I made lizs a potstand/windscreen and of course she soon destroyed it and now wants a replacement. ;-)

Any design improvement ideas you guys have to make a potstand/windscreen 'lizsproof'?

hey stomper, you gonna send me one to test? :)

Free - Mike has one allready.

I think it may be physically impossible to make one 'Free25proof'. ;-)

yes...mike has found that out already...

but...at least I dont set the tent and forest on fire like a certain crash! Bang! I know.

See lizs, I'm starting to think about how to make a replacement for you.
Maybe in a few weeks I'll actually make one. ;-)

Have you tried milling it from a solid hunk of 4130 Cromolly?

I don't have access to a machine shop.
Hand tools only. ;-)

LMAO...oops, I can't LMAO, then I'll be assless!!!! egads!!!

So you're making a replacement for me, eh?

OK, here's a question to add to matahari's... or maybe all the stuff she's screwing up (sorry, MH, we luv ya, I mean look at these big lugs luving my windscreen-destroying ass!!)

I tried to put Stovey's quote above in italics. I highlighted ONLY his quote and his name... Well, you see what happened! not working!!!!

LOL@Stove
Hey I just made a couple of potstand/windscreens similar to the one in your link but instead of using tent pegs to support the pot I pop riveted 3 short pieces of aluminum angle(1/16" wall 1/2" x 3/4") to it for more support....didn't really add much weight and made it much sturdier. Don't know if it'll hold liz's butt but it might be worth a try...lol.

I do that type by folding 'tabs' from the flashing. No pop rivets to come out.

18 posts already and no one has asked the question: How did Lizs destroy it? I have the exact same Stovie set-up (thanks, Stovie). It has proved to be fool- and bomb-proof for the last six months.

Yeah, I'm kind of curious too as to how lizs took out such a sturdy looking set up.

Yeah I have a couple like that too, I was just playin around trying to make something a little sturdier....we use a 4 cup pot to boil water in and I've had a problem with the little tabs bending over when they got hot...besides I can't just make one like everyone else....what fun would that be? lol

Hey, I dunno! This was his test one. It flexes where the pieces overlap and come together.

Yeah, that cast iron might hold my butt. hmmm

Here's a question,

Think & I have the following stove:

http://www.rei.com/product/9610818.htm?vcat=REI_SSHP_CAMPING_TOC

We have run into problems with using a regular windscreen-- we were told that they might heat up the canister too much...

someone gave us one of those foil windscreens and we thought that we might need to elevate it up from the ground so that the cannister doesn't get too hot.... does anyone have any suggestions as to how we might do that?

What do people with the "pocket rocket" stoves do? I'm assuming you'd have the same problem as we would with the burner being above the fuel cannister....

poor, poor, multi-hued, bent-up windscreen.

:-)

For an actual idea:

It's pure luck that my cookpot and my rolled up blue foam pad are almost the same diameter. I made my windscreen permanently round and just slide it over the pad when packing up.

TDale, that's not a bad idea for those that use closed cell foam pads.

hmmmmmm...

But... I think $hit happens in between that time it comes out of the pot (or off the bedroll, as the case may be) and is used for cooking. Or, between cooking time and when it is put back in the pot. LOL!

I used my pot on gojo's stove over the weekend and -- all of a sudden looked down -- and there was that damned windscreen with yet another new, odd bend in it. LOL! I swear it's the potstand trolls after me!!!!

pink, if your name is not lizs, and you own a pocket stove, some of us have simply used foil covered cardboard to bend around the stove to block the wind :)

Hmmmm... the width is just about perfect. You can take a couple of these... cut them into 4 pieces about 3.5"-4" long and noch the ends so the interlock and form a square you could set the pot on.

We are dealing with lizs here, buddy.
I think your design might have a chance if we make it from 1/4" steel plate.
Might be a little heavy.

If she sits on it... she can just bent it back... is my reasoning. You just need a ductile material that won't fatigue and break after several repeated sittings. It's a matter of just bending it back reasonably flat.

First design consideration must be:
lizs is a goober.
She can tear up an anvil. ;-)
StoveStomper

Well the design concept is that you know she is going to tear it up... but you just have to control where/how the breaks it and design it to be repairable.
