening day and a frind of mine, born and raised in Russia but as of last week a new US citizen, will be out hunting with me for his very first time.” 3:54:45 AM 11/12/09 “Strat, so wait, your son killed a doe but they are only legal starting this weekend?” 10:43:12 AM 11/12/09 “Legal for youth under 16, from the sound of it. Illegal for everyone else.” 10:57:33 AM 11/12/09 “treebait is correct-o-mundo! Adults are allowed a doe the 1st 5 days of our season. And on the special 2 day Christmas hunt.” 2:34:00 PM 11/12/09 Modern Gun Opening arrives with a bang! “Ok, well actually it was 2 bangs..... Long story short, I bagged a nice medium sized 9 point buck and his female companion today at 10:00 AM...long day and I can honestly say that I hope that I dont gut/clean/butcher another deer till next year” 8:22:07 PM 11/14/09 8:59:23 PM 11/14/09 “My 18 yr old went out this morning and got a little button buck. The freezer will be full for a while.” 3:12:56 PM 11/15/09 “ "One shot." ” 3:32:07 PM 11/15/09 “My first time hunting comrade bagged a small doe during yesterday mornings opener and I got a spike buck in the afternoon. Busy day!” 3:52:50 AM 11/16/09 “Season is over here. Black powder starts Wednesday, but I am back to goose and deer hunting. Out of 12, no-one saw a buck. Worst season ever.” 12:43:30 PM 11/16/09 “Season is over? The rut just started.” 12:44:53 PM 11/16/09 “The hills are alive with the sound of shotguns.” 1:06:12 PM 11/16/09 Congrats non-com! “I used my new 30-06....saweet gun! We still have 3 weeks left in our season. The deer are thick so they made it extra long.” 1:17:19 PM 11/16/09 “On the way to Superior this morning I saw a fisher cross the road in front of me. About 10 miles further north I saw a couple bald eagles sitting on roadkill and shortly thereafter a timberwolf standing by the roadside. Just outside of town was a fairly large roadkilled black bear. An eventful morning.” 1:39:19 PM 11/16/09 “Scored din for the night, did ya?” 3:33:54 PM 11/16/09 “Almost bagged an 8 point buck this morning, with my Subaru. I missed it by about 2.5 feet.” 6:00:45 AM 11/17/09 “Yeah, Zac, the weather was a bummer - shirtsleeves. Very little sign of the rut - my buddy has the best chances now.” 6:32:26 AM 11/17/09 “11.21 is the start of gun season here.” 6:53:05 AM 11/17/09 “Here too.” 8:13:23 AM 11/17/09 “I should end up with about 30+ pounds of burger/sausage (after combining with beef and pork) along with another 8-10 lb of steak! This weekend my dad and I will make venison sausage and pastrami.” 8:21:25 AM 11/19/09 “Anyone been on a nice date lately?” 8:28:26 AM 11/19/09 “LOL @ Hyway. Oh man, peeps be FUNNY today...” 8:31:38 AM 11/19/09 ““Anyone been on a nice date lately?” hyway 11:28:26 AM 11/19/09 Yeah. I took her hunting and she held my gun. I even let her hold my rifle too.” 9:22:29 AM 11/19/09 “Did you have any fun?” 9:24:39 AM 11/19/09 “I am guessing you did not mind when she wanted to squeeze off a round.” 9:25:26 AM 11/19/09 “Hopefully it wasnt a hare trigger...” 9:29:57 AM 11/19/09 I do it on purpose, ya know ... “... Tenderloin is on the menu tonight!” 11:11:36 AM 11/21/09 “Good for you. I saw one in the brush from a good distance. I shifted my course for about half an hour to get the wind in my face, hoping to run him to my brother. No luck. We broke for tea and are soon headed out to a couple of spots high above the creek. Not much shooting going on.” 12:21:36 PM 11/21/09 “Nice lumber, congrats!” 1:47:49 PM 11/21/09 “On opening morning of the gun deer hunting season in Wisconsin, my son Steve and my friend Tom from California were awake and up before their 4:30 a.m. alarms went off. Into the north woods we went and everyone was up in their tree stands an hour before sunrise. A barred owl hooted in the distance. In the clear cold air we watched the planet Mercury in the far horizon advancing upwards as the sun rose. As expected, there were fewer deer to see, and fewer shots in the woods than ever before. Tom did not see a deer all Saturday. Steve saw three at over 250 yards. On some years I would have seen a dozen deer on opening day, but by 11:00 a.m. I had not seen a single deer. Ten minutes later while eating my lunch I saw a doe prancing away into the tree line over 100 yards away to the northwest. I raised my rifle and pointed in the direction in case the doe reversed its route. But within a minute out came a deer. But this one had large antlers. It was a buck who was chasing the doe. The buck stopped behind a bush at 104 yards away, with just the top of its neck and the rump visible. Normally I would not take such a long shot through a bush, but with the reported scarcity of deer up here this year, this could be the only buck I will see this hunting season. So I squeezed off a shot, and down the buck went behind the bush. I could see a sapling swaying back and forth on the opposite side of the bush for a minute, so I knew the buck was down for good. It took me 10 minutes to walk over there and find it, a large 11 point buck, the largest deer that I have ever harvested in 30 years of hunting and the largest anyone ever harvested from our hunting camp. At the deer registration station, they estimated the age at probably three and half years but possibly 4 and half years. http://image64.webshots.com/664/1/99/20/2543199200053536869QhavKo_fs.jpg The taxidermist said the dressed weight was 184 pounds. http://image96.webshots.com/196/2/84/33/2029284330053536869UgADZf_fs.jpg” 3:09:06 AM 11/22/09 “Congrats prosecutor” 6:01:29 AM 11/22/09 “I'd consider deer hunting if the rule is you stalk, then run up on the deer with a war cry, chasing it down through the forest as it runs for it's life. That would be more sporting I think, and more fun.” 7:20:27 AM 11/22/09 “Give it a try and let us know how it works.” 7:38:54 AM 11/22/09 “Congrats to Zac and Prosticutor ! ! ! XL-just bread it with flour, salt, pepper, and Cavenders, then fry it in bacon greaSE” 8:16:02 AM 11/22/09 “cadavers?” 12:12:06 PM 11/22/09 “A ghoul, eh?” 12:21:10 PM 11/22/09 “Makin deer chili enchaladas! MmMM yeah, deer cadavers DEERLICIOUS!” 4:22:09 PM 11/22/09 “Nimblefoot take only the nuts and leaves the rest.” 4:26:46 PM 11/22/09 “Get your mind out of the gutter....I`m just say`n...” 5:01:20 PM 11/22/09 “You`re right, I should try not to think of Nimblefoot.” 5:11:19 PM 11/22/09 “"poof", you called?” 6:54:39 PM 11/22/09 Jump to Page << prev
