I read through the immigration threads and all I saw was myself making a strong case and Violin making a bunch of idiotic comments and trying to defend illegal immigrants. According to one of the most established members of the "mainstream media," the fact that "most reporters want John Kerry to win" could be worth 5 to 15 percentage points- or 5 to 20 million votes- on Election Day.

Much of the Kerry campaign's political calculation relies on the media reporting as fact baseless charges of voter intimidation, "privatizing social security" and "reinstating the draft," blaming President Bush for the flu vaccine shortage when Kerry opposed liability reform for vaccine manufacturers, and the demonstrably false charge that the President has banned stem cell research.

We must remain vigilant and hold the press accountable if and when the fact "most reporters want John Kerry to win" evidences itself in articles and on-air stories between now and November 2.

Call and complain, write letters to the editor, call talk radio, forward our factual e-mails to your friends and post facts on blogs. This will help make sure voters have accurate information on which to base their decision on Election Day.

“OK - now that I see that, I think that Violin's excerpt from the Democrat's hate latinos discussion should have gone on the "out of context quotes" thread. I don't think that kind of out of context quoting in threads like this is fair play.

I learn a lot from the info Violin posts here, and I think he makes TT more fun - but I'm not pleased about being misled here.

Now, I could be interested in an argument that says using a phrase like Nigal did - even by putting in in quotes and making it a "hypothetical" statement in an example - is provocative, insensitive, or mean (I'd certainly say "insensitive" - knowing that term could describe some of my posts as well). I'd even be interested in argument that said even that statement showed hidden bigotry (I wouldn't make that interpretation, myself) - but stripping the line of it's quotation marks and it's context skips all those steps and simply paints Nigal as a nasty racist. I'd be really pissed if someone did that to me, which they could if they just took the "wetback" quote from my story and attributed it to me directly.”

TEHRAN, Iran -- The head of Iran's security council said Tuesday that the re-election of President Bush was in Tehran's best interests, despite the administration's axis of evil label, accusations that Iran harbors al-Qaida terrorists and threats of sanctions over the country's nuclear ambitions.

Historically, Democrats have harmed Iran more than Republicans, said Hasan Rowhani, head of the Supreme National Security Council, Iran's top security decision-making body.

"We haven't seen anything good from Democrats," Rowhani told state-run television in remarks that, for the first time in recent decades, saw Iran openly supporting one U.S. presidential candidate over another.

Though Iran generally does not publicly wade into U.S. presidential politics, it has a history of preferring Republicans over Democrats, who tend to press human rights issues.

"We do not desire to see Democrats take over," Rowhani said when asked if Iran was supporting Democratic Sen. John Kerry against Bush.

Former Democratic New York Mayor Ed Koch advocated the re-election of current President George W. Bush in a speech at Steinhardt Hall yesterday.
Eric Rechtschaffen, president of the Penn College Republicans and a College junior, introduced Koch's speech by posing the question: Why would the College Republicans bring in a Democratic speaker? Rechtschaffen claimed that Koch "represents a unique perspective."

"I am a Democrat ... and don't agree with George W. Bush on a single domestic issue ... but I'm voting for Bush because all issues are trumped by the single issue of international terrorism," Koch said.

Labeling the current war a "war of civilizations," Koch supported Bush's aggressive policy and steadfast demeanor in dealing with the ramifications of a post-Sept. 11 world.

Americans "are in the middle of a war ... [and] John Kerry is not, on this issue, to be trusted," Koch said, highlighting the point that if Kerry were to be elected, there would be a proliferation of international terrorist activity.
