No not smoke in my eyes...in my hair!!!
Any secrets to getting the smell out? Ever since this weekend it still smells like smoke. YES...before anyone says wash it...I've washed it numerous times!!!

Just thought there might be some home remidies out there.

Rub a mixture of vinegar and baking soda into your hair. This mixture is effective for clothes in a washing machine (many other threads discussing it) so should work for your hair, too.

SMOKE GETS IN YOUR EYES
The Platters

They asked me how I knew
My true love was true
Ah... I of course replied
Something here inside
Cannot be denied

They said someday you'll find
All who love are blind
Ah... When your heart's on fire
You must realize
Smoke gets in your eyes

So I chaffed and then I gaily laughed
To think they could doubt my love
Yet today my love had flown away
I am without my love

Now laughing friends deride
Tears I cannot hide
So I smile and say
"When a lonely flame dies,
smoke gets in your eyes."
Smoke gets in your eyes

"Smoke, it is all smoke
in the throat of eternity. . . .
For centuries, the air was full of witches
Whistling up chimneys
on their spiky brooms
cackling or singing more sweetly than Circe,
as they flew over rooftops
blessing & cursing their
kind.

We banished & burned them
making them smoke in the throat of god;
we declared ourselves
"enlightened."
"The dark age of horrors is past,"
said my mother to me in 1952,
seven years after our people went up in smoke,
leaving a few teeth, a pile of bones.

The smoke curls and beckons.
It is blue & lavender
& green as the undersea world.
It will take us, too.

O let us not go sheepishly
clinging to our nakedness.
But let us go like witches sucked heavenward
by the Goddess' powerful breath
& whistling, whistling, whistling
on our beautiful brooms"

Erica Jong.

Oh, THAT one. We are gonna have so much fun!

my friend uses "smells-be-gone" odor neutralizer for her clothing, although I don't know how safe it would be to apply to your hair....

One of the brands of shampoos (I think it's Salon Selectives?) has a spray that you can spray in your hair to neutralize odors as well, but I'm not sure if they still have it on the market. I haven't been able to find it for a while. The only problem with that is that you will smell like the spray-- but if you wash your hair afterwards, it gets the smokey smell out.

This wouldn't be a problem if y'all used decent shampoo. Take it from an almost Metro, expensive shampoo is actually worth it's price.

Vinegar and baking soda would get the smell out but leave your hair in horrible condition. The smell may not be in your hair, but actually stuck in your sinuses. Every time I'm around smokers I'll have the smell stuck in my nose and sinuses for days. Be happy your'e smelling campfire and not something worse.

While we are on the subject...is it true that rhododendran wood is poisonous when burned? I heard that from a very credible source but just wanted to follow up on the info I received.

dunno crazygurl. However I have heard from a very credible source that the best wood for burning are those poison ivy vines :)

No No NO!
The smoke from poison ivy will coat your skin with the 'poison' part of the plant. It's like you crushed up the plants and bathed in them. Happened to my dad, he had to go under Doctor's care the iching was so bad and breaking out.

Rhododendron and dogwood can both make you sick if burned, and possibly poisoned if used for toasting marshmallows or anything else for that matter. Not "kill you" poisoned, but "wish you were dead" poisoned.

I once tried to burn kudzu off a slope. It worked great. Unfortunately, it also burned off the poison ivy that I did not realize was in the kudzu. Man, did I ever have two weeks in HELL after that!

Ever since this weekend it still smells like smoke.

You were not specific about what you were doing this weekend or what was smoking.

Weekend at the drag strip - rubber smoke -yecht.
Weekend at the crematorium - gross !!
Weekend at a rock concert - why do you want to get rid of the smell?

It also makes for a great substitute for moleskin when you are on the run...

LOL!!!!

I was only joking....

BTW-- did you hear about the idiot guy who tried to prove that a plant WASN'T poison ivy by rubbing it all over his face? His eyes swelled shut with the blisters.
