How would a person flying in get their bike there?
Take it apart and ship it?
Anyone done this?
Trying to fly with both camping equipment and biking stuff sounds pretty hard but maybe doable.

At first I was inclined to go to Jackman, but I think Bethel might be a better place to have a trip like this...

Once we get there, lots of stuff to do in the area...easier to rent yaks...

wahoo! =D

I'm interested. Havn't done a bike trip since RAGBRAI a long time ago.

Road tires or some off road?
I've got a Trek off pavement bike and my old Bianci road bike.

I guess I could always fly into Portland and buy a new road bike. Good excuse. ;-)

And Bobo, that truck of yours would come in REAL handy...LOL

Do we want to bike the whole time, or do the bike to base camp, then hike/yak/bike, bike home...

I'd say road bike for the trip to base camp, as it will all be on tarred roads.

So - there's a tenative itinerary out there...
bunny boiler

MS quit using tar on roads 30 years ago. ;-)
I remember picking up chunks of tar on the side roads and playing with it. We would find an old pot and build a fire to melt the tar chunk, and make things. Our mothers would have a fit when we came home. We always got it all over our clothing.

yeah but - do you actually call the roads "asphalt" now? Like, when giving directions, do you say "take a left when the tar ends" or do you say "when the asphalt ends?"
It just sounds so...so...uppity-like..."asphalt"
LMAO...

hey is this gonna be like the rotary thing??? LOL...

that trip itinerary sounds good to me.

Ewker

We usually say 'when the black top ends'.

I just need to get these terms straight for when I give out directions...

bunny boiler - Y'all do have TV up there in Maine? That's where us Southern types learned to speak proper English. ;-)

lol.

I prefer to call it when the road starts to get fun.

How come this is called hike Maine? Shouldn't it be called ride Maine?

TV? I use that thing to torture innocent TTers with videos about Maine and the strange creatures that inhabit it...

GreasyGrimyGopherGutsStomper

That sounds like an IceTea-ism! :p

Hike Maine, Ride Maine, Drive Maine - it's all good!

Actually...

I bought some "baggies" at EMS so you all didn't have the extreme displeasure of viewing my spandex clad ass on a bike for days on end. We'll see how they feel though, I may still torture you all 'til yer eyes bleed. Now I need to figure out the bathing suit part for the paddle day. I could wear a tent! =D
Gawd.
I'll probably do the perfect short thing that day.
