Last Minute Catskills Trip

“Hardly a buttkicker -- we've got this one spread out nicely, and only half the trail (man, we're getting lazy in our old age...)

However, the weather forecast for Saturday is looking good, and this trail is loaded with awesome views.”

“How long is the hike on Sunday? What time could we reasonably expect to be finished?”

“Sunday's hike is 4.2 miles. Depending on how fast we go and how soon we get out, we could be done well before noon...”

“I say, whoever wants to, when we get to 214, we drop packs and hike up to Hunter and bag the peak.”

“hmmmm.... definitely something to consider, but the travel budget is a little tight right now, I'll think about it tomorrow.”

“At 4040 ft, Hunter Mtn is the second highest peak in the Catskills. It is about 3 1/2 miles and 2000 ft Gross Elevation gain one way to Hunter Mtn from Stony Clove Notch.

“Um, maybe. I don't quite remember, but the map shows that the last mile and half is a spur trail (the Hunter Mtn Trail) that goes right through the summit...”

“The trail does go right through the summit. There's a firetower and a ranger station (can't remember if it's abandoned) at the top.”
